Just yesterday an old friend from FL put up some pictures from the DZ (Parkman) from the mid 80's. Put a big smile on my face. I would have missed that without FB. Why?...first off how about you stepping up and quit wasting fossil fuels jumping from airplanes. Or driving your car. And even if we did everything we possibly could to reduce emissions, China and India need to come along for the ride or it won't amount to a popcorn fart in a windstorm. IIRC, the AADs went back to the families, who declined to provide them to Airtec for examination. Mark Wow...really? Something I never thought about, but may be a good idea to let my loved ones know it's my wish to allow for any & all investigation be made, in the hope of furthering the safety of the sport..."if' something ever happens that is. Yeah I may need to advise my family not to be selfish idiots. It might considered be too harsh to deem people who would do that as such, but I'm standing by it because they're actively impeding efforts to prevent other people from suffering the fate of their loved ones. And I assume skydivers have informed the families how important the data in these AADs are, and they still don't want to send them in. If this would have happened in 'normal life', let's say a car crash with a videocamera in the car the families don't have the option to keep the camera, do they? I see another paragraph on the waiver coming. Although tragic I think it might have done the community a good turn by getting us talking about AADs and reserves and containers and all that can go right and still go wrong. First is not a world fix but would go a long way towards improving the quality of life for all countries; stop making people pay huge $ for a college education. There should be universities in the US that are paid for by the government if you qualify academically. We're willing to give millions to uneducated idiots who can't support themselves. The ROI on those dollars are $0.00. Of course you should still be able to get the best education money can buy so Harvard and Stanford can still charge megabucks. Use technology advances to make nuclear war obsolete. Once obsolete there would be no reason to keep the warheads. Yea, I know. Lots of bad guys would love to get their hands on a nuke, but that problem exists now and it seems we've done a pretty good job of keeping them out of the terrorists hands. We were brilliant back in the 80's at Parkman. Decided we would do the last dive of '85 and the first dive of '86. NYE jumps were hop-n-pops b4 the festivities. New Year's Day 1986. I don't think there were very many sober people in the Beech that morning. We had taken precautions. Ski masks, gloves, vaseline on any exposed skin etc... John Molleck's Beech 18 had a 4x8 piece of plywood that covered the cargo door. We jammed it up with a 2x4 but that still left a space of about 8" at the very top that was open. Long story short....-11 inside the plane at 12,500. Never did figure what wind chill was on the way down. Later in my career people would give me a raft of shit about saying it was too cold to jump.
