Wingloading for Just off AFF (Pre License)
Nightingale replied to Bolas's topic in Safety and Training
I just finished aff. I weigh 150 + gear. Been jumping a 240. Tomorrow, I'll be jumping a 230 rental from square 1. I've just learned how to land fairly well, so I'm only downsizing when instructors/coaches tell me I'm ready. That's part of what I pay them for. -
Aub- how'd you get around the TSO issue??

US Supreme Court to hear Detainees: POW or not?
Nightingale replied to Michele's topic in The Bonfire
Bush needs to figure out how the heck he wants to classify these folks... either they are 1. civilian prisoners of the US, which gives them access to the US civilian court system 2. military prisoners of war, therefore under the protection of the Geneva convention. http://www.yale.edu/lawweb/avalon/lawofwar/geneva02.htm right now, these men are legal non-entities, which is wrong. The full constitutional due process protections apply on U.S. territory to citizens and legal residents or visitors, provided they did not gain legal entry by fraud. That does not mean such foreigners don't have full rights of life, liberty, and property, but due process may be truncated, provided authority for doing so is conferred by Congress, by either a declaration of war or letters of marque and reprisal. That authority is needed for such actions as trial of prisoners by a military tribunal, or putting bounties on the heads of suspects. In the absence of such authority, only defensive actions may be taken, without violating the law, represented by 18 USC 2441, which applies to everyone involved, including the president. Am I the only one who has a problem with this?
Nightingale replied to quatorze's topic in The Bonfire
They do pay taxes. They pay sales taxes every time they buy something. The company they work for pays its taxes off profits from their labor. Also, many companies who employ undocumented workers do so without knowing it, because the workers have fake social security numbers. In these cases, the workers pay the same taxes we do, but are usually afraid to file for tax refunds, so they actually pay MORE taxes. see below article in the Arizona Republic: http://www.azcentral.com/news/specials/migrants/0826payingtaxes.html and another in the Daily Texan http://tspweb02.tsp.utexas.edu/webarchive/06-04-01/01060404_s02_Immigrants.html -

Its a catch 22. The cleaning company violated 2 laws. 1. Hiring undocumented immigrants is illegal. 2. Not paying minimum wage is illegal. The men in question were working for the cleaning company. If the cleaning company did not pay them at least minimum wage, they were in violation of labor laws. period. The men's immigration status is another matter. If anything, perhaps this will drive home to the company and other companies that hiring undocumented workers to save money is no longer a viable tactic. the company needs to face the consequences of both violations, and walmart needs to be more careful about who they contract with. -
wingsuits seem interesting... what would you consider an appropriate experience level to try one?

Optical with a cord. I tried the cordless, but found they skipped around a bit too much to be effective for online gaming.
