  1. LMAO! Reason enuf to be for legalizing Jennifer Arianna Frances
  2. I agree - as far as employers testing and discriminating based on that.... as long as it was stated in the terms of employment, then yes - otherwise, no. I've heard of many companies paying for employees to go through drug rehab - if the drugs were legal in the first place it may have kept that person from becoming a detremental member of the work force and prevented the company from spending money on the rehab, and perhaps help them gain a productive employee in the process. 3. http://www.lp.org/press/archive.php?function=view&record=652 October 16, 2003 America owes talk host Rush Limbaugh a debt of gratitude, Libertarians say WASHINGTON, DC -- The entire nation owes radio broadcaster Rush Limbaugh a debt of gratitude, Libertarians say, because his ordeal has exposed every drug warrior in America as a rank hypocrite. "One thing we don't hear from American politicians very often is silence," said Joe Seehusen, Libertarian Party executive director. "By refusing to criticize Rush Limbaugh, every drug warrior has just been exposed as a shameless, despicable hypocrite. "And that's good news, because the next time they do speak up, there'll be no reason for anyone to listen." The revelation that Limbaugh had become addicted to painkillers -- drugs he is accused of procuring illegally from his Palm Beach housekeeper -- has caused a media sensation ever since the megastar's shocking, on-air confession last week. As the Limbaugh saga continues, here's an important question for Americans to ask, Libertarians say: Why are all the drug warriors suddenly so silent? "Republican and Democratic politicians have written laws that have condemned more than 400,000 Americans to prison for committing the same 'crime' as Rush Limbaugh," Seehusen pointed out. "If this pill-popping pontificator deserves a get-out-of-jail-free card, these drug warriors had better explain why." Given their longstanding support for the Drug War, it's fair to ask: Why haven't President George Bush or his tough-on-crime attorney general, John Ashcroft, uttered a word criticizing Limbaugh's law-breaking? Why aren't drug czar John P. Walters or his predecessor, Barry McCaffrey, lambasting Limbaugh as a menace to society and a threat to "our children?" Why aren't federal DEA agents storming Limbaugh's $30 million Florida mansion in a frantic search for criminal evidence? Why haven't federal, state, and local police agencies seized the celebrity's homes and luxury cars under asset-forfeiture laws? Finally, why aren't bloviating blabbermouths like William Bennett publicly explaining how America would be better off if Limbaugh were prosecuted, locked in a steel cage and forced to abandon his wife, his friends, and his career? The answer is obvious, Seehusen said: "America's drug warriors are shameless hypocrites who believe in one standard of justice for ordinary Americans and another for themselves, their families and their political allies. "That alone should completely discredit them." But there's an even more disturbing possibility, Seehusen said: that the people who are prosecuting the Drug War don't even believe in its central premise -- which is that public safety requires that drug users be jailed. "The Bushes and Ashcrofts and McCaffreys of the world may believe, correctly, that individuals fighting a drug addiction deserve medical, not criminal treatment," he said. "That would explain why they're not demanding that Limbaugh be jailed. "But if that's the case, these politicians have spent decades tearing apart American families for their own political gain. And that's an unforgivable crime." Arianna Frances
  4. haha - nope. Plus, cut and paste is great! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  5. Agreed! Today's illegal drugs were legal before 1914. Cocaine was even found in the original Coca-Cola recipe. Americans had few problems with cocaine, opium, heroin or marijuana. Drugs were inexpensive; crime was low. Most users handled their drug of choice and lived normal, productive lives. Addicts out of control were a tiny minority. Today's war on drugs is a re-run of Prohibition. Approximately 40 million Americans are occasional, peaceful users of some illegal drug who are no threat to anyone. They are not going to stop. The laws don't, and can't, stop drug use. ok.... not going to go too deep.... I'm not good at starting fights Jennifer Arianna Frances
  6. LMAO - I was just going to post this! Being a libertarian I'm in favor of it... but I'll state my views when I have more time here at work to type them Jennifer Arianna Frances
  7. ~~~~~VIBES~~~~~~~ Hope everything works out ok - just keep a positive outlook and know that we're all pulling for you here! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  8. "And what exactly is the purpose of the helmet? Can you 'almost make it'?? Believe me, if you jump out of that plane and your chute doesn't open, that helmet is wearing YOU for protection! Later it's sitting with the other helmets going 'good thing I had that human for protection otherwise I'd have hit the ground directly!'". Jennifer Arianna Frances
  9. I have blue cross and blue shield - doesn't exclude skydiving.... Purchasing insurance is danm expensive. I did it when I was out of work 2 years ago - cost me $280/month just for me! I never even used it... Jennifer Arianna Frances
  10. well... I'm a big fan of Sting for romantic music... Cheezy 80's music works well too - like Richard Marx. Good luck! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  11. Ya.... thats something to consider. Its a lateral move right now - but a field in 'secretarial service' (don't even know if thats what they call it) is not what I want, and I've been doing it too long as it is. I think I want the flexability to allow me to pursue my passions (be it school, sky diving, traveling) while my husband and I are still 'free' (meaning no kids), and going to a smaller institution (with nicer people) will allow me to do that. I think I'll go for it if the money is at least at what I'm making now, because the other benefits don't change being the same 'company'. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  12. I'd like to get opinions. I'm in school (nights) right now, for a degree in computer programming. I will have my AS at the end of next year, and then transfering for my BS after that. I work full time at a local hospital in a VERY busy dept. as the secretary to a VP and director. I'm relied upon alot and its stressful - plus the politics in this place rival the statehouse. I'm sick of it. Yesterday my supervisor (who I do no work for) told me that I can't work out at the gym during lunch anymore becuase its a federal law that I can't eat lunch at my desk. (bull f*&#ing crap). Today I got a call from a director at one of the other hosptials in our healthcare system - she is looking for a new secretary. She's trying to get me better pay than I'm making now because she really wants me, but it may not be possible to get more money becuase its a much smaller hospital. The pros: Only working for one person, not so stressful Possibly more money More flexible and less politics The cons: No more free gym (I know this seems small to some of you, but its a big reason I've stayed here) Won't learn as much - this current job I'm learning a ton in and I get alot of respect from everyone other than my supervisor I LOVE the people I work with! No real opportunity for growth - which may or may not be a bad thing because I'm going for a degree. I'm really torn. I don't want to act emotionally on this, becuase at the moment I'm so pissed at my supervisor that I could just up and quit - she's such a bitch. But on the other hand, the flexibility at this other position seems fantastic, and I already know the people I'd work with. The travel will be just a little bit more, but traffic is not good in that section of town. I'm currently 10 min. from home. I love the challenge this current job gives me, and not knowing exactly what this other position is offering (interview is soon) I'm a little bit anxious. I think I'm writing this down more for me than you guys - but I would still love to get opinions. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  13. Who can study after watching that? That song ALWAYS makes me cry. That was beautiful - I know you guys will miss him, as everyone will. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  14. *VIBES AND GOOD THOUGHTS* For WrongWays Mom. On the bright side, I hear that this surgery works wonders - I hope the same is true for your mom! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  15. haha - I love that movie! I just laugh when I ever I think of that fat guy that got 'fired' and just never left - reminds me of this guy in my office thats sole job is to take up space. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  16. Ya know - to tell you the truth, I've done the same thing. I'm a computer programmer and have gone through several computers in just the last few years. My office here at home is looking like a computer parts warehouse... anyway, when I was first starting out in programming I got very frustrated at a program I was developing. I went into mIRC to see if someone there would help me (that was my first mistake, as they're all self absorbed a-holes in there), and when that didn't work out I got so frustrated I slammed my chair into my desk which cause the top shelf of my desk, which had my monitor, scanner and printer to break and fall backwards out the window! Being on the second floor - it wasn't pretty, and I had to get all new stuff. It was not good at all. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  17. End of the year banquet sounds fun! I'll be there next year! And since thats the case, you'll see me during the day on the 15th! Hope the weather cooperates - it was absolutely BEAUTIFUL today. I brought my gloves and didn't even need to take them out of the car - simply a great day. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  18. Sell it on ebay! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  19. Bummer.... I was looking for you too! The loads after me were grounded due to wind, dunno if they got up eventually. So, the 15th theres a big thing going on? Don't know if I should head out there then - since I'm doing yet another tandem... Don't want to spoil the fun for people - maybe I can catch the 16th then, or is this thing the whole weekend? Hope to see you eventually! It was a ton of fun too - thanks for the recommendations! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  20. Hi PJ, Jumped with Chad today - trying out his camera flying skills. He did a great job too! He stayed up with Derek, which he says he can't normally do. Hope to see you there soon. Jennifer Arianna Frances
  21. I was very happy to hear they jump to Dec. 1!! So that means this wasn't the last jump for me! woo hoo! I'll be going again probably November 15th weekend - hope you can make it too. I'd love to meet everybody! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  22. I'm still going to try to get that FAA level 3 clearance, but after I have my A. Maybe by then we'll be lucky enough to have Lincoln opened to experienced jumpers. I would love to jump at Lincoln, but can understand why not due to the problems they've had lately. Hope to see you in orange some time next year! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  23. Just came back from doing a tandem at Jumptown in Orange, MA. I had previously not wanted to jump there becuase its almost 2 hours away. This is my 3rd tandem, and third DZ. I think I found a place to call 'home'. Everyone at manifest was really pleasant and friendly and I got introduced to people! How cool is that? It made me feel instantly less nervous. To make it even better, they didn't have any problem with my dr.s letter! ya! Not only that - but the Otter was much better for my nerves than the Cessna 182 from last week. Everyone in the plane kept turning around making funny faces at me - but being my 3rd jump this wasn't so bad. What a great bunch of people! Derek was my TM and Chad jumped with us to try and hone (is that a word?) his camera skills. Not a cloud in the sky (Finally a jump with no clouds! woo hoo!), and the view with the trees changing colors was unbelievable. I had so much fun! More fun than my first jump! I felt super comfortable and can't wait for April so I can get into the classes - this is gonna be SO much fun! Thanks to everyone who pushed me to try another DZ after getting turned down at the previous one - you all helped me have a really fun time today! Jennifer Arianna Frances
  24. Pabst Blue Ribbon Ya, go ahead, laugh. But its really good stuff! Jennifer Arianna Frances
