CONGRATS!!!! and Kai, listen to Jim and put it out.
  3. I loved to teach. I just couldn't afford to keep teaching. The politics got to me too. I will finish grad school with a credential and a masters' degree. and $65,000 in debt. I can't afford to support myself on a teacher's salary, plus pay off the student loan. Just won't happen.
  4. the really funny thing was, they let me on the plane with two wooden stillettos holding my hair up! They look like fancy hairsticks, but they're made out of purpleheart, which is one of the hardest woods known, and needle sharp at the tips. I wear them because I figure if a terrorist is gonna be armed, I want to be armed too. guess I look too sweet and innocent to be walking on a plane with a weapon. They stopped the lady in front of me for wearing something similar, though.
  5. sounded to me like she remembered the delivery method, but she never said anything about remembering the actual message.
  6. when I flew home from florida, they took the blade off my friend's razor. It was just a normal mach3 razor, but they took all his blades, and we thought those were supposed to be okay....
  7. Well said! When I was teaching at a private school, if a child had a learning problem or a physical handicap, they were immediately dropped from the school and referred to the local public school. We weren't being cruel. We simply did not have the facilities to properly handle these children. Our school had to drop a child with a peanut allergy because we did not have a full time school nurse capable of administering the necessary shot should the child be exposed to peanuts, and we could not absolutely guarantee that that would not happen. At first, they tried to bully the person with the most medical training into taking responsibility for administering the shot. That would be my mom, the science teacher. She was a medical technologist for ten years before I came along. Her response: "HELL NO!" There's so much liability there that she wasn't gonna touch it. Next, they tried to get me to "volunteer" as the person with the second most "medical training". Medical training my arse! I was a f-ing LIFEGUARD in college. CPR and first aid only! Again, there was no way I was gonna do it. Then, they bugged our fourth grade teacher, who was diabetic, saying "well, you know how to give shots!" She looked at the principal like she was insane and said "not that kind!" So, the child was transferred out. Did he get as good an education? probably not. However, there was someone there who was capable of dealing with his health requirements.
  8. I'm VERY interested in CReW... at what level would pursuing this interest be reasonable? I know doing it now would be completely out of the question, but at the average progression of canopy skills, about how many jumps til someone can start thinking of CReW?
  9. sure, you can get it. the thing is, most people are not going to go to those extremes to get it. if they have to go to their doctor for weight loss, most will go, get sound medical advice, and lose weight safely. the ones who are desparate to do things the easy way and take shortcuts will take them anyway. What making diet pills prescription only will do is protect the average consumer who believes they're perfectly safe.
  10. I skydive because I want to skydive. coolness has nothing to do with it.
  11. there were no instructors on this load to do a gear check. I did get checked twice by instructors on the ground, and nobody found any problems. I have had folks video my landings... and every single freakin' time I have someone video my landing, its tiptoe perfect. and as soon as the camera goes away, I'm going splat again. LOL.
  12. responsible doctors will NOT prescribe anything. If I went to my doctor and told her I was lacking energy, there's no way in HELL she'd prescribe something... she'd grill me first. 1. what are you eating? are you getting enough fruits/veggies/healthy food? 2. are you sleeping? 3. what are your stress levels like? what's going on in your life? 4. lets do some bloodwork and check iron counts and see if there's anything else wrong. Most doctors are responsible and care about their patients. Sure, there are a few bad apples, like there are in any profession. The thing is, if a doctor prescribed something with all the problems ephedra has had, he or she would be sued for malpractice so fast they wouldn't know which way was up. My doctor told me that if ephedra was considered a drug rather than an herb, it would NEVER have gotten FDA approval to be sold. There are simply too many adverse side effects. My uncle, who works to develop medicines (if you're taking something for hemophilia, you probably have him to thank) agrees.
  13. I've got no problem with cold meds... ephedra, espeically combined with caffeine, can be very dangerous, though.
  14. personally, from the side effects I had from taking hydroxycut, I think these products should be used under the direct supervision of a doctor (a prescription!) or not at all. The bottle recommended I take FOUR pills. I took one. My heart was racing, I was dizzy, short of breath, and just downright feeling rotten. Couldn't sleep. It was a terrible experience, and very scary. Because the government considers ephedra an herb rather than a drug, companies don't have to disclose side effects and all that. When I told my doc what I'd taken, ooooohhhh man, she read me the riot act bigtime! I got a HUGE lecture on how unsafe ephedra is, and that if I REALLY wanted to lose those last five or ten pounds, she'd set me up with a nutritionist (paid for by my health insurance!) and teach me how to do it right.
  15. I always checked the flag in the student circle before setting the landing pattern to make sure. there is a tetra at perris, but the instructors never said anything about it. I honestly didn't even know it was a wind thing.
  16. I've never had a problem reading the flags, and was always one of the last to land anyway, so the pattern was always set.
  17. now code, other than html, which doesn't really count as code, I don't mess with.
  18. DAoC was a waste of time. I put up with that drivel for all of three hours. Tried final fantasy too, but nobody's yet come close to EQ.
  19. do you play EQ, or just do other computer stuff?
  20. lol... I PW on DZ.com all day at work, and then go home and play EverCrack. Can we tell that I have no life?
  21. personally, I have no idea how to read one of those. enlightenment, please??
  22. I had the same experience. I did some research and found that most of the products sold (metabolife, hydroxycut, xenadrine, etc...) all contain more than the recommended dosage, or at least, they did two and a half years ago when I was researching them.
