In Memory of Shannon (girlfalldown)
Nightingale replied to JankyBob's topic in Blue Skies - In Memory Of
I'm sure Shannon is very proud that you're following the path you planned together. -
All I'm saying is that because it was separate from the house, he may have seen it as his space rather than "their" space, and was just being stupid, not malicious. For kids, the punishment should take their intent into account. If they were doing it to be mean, they probably deserve a lot more punishment than a kid that just wasn't really thinking.

Hehe. As long as they're eating what they kill, I've got no problem with it. I'm not a fan of the "tourist" hunters who kill a beautiful buck, take the trophy head to the taxidermist, and leave the rest to rot. Most of the regular hunters I know will be eating venison for a month.

Was this his idea, or is he being forced to move out of what he considers "his space" and into his brother's room? Just thinking this might be a reason for the acting out.
-
Cool. Was he told that before or after he painted the door?
-
My brother drew all over his door when he was a pre-teen. My parents figured that it was his door, and he had to live with it until he asked for help to re-paint it. It stayed until he got embarrassed about always having to explain it to his friends, and it was a better lesson that way than if my parents had been screaming at him. All I'm saying is that 1. while it may be outside, it is the door to his room 2. there may not be any malice or mischief, just a desire for individuality that could be better channeled.
-
Yep. I was using the black targets that glow fluorescent yellow when you hit them. They had one shaped like a prairie dog. Got him right in the eye. Course, I'd never shoot at a real one. They're too darn cute.
-
So why can't he paint his own room? It's his space. He should've asked, of course... I'm just saying that his actions might not've been malicious, just a desire to decorate his space that might be able to be channeled into a more appropriate outlet.

Thanks! I am sooo glad I don't have to take the CA bar again. You were definitely right about the relief part. I think I reread the internet page about five times before I believed it, thinking "I'm on the pass list?" I called my dad, who was driving at the time (I really should've told him to pull over) and had the people in the next car looking at him really weird because he was jumping up and down and banging on the steering wheel! Then, I called my mom, who was about as enthusiastic, and then I called my grandparents, who told me that my dad had already called them! LOL.

The "Band room"? Is he in a band? If so, I kinda understand why he'd want to decorate. If it was someplace that was pretty much exclusively his, he might not have thought twice about it. But, if it was something that wasn't really treated as his, he shouldn't have been painting it, and knows it. Forbidding your kid to hang out with someone is a pretty much a guarantee that that person is now their new best friend. If your kid has been this much trouble, have you looked into counseling? There may be something going on that you don't know about.

Nice. Is there a reason for the holes drilled in the trigger? I'm guessing it's to make the trigger weigh less?

Target shooting. I have my shotgun for self-defense.

Yeah! One has carbon in it and the other absorbs light waves except for a certain bit of the spectrum. Totally different issues, DUH! ROFL!

It's a .22 that has the same grip shape as the 1911 .45. I didn't buy it because of any similarity with the .45; it just fit my hand better than the other .22s.

Politician Goes From Anti-Gun to Pro-Right-To-Carry
Nightingale replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
I think that largely, the liberals do stand for individual rights, but that the right to bear arms got lost somewhere along the way. I don't have anything to back this up, but I think the liberal/democrat anti-gun stance comes largely from the vietnam era, when people were attempting to exercise a right not to go to fight a war they didn't believe in. I think that because Vietnam was the first war that ended up on television, people were suddenly faced with the realities of violence, and it hasn't quite sunk in that getting rid of guns won't get rid of violence. -
After a two-week waiting period, and another week waiting to get a utility bill at my new address so I could "prove my residency" in CA, I finally got to pick up my new Ruger 22/45 mark III on friday. I hate California gun laws. How in the hell does requiring a utility bill possibly make it "safer" to sell me a gun? They'd already seen my drivers' license and my passport.

Politician Goes From Anti-Gun to Pro-Right-To-Carry
Nightingale replied to Kennedy's topic in Speakers Corner
I think it's unfortunate how people think they can't be "liberals" and still support the second amendment. I'm sure that he won't turn into a conservative, but will hopefully revise his anti-gun thinking now that he realizes how important personal protection is, and not only "bad people" carry. -
Yes, the organic and green issues should be separate. Organic is concerned with what chemicals you're putting in your body. Green is concerned with the impact on the environment as a whole.

Now I'm really confused. the first series of numbers is a D9, but the others don't look like chords.

The problem with a consumption tax alone is that it can encourage a black market, because the government has to make up for what it loses in income tax.
-
Yes. We just need to give them a real reason to stop (fines) and take away the reason they're doing it (cheap labor). The cheap labor will ALWAYS be there. It is standard commercial practice: If you charge $5.00, I will charge $4.99 to get the job. It is not only cheap labor, it is cheap qualified labor. As long as there are people willing to hire cheap labor (regardless of immigration status), there will be hordes of immigrants (illegal and otherwise) coming to your Country... you have a better economy! It's like drug smuggling: as long as there are consumers, drug traffickers will find a way to sell their stuff. Or what do you suggest, eradicating poverty (not going to happen) and illegal substances (slim chance) in the world? Yes, but if we abolish the economically unsound minimum wage, legal workers can be hired and taxes can be collected, rather than illegal hiring under the table .
