  1. Yes. I meant .22 caliber. It's a ruger 22/45. Hadn't had a single misfeed until I switched magazines, then it was misfeeding every few rounds. The store replaced the magazine, and the problem hasn't shown up since. I wouldn't use it for self-defense unless I couldn't get to my shotgun, but my concern would be the small caliber, not a potential misfeed. I'm looking into getting my CCW and another weapon, but that'll have to wait a while.
  2. 90% of it won't make any sense, since you won't understand the vocabulary (muggle, mudblood, squib, avada kedavra, lumos, legilimens, occlumency, etc...) In the first couple of books, you learn these concepts along with Harry, and the first books are more age-appropriate for your kids.
  3. I had a misfeed problem with my .22. Turns out the mag had a weak spring. The store replaced the mag, no problems since. =)
  4. Thanks so much to everyone who's agreed to help out! I'm also interviewing some people I know outside of skydiving, but it'll probably be mostly skydivers.
  5. Hey... thanks so much to everyone who volunteered last time. I got an A on my assignment. I need ten more volunteers. This time, the subject is marriage, and to be eligible, you have to be married, have been married, or are/were living in a common-law marriage or relationship you considered to be a marriage, whether or not it was actually recognized by your state. Post here or drop me a PM if you're willing to let me pick your brain a bit. Thanks much!
  6. When I went to college, a lot of the dance majors were strippers. Most of them finished school with good grades, extra cash, and little to no student loans.
  7. I'll be taking new bear orders after I get back from Prairie. =)
  8. I wish I could save the tedious stuff until later, but all I'm doing all day (and for the past couple of weeks!) is data entry.
  9. Sleep is just a cheap caffine substitute!! LOL. Well, after four shots of espresso, my hands are a little shaky, but I'm still exhausted.
  10. I am so tired. My work demands I start at 7:30, and it's an hour and a half drive in, so I'm up at 5:00 am. Then, I've got school, and the obligations for my online class sometimes involve online discussions at certain times of day, usually 10:30 at night, until 11:30 at night (online classes aren't allowed to do anything mandatory while other classes are in session, and other classes end at 10:15). So, I've got several days a week where I'm stuck staying awake until around midnight. I've been running on 5 hours of sleep for the last three nights, and I'm so tired I'm dizzy. I'm trying really hard not to fall asleep at my desk. I've been getting up and taking walks every so often, and I've had about four shots of espresso. I'm still having trouble keeping my eyes open, and to top it off, I've got a headache, and if I take my headache medicine (midrin), I will most definitely fall asleep. So, any advice?
  11. I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about a romantic relationship as opposed to a business relationship, silly me Edit:: I guess I should've elaborated. I've heard way too many horror stories of one partner skipping town when both are on the loan and the collections agency goes after the other, cause legally, they're both responsible for the entire loan. But hey, go right ahead, I'm sure the relationship will work out just fine
  12. Business partners get together and buy things all the time. A house isn't any different. You just have to work out the details beforehand.
  13. I wouldn't have a problem implementing your ideas... I'd add a few more, though. 1. mandatory road test and vision test for everyone, every year. 2. mandatory advanced driving classes prior to getting a license in the first place. 3. involvement in an accident where you are 50% or more at fault results in a suspended license for one year, and mandatory advanced driver training.
  14. Kind of like it's logical for people to automatically question the backer of a study if it's findings run counter to their previously held beliefs? I question the background of any study, regardless of my personal beliefs.
  15. Is a reserve pilot chute that different from a main pilot chute? I've dropped bears with main pilot chutes before, and they seemed to slow down fine. Is it possible to deploy a tandem drogue with a cypres?
  16. Maybe not. I think it's logical to speculate over how many people would have abstained regardless of any particular pledge. Do either of you have any actual data?
  17. From the WTF files.... Man calls 911 to save him from police Cops had surrounded Fla. resident after they got word of a bar disturbance LARGO, Fla. - A 38-year-old man was arrested after he called 911 and told a dispatcher he was surrounded by police officers and needed help, authorities said. Police officers met Dana Farrell Shelton after being called to investigate a disturbance at a bar on Sunday but had found no problems and told him to move along. Shelton, who officers said appeared intoxicated, then called 911 to report he was "surrounded by Largo police," according to an arrest affidavit. "Our officers were standing there scratching their heads. He called, standing there in their presence," Largo Sgt. Melanie Holley said. "It's one of our 'truth is stranger than fiction' cases." Shelton was charged with misdemeanor misuse of 911. The charge carries maximum penalties of one year in jail and $1,000 in fines. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19795748/

  19. Actually, that might be the problem. Rosetta's a really good program. There was a school around here that used it as part of their ESL program, and the students scores went up pretty drastically, and they liked the program enough to bring in their parents after school to help them learn English.
  20. I'm usually pretty good about updating it. =)
  21. I keep a list titled "101 Things to do Before I Die" There's always 101 things on the list, from silly stuff like "Read War and Peace" to more complicated stuff like "Learn Spanish" and "Visit Africa". It's just something I've done since I was little, and I've kept it around because it's a reminder... Every time I think "I have to do this someday!" I add it to the list. I just removed the final item on the original list a few years ago. I learned to do a cartwheel. I'm slowly learning Spanish using Rosetta Stone. The program is awesome and well worth the money, and it's actually entertaining.
  22. Your bias is showing. The findings I posted came from a 2005 study by Bearman and Brueckner. I believe it's the same one you referenced above. How is asking the funding of a study showing a bias? Looking at the source of information is an important part of critical thinking to judge the reliability of said information. Studies funded by groups with little to nothing to gain from results either way are probably more reliable than studies funded by groups who want the studies to support their ideas. For example, a study on abstinence pledges sponsored by the Christian Coalition is probably less reliable than one sponsored by UCI, and a study on gun violence sponsored by Rosie O'Donnell is probably significantly less reliable than one sponsored by ATF. What it comes down to is does the source of money behind a study have something to gain from the study if the results turn out to favor their already formed opinion? Do they have something to lose if the study contradicts their opinion? There are easy ways to skew samples. For example, if I polled 400 people in Los Angeles as to whether they liked cello music and 90% said they did, if I wanted to inflate the perceived popularity of cello music, I wouldn't tell you that I took the survey as people were leaving a Rasputina concert.
