At renaissance faire, there is a special place for "nursing mothers" For the most part, I don't see anything wrong with it, so long as you try to cover yourself with a blanket or something (without suffocating junior, of course). Would be nice if more places provided nursing areas, though... if the kid's gotta eat, the kid's gotta eat. Being home at feeding time can't always be convenient.

hehe... thanks!

my friend Andy's dog is named Hillary (clinton)

hehe... I know that I know all the stuff I'm suppose do... Its the emotional thing of getting out of the plane by myself, not the actual physical aspects of the skydive... those, I know I can do. I just need to work on confidence, ya know?

Well, my cats are named after George Lucas movies... Anakin got so named because he couldn't master the carpet/tile transition and kept slamming into the front door when he tried to corner from the den to the kitchen, two days after we saw Episode 1... friend said he looked like he was in a pod race. it stuck. Indiana got his name because on the first day I brought him home, he managed to climb all the way up the staircase, jump off the top of the linen closet at the top of the stairs, and land in the living room rafters, 20 feet off the ground! my friend had to go next door and borrow a ladder, picked up the cat by the scruff and said "come on, Indiana Cat" and it stuck. The rats are named Pip and Squeak, just cause it worked, and the fish don't have names. My friend likes to name his pets the name of the kind of animal (or variation thereof) in a foreign language. The german shepherd is Lobo, and the cat is Gato. The goldfish is Langouste (which actually means lobster, but close enough). You get the idea... These are how people mimic the sound of a dog, ie "bow wow" in other languages: Afrikaans: woef Bengali: ghaue-ghaue Chinese (Mandarin): wang wang Croatian: vau-vau Danish: vov English (Old English): Hund byrcð. Esperanto: boj Finnish: hau hau /vuh vuh French: ouah ouah German: wau wau, wuff wuff Greek: gav Hindi: bho:-bho: Icelandic: voff Indonesian: gonggong Italian: bau bau Japanese: kyankyan Russian: gav-gav Spanish (Spain, Argentina): guau guau might give ya some ideas... dunno. what kind of dog is it? knowing that would help.

I'm certified in professional rescuer CPR and first aid. I was a lifeguard several years back, and keeping up the certifications seemed to be a good idea. My CPR mask lives in my glove box, and there's one on my dad's boat, and I have a pair of gloves in a film canister next to the mask. Never had to use it. (knock on wood) Had to use Heimlich a couple of times, tho. PLEASE, people, make sure you know heimlich. It only takes five minutes to learn, and could save a life.

I was going to do my first solo jump yesterday. Due to weather in the morning, I ended up taking a packing class instead... and I was so relieved. Yesterday morning, I was so nervous about the jump I couldn't eat breakfast. Went into Square 1 to ask about gear... got even more nervous when they were telling me about collapsing sliders and resetting pilot chutes... Then it started raining. I wanted to kiss the sky gods. Then people started suggesting I do my hop and pop, because the planes were getting up that high, at least... Sorry. My first solo jump isn't going to be a hop and pop on gear I've never used before. That's more than a little freaky. I think if I'd gone up in the plane, I'd have ridden the plane down. I do not feel ready to jump by myself, especially with gear I'm not familiar with... I'm terrified of not being able to find the hackey. I actually wish I'd failed a few AFF levels so I could have more instructor jumps. I really love to skydive, but I don't feel like I'm ready to take that big step out the door of the plane all by myself yet. Now that I've learned to pack, though, they want my first solo jump to be my own pack job too! I'm nervous enough as it is! Now, I not only have to completely trust my freefall and canopy skills, I have to completely trust my packing skills too! Why am I not liking this idea? is being this freaked out normal? sigh...
-
hehe... then just pick "professional certification", sunny.
-
Are you certified in CPR and/or first aid? Just curious.
-
just curious... out of 532 jumps, did he have any cutaways?
-
Congrats to Jay, to the pilots, the JMs, the packers, and everyone else who helped make the record possible!!! YAY!!!!

very true... and I get put off if I see a sign like that in a restaurant or something, where we already know the rules... however, a DZ is a very different environment, and these are whuffos we're talking about. they don't know whether or not tipping is appropriate. as long as the sign makes it clear that tipping is acceptable, yet NOT EXPECTED, I think its okay.
-
barefoot sneakers or sandals?
-
after my first tandem, my friend and I were both so overwhelmed that tipping didn't even occur to us until we were halfway home! (but the guys did get plenty of beer after I finished AFF, so I guess I made up for it) I wish they would put up a little sign saying "tips welcome, but not expected" or something like that, just to let people know its okay.

Almost Cutaway on Level 5
Nightingale replied to bluewaterstream's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Aff teaches you everything you really need to know to stay safe. 1. how and when to pull 2. how to get stable 3. how to chop 4. when to chop 5. how to land #4 seems like what people get hung up on... what it comes down to is, no matter what the main's doing, if you can't land it safely, chop it. Doesn't matter if its spinning, baglock, line over, line twist you can't get out of... if you can't fix it by your hard deck, chop it, and chop it sooner if its obvious you can't fix it (ie. baglock) I got so hung up on the what ifs that I rode the plane down on my AFF 2. When I went back, my instructor had a long talk with me, and made sure that I understood that yes, there are many strange things that can happen under canopy, but no, I don't need to know what all of them are. I just need to know "if you can't land it, chop it, and pull silver" -

my job wears on me because I have a window seat... and I keep staring out at the pretty blue sky and thinking... "I wanna go jump, DAMNIT!!!" :)

Just to state the obvious here... Just because its OTC, that doesn't mean its safe. Lany, I'm very glad you're okay.
