Hi Chris. Welcome to skydiving.

What kind of games? Owned by Remi #?

No, it's tunnel time. Freefall is freefall. In the tunnel there is a grate at the bottom and a fan at the top. In freefall there is a planet at the bottom and nothing at the top. Hitting the grate in the tunnel in your measure of freefall is annoying. Hitting the planet in actual freefall is fatal. If you think that you can compare the 2 then okay. I see a difference. Every action and reaction in "freefall" needs to take impact at terminal velocity into some measure of account. You can't "not pull" in the tunnel, sir. And your actions will reflect that fact. You can engage in shenanigans that won't kill you in the tunnel where they would kill you in the real sky. Nope, tunnel time is not freefall time. Never will be. Owned by Remi #?

What is up with NY Liberals being Cop haters??!!
labrys replied to friendstersux's topic in Speakers Corner
Okay, I guess you need to have it spelled out very clearly: Your original thread title: Your edited thread title: Your original question within your post: I just don't get it. Liberals, please clarify why you hate cops for curiousity sake. Your edited question within your post: You asked why liberal were cop haters. A HUGE generalization. Then you went back and edited your question and acted like it never happened. WRT the article saying that NY liberals are cop haters, so what? Anyone can write an article claiming that a group of people hates cops. I could write an article that says skydivers all hate guns. Doesn't make it true, does it? If you expect anyone to follow your line of reasoning and ignore your edits, then you must think they're an idiot. Or you're not thinking at all, perhaps? Owned by Remi #? -

No, I believe that they can and do happen. I seriously doubt that they are "quite common", that's all. Owned by Remi #? -

Quite common, huh? Do you have anything to add credence to that other than the word of one person no one else knows or can talk to? Owned by Remi #? -

That kind of misdirectional bullshit would work if you had asked a question and I had answered it with a question, I guess. As it is, you made a statement: "Now the ignorant is voteing based apon bumperstickers." And I responded with a question. So, you hate it when liberals answer questions with questions. And you imply that it also annoys you when liberals respond to statements with questions. Is your point that you really wish liberals would stop asking questions altogether? Are we making your head hurt champ? Owned by Remi #?

Do extremely religious people piss you off?
labrys replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm with what most others have said. Extremely religious people don't bother me at all and I try not to bother them. I know some extremely religious people who are good friends, caring companions, and honorable people. I think that they are who they are in large part because of their beliefs and how they chose to apply them. They seem to really care. I know some extremely religious people who really aren't good people. They seem to be trying to mask hateful deeds or thoughts with the idea that "admitting to sin" and "spreading the word" will somehow give them a pass in the afterlife they accept. Your poll seems to be more about whether or not judgemental people piss other people off. Religion, ack. I have a lot more respect for a religious person who follows a path that seems moral to them for whatever reason than with someone who wants to shift guilt from themselves by finding fault with me. Back when the backhoe on the DZ really wasn't there to "grade the runway"? and ya had to walk uphill both directions to board the plane and get back drom the LZ. With no shoes... in the snow... and you were grateful for the chance? Owned by Remi #?

Okay, fair enough, but please tell me a little more about what you think I am not understanding or what I'm misinterpreting . USPA guidelines and my training and my observation have led me to really believe that it's important to make sure students understand that they are a LOT more likely to be injured making a low turn to avoid an obstacle than hitting an obstacle. I'll say right up front that I've seen students hit bad things and get hurt pretty seriously when they might have made a turn over USPA recommendations and avoided injury entirely or too a much lesser degree, but I also think that those few circumstances were the exception to the norm and that if you have to teach one thing to avoid confusing students, you have to pick what's going to work right most of the time and not what's going to work right under special conditions Owned by Remi #?
-
That's at least 2 people who teach that landing in an open area takes priority over landing flying straight and level. I don't think that the USPA is right about everything, but I do agree with their recommendation that landing in level flight is more important than avoiding obstacles. Why do you teach the opposite? Thanks for the info. It turns out that the demo canopy I was hoping for isn't going to happen so I probably won't be able to even try. I will look these folks up and try to find out about going to a camp somewhere else Owned by Remi #?

You teach students that landing in straight line is less of a priority than avoiding obstacles? Could you explain the reasoning behing that a little more? I teach that landing straight and level is more important than avoiding obstacles and that makes sense to me. That's also what I was trained to teach. 1. Land flying straight and level 2. Land in an open area 3. Get the toggles down to at least your hips Owned by Remi #?
