+1 Is there an ONLINE grammar checker to which you can direct him? At first, the posts were humorous and entertaining, now they are simply irritating. It is amazing to me that anyone would give them credence or worthy of consideration. I'm no grammar Nazi but...jeesh... Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

I've tied hundreds of bowline knots in my day and I *still* hear a dialog in my head about a rabbit coming out of a hole next to a tree, running around the tree and then back down the hole.

If this this forum was a democratic place where we all voted on who to ban, rather than a totalitarian one, my vote would be to ban Blevins and allow Georger. Not that it matters, but I see no reason to ban anybody for any thing; the concept reminds me of grade school.. But, we are, essentially, in another's house where they can make the rules and Quade makes the big bucks enforcing those rules. /sarcasm Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

I received my Instructor's rating at an ICC at Pelicanland in Ridgely, MD in 1971 or 1972. Everyone taught PLFs then because the rigs we used were mostly modified military surplus 28' canopies. Landings were almost always hard and bruising. Standing up was next to impossible... and stupid. One of the guys presenting during the course was Caesar Aguilar. During his presentation on how to teach PLFs someone raised their hand and asked, "What should we teach people about landings on roofs or buildings?" The class burst into laughter. Without missing a beat Caesar said, "Tell them to do a good PLF and immediately prepare to do another." Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

Stolen gear stories with happy endings
Guru312 replied to Krip's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
My comments aren't about a happy ending over stolen gear as much as being comments about our sport and how small an amount of stuff that actually does get stolen. I was a DZO for five years. After that I flew jumpers for about 8 years. I attended almost every Herd Boogie over the years and for all of that time I can think of only one or two incidents of stolen gear...or stolen anything. One of the most impressive things about a Herd Boogie was the hundreds of people who left gear, money and unmentionables unattended or barely hidden in a van, on a car seat or out in the open on a blanket. Hundreds of people with their gear laying out...and always safe. We all trusted our kind. I don't mean to be all dramatic but... our community it is a very large group of people who have incredible respect for others in the sport. The mutual respect was always something that I admired. In addition to the very few cases of theft I never saw a fight with actual physical confrontation. A few yelling and screaming matches but never have I seen a fight. Have you ever thought about this: If the rest of the none jumping world could have the same degree of respect for others that we show to other jumpers this world would be a much better place. Birthday: it's the 50th year since my first skydive.
Guru312 replied to patworks's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Not only is he a national treasure, he is also OLD. Congratulations, Pat!!! There aren't too many of us who can claim the big 50 for our years in the sport. My first skydive was June 1960. I've loved reading your stuff over the years. I hope you have another 50 in you. Guru312 I am not DB Cooper -
Jim, you are unquestionably one of the funniest people I've encountered on the Internet. And I've been online since well before the existence of 'the Web'. And bump... Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

Sometimes I think I should post an apology to the jumpers on DZ.com for participating in that stupid, addicting thread as much as I did. But the truth is that the creation of this thread speaks to how many jumpers are fascinated by it, as well as being pissed by it. There's not much worse than these know-it-all wannabes. Many of the whuffos are totally obnoxious, two particularly of them. Their general misunderstanding of our sport is hilarious. I love the number of instances where they argue among themselves over something that none of them know anything about. The thread really does have some totally hilarious moments. I've been fascinated by the hijacking ever since I heard it on the radio a few hours after it happened. I keep reading the Cooper thread and hoping some old geezer like myself will pop into the thread and write: "I just finally got connected with this here stupid computer thingy. I figured I needed to learn about computers after seein that TV show about my jump..." Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

Discussion of facts within this forum has been quite shallow lately. Since no one else has referenced it...maybe I missed a reference buried within all the noise...I'm posting a link which is actually pertinent to the DB Cooper topic: Hijackings. Note the very thin considerations over-all for hijackings. See this for starters: http://www.rutgerslawreview.com/2011/2-protocols-for-responding-to-hijackings/ See the entire report from Rutgers Law Review here: http://www.rutgerslawreview.com/2011/a-new-type-of-war/ Fascinating reading.... Possibly one or two posts that actually have something to do with the DB Cooper case. Them whuffos be a-fightin' over rubber bands, piles of sand and pressure bumps. They been leavin' and comin' back and leavin' and comin' back. Kinda funny, readin' stuff writ by people what know nothin' about our sport. Oh! ...and I still ain't DB Cooper. I'm amazed that you made it out of that maze in the maize. Most folks would have been dazed or crazed after only a few days. Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

You've got to be fucking kidding, right?! Until we see jump numbers, watch you under canopy and see if you know how to pack...as minimum requirements... your chances of becoming *anything* within THIS community are about as slim as the members of this forum finding that DB Cooper lived to see another day. Not quite true, you can become an outcast almost without trying. Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

Nope. She saw my advertisement and realized that her uncle worked for me. LD Cooper taught a few hundred people how to pull off a hijacking. See for yourself http://berniesayers.com/HijackAd.jpg Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

You better believe it. LD Cooper. Dang. That's really hitting close to home. I should begin worrying when the FBI comes a-knockin'. Agin... http://berniesayers.com/I_am_not_DB_Cooper.htm I should go back to picking stocks and roulette. I can foretell the future!!! Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

Are Boenish videos available anywhere?
Guru312 replied to murrays's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I used a copy of his "Sky Capers"...one of his first if I recall correctly...to recruit college students in the Delaware Valley area in the early 70s. I showed it dozens...maybe hundreds...of times. It was 16mm and finally I had to stop using it there were so many splices. What a film...and not his best by any means. I googled and found this: http://www.pyramidmedia.com/item.php3?title_id=1260&list=2201,1026,1365,1366,1065,1069,1648,1077,1657,1538,1597,1133,2066,2130,1083,1395,1179,2189,1202,2132,2177,1949,1354,1590,1243,1260,2046,2125,1629,1295,1299&alpha=&cat_id= VHS format $39.00. You'll have trouble finding a VHS machine! What a great volume of work he created. I'm sorry I never had the pleasure of meeting him. Guru312 I am not DB Cooper -
It's all relative...you are young and I am old. The important thing: Airborne! All the way! So, yes, ya done good. Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

I went through jump school at Bragg in March, 1960. [That makes me really, really old.] I was lucky to have jumped 119, 123, and 130 aircraft. The 119 was the most fun except it was a terrible ride in formation and turbulent air. And Steve1, you young, sexist pig check out my two female pilots:http://berniesayers.com/March2010.html One an astronaut and one a skywriter. See March 9th and 10th on the referenced page. I can think of only two jump pilots better than either of those women: Mike Schultz, from Pelicanland and... me. Both of them are far cuter than Mike. Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

I'd guess, maybe 5 or 6000. Oh, wait, you mean wearing a jump rig and not as the pilot. In that case a few hundred. I was a J/M and often had to land to pick up another load. It's a good question. Rather humorous how many jumpers really do not like to land in the plane. It's nice to read your salutation addressed to me. Ooops, not just me. Damn, I hate this getting old crap. I'll be damned! I would have bet money against this being true. I am wrong. Truly amazing. Thanks to those who responded to my disbelief; particularly to Jim for providing a link to a previous thread with the picture. "You people what jump outta them parachutes are nuts..." The joke's on me. Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

I second that. I can't understand what you mean by "with the top guy inside the center cell of the lower chute." Seriously, how does one get inside a cell? I can not picture what you mean. Can you try to explain? I'm not getting something... I was wondering if this is some kind of an April Fools joke foisted old farts like me. Guru312 I am not DB Cooper

Jumped a D-6 Russian paratrooper rig with a drogue
Guru312 replied to pchapman's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
What strange construction. I'm intrigued by the non-symmetrical construction. Look closely, you'll see the pieces are in different areas of each side. Totally not symmetrical. It must be a nightmare to assemble and sew. It almost looks like they assembled it from left-over scraps. Very intriguing.. Thanks for this thread it's quite interesting. Guru312 I am not DB Cooper
