  1. anyone know if its possible to get a Zute Suit (or other kind) with booties, but with the student style knee/butt reinforcement? I want my own suit, but I don't want one I'm gonna rip to shreads on my first rotten landing... I have a LOT of rotten landings.
  2. BEST non fiction I've read to date: Portrait of a Killer: Jack the Ripper, Case Closed by Patricia Cornwell. She spent $2 million of her own money to solve the unsolved Jack the Ripper murders...and she did it. Fascinating read. HIGHLY recommended.
  3. hehe... my issue is that I won't just sit and take it when someone yells at me. I do my job very well, and I demand respect at the workplace, or at the very least, civility.
  4. hehe... I did. Finishing up the master's degree in education this spring, and starting work on a JD (juris doctor, law degree) in fall. I still do editing stuff, but only on my own vids, and just for fun. I got sick of getting shouted at by directors in the industry.
  5. they help you steer. not so good for Freefly, because you get air up your pants.
  6. Because I had to drive, and I had to work today. Otherwise, I'd have had many more margaritas. They were DAMN good margaritas!
  7. Well, yesterday, I jumped my own packjob. and it opened. Perfectly. Twice. Life is good. I am not afraid of packing anymore. I did two coach jumps yesterday, and was going to do a solo, but final load was full, so I'll be back on friday. My first coach jump with Kai was a little nervewracking. I was nervous about the new gear and my own packjob and did I hook this thing up and all that... While I was packing, Eddie and Doreen stopped me from killing myself at least twice... I got the D-bag and bridle tangled and had issues cocking the pilot chute. So, we get out of the plane... bumped into each other a bit on exit. First time doing a floating exit, so I was a little nervous and I think I turned out a bit too far. We got separated and then took grips, released, took grips, released, and he tracked back a bit, and I caught up and took grips again. Then at 7K, I tracked off. Did a PRCT at 6,000, and another at 5500... then I figured "well, I've already got the hackey in my hand, and I don't have anything else to do, so instead of making that a PRCT and pulling at 5, I pulled at 5500. LONG snivel, but I packed it to have a nice, easy opening, because the harness was a little big, so I didn't want to get slammed into the legstraps. Wonderful opening. No spin. Good shape and float. Did a control check with rear risers. Unstowed breaks. No problems there. Then, I tried to grab the slider to collapse it. couldn't reach. oops... I was supposed to do that BEFORE unstowing the breaks right? ok. note for next time. Did some front riser turns. Took a LOT of muscle, but I did it! YAY! Fulfilled that requirement, and the 180/90 degree turn requirement. Landed in the right spot, but painfully. Those zero porosity canopies come in a lot quicker... so I didn't get my flare completely finished. OUCH. Slammed my heels into the ground, and then landed on my face. D'oh. Next jump was another RW with Kai. Took me about half an hour to pack this time. Nobody watched me, but I did bug Doreen to check and make sure I had all my lines straight. Got on the plane. I was much more relaxed this time. Dive out exit. We're playing with fast fall/slow fall rate and taking grips. I'm turning and tracking. The dive goes well. Pull at 5K. Perfect opening again. Rear riser control check. I reach for the slider tabs and pull... it collapses but doesn't stay collapsed. I give up. More important things to worry about under canopy than fixing a stubborn slider. like steering. I unstow the toggles and do my control check. Life is good. I play with the canopy for a bit and then its time to land. I land where I'm supposed to, but again, I don't finish my flare. Ouchie...am I gonna be sore! I bounce up and collect my canopy. Disconnect everything and take it back to SquareOne, after finding out that there was no room on the remaining loads, so I couldn't solo anyway. I tell them about the slider issue. Guy behind the counter (whose name I can't remember) tells me I just didn't pull the tabs far enough. Ok. I'll fix that next time. Go write in logbook: I now have 00:10:05 freefall time! WOOT! ten minutes seems like a lot to me.... Went to the bomb shelter and had a margarita and a half with friends. Ahhhh... It was a good day.
  8. I'd try the anti fog stuff they sell at dive shops. Works great on my scuba mask. I don't put my skydive goggles on til 10K, and just hold up the corner so they don't fog... but now that you've reminded me, I'm going to go looking for the anti-fog.
  9. I don't edit skydiving videos, but I majored in film and have done some editing for television. Go with Premiere. I really love Media100 too, but premiere is much easier to come by, and just as user friendly.
  10. Easiest way not to end up in those directories in the first place: GET AN UNLISTED PHONE NUMBER. I just googled myself and my parents' phone numbers, and nothing at all on google. I've had my number for four years, and they've had theirs for near 20. nothing in the google database, because the numbers are unlisted to begin with. if you do have a listed number, please, list it only with your first initial, last name, and no address. Especially if you are female, since married couples usually list the man's name... you don't want some creep reading "Smith, Maryanne, (999) 555-5555, 127 Somewhere Street, California, 90012" The person reading the book will make the probably correct assumption that you live alone and are female. A better entry is "Smith, M. (999) 555-5555" You could be Maryanne or Mark, for all they know.
  11. personally, I love Purgatory resort, just north of Durango, Colorado. Snow and runs like Aspen, but no lift lines!
  12. You can't buy alcohol 24/7 in CA. Liquor sales are not allowed between 2 am and 6 am at bars, restaurants, and retail stores... to prevent people from leaving the bar at 2 am, walking into a grocery and getting more booze, and continuing to drink.
  13. they are usually on radio for landings.
  14. As long as I don't get run over by a snowboarder OR a skiier, I don't care what they've got attached to their feet. Just so long as they do it safely.
  15. Moore's free exercise of religion ends when it impedes others having equal opportunity to exercise their religion. better?
  16. different batches of produce can come from different local farms... if you are a restaurant owner and order six flats of strawberries from "Sunshine Strawberry Farms, inc" each of those flats could, in theory, come from an individiual grower.
  17. nope. the government doesn't stop people from talking about their religion or attending the church of their choice. the thing with the courthouse is that if you allow one monument in, you have to allow monuments to other religions in as well. The courthouse simply doesn't have room. It isn't practical. Since the government CANNOT reasonably permit EVERY religion equal access to space for monuments, therefore, the only fair decision is to not allow monuments in that courthouse at all. By only letting certain religions have monuments, they are showing favoritism towards those religions, which is unconstitutional. All religions must be treated equally under the constitution. If one is permitted to do something, all must be permitted. if one is denied permission, all must be denied. I don't care which religion. Applies equally to all.
  18. with all the direction I was getting over radio from my aff instructor, I probably could've landed with my eyes closed... glad I didn't have to, though. I'm really glad that they found a way to pursue their passion and didn't let a disability stand in their way. I really admire people like that. I don't know if I could be that strong.
  19. WOOT!!!!!!!! Glad everything's gonna be okay, Pam.
  20. what it comes down to is that if they let the christians put a monument there, they have to let everyone else put one there too, or the government would be promoting a particular religion by showing it favor over others... First Ammendment: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." the government will not endorse or oppose any particular religious viewpoint (or religion generally), and will not interfere with the right of citizens to practice their faith. As Thomas Jefferson put it, the American people created a "wall of separation between church and state." By leaving the monument, the government could be said to be promoting christianity, since the monument was placed in a government building. The priest can wear his collar the same as the leaders of other religions can wear their religious symbols... the law is the SAME for everyone. not so in the case of this courthouse. Let everyone do it or no one. but keep it fair.
  21. hugs to Jen and her child too! {{{{{{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
  22. I find it very interesting that Gary felt compelled to answer this question via private message instead of in the public forum where the question was asked... I wonder why.
  23. he may have used his own money to put it up... but its taxpayer money that maintains the facility that he put it in, and taxpayer money that owns the floor its standing on, and taxpayer money that goes to keep the thing clean and in good condition. If he wanted to place a monument on property he or another private party owned, I would have no problem with it at all.
