  1. I read it in the Bible. I know you know that as well. Keep in mind, the Holy Bible is not one book. It is a collection of books spanning about 1500 years written by approximately 44 different authors. Corroborating evidence is contained therein. You are concerned with the physical world and I am focused on the spiritual world. You teach people how to build bridges from one side of the river to the other. I teach people how to build bridges to God, eternal life in Christ and, peace of mind. You cannot force your students to learn and neither can I. Still we seek to do our best in our fields. This I know from experience, science produces information for direction. The Bible provides peace of mind that exceeds understanding. If I need figure out how to cross a river I will call you. There is ZERO objective evidence that your god exists. The bible is a self-referential collection of neolithic writings that has no more objective truth than the Gospel of the FSM. And you still haven't explained why your god suddenly morphed from a nasty vengeful cruel jealous despot to a lovey dovey guy some 2,000 years ago. That is not exactly an OMNIPRESENT behavior I have never claimed He morphed. That is your term. I don't need to know how a match works to know that I can start a fire with it. 2. 'my' lack of care for others?? From whence did you derive that? I don't need God's love, i have my own to dish out. And I will take 'my lack of care for others' as a direct insult. Just 'cause you got 'God' on your side does not make you the messiah of compassion dude, you actually used 'god's comfort' as justification for killing someone in an earlier thread. I can absolutely understand your need for God in your 'gravest times of need', but to me that simply shows a weakness within your own persona. Some of us actually have no such need. Some of us can manage on our own without the 'divine intervention' into my soul. We all like to help our fellow man in times of need - I just cannot stand to see people waste their lives away chasing some deity hoping that this will bring them some eternal whatever......how about you just spend your life being a nice guy and helping your fellow man. Or is that too much to ask. Christian types - Sheesh - yeah you hold all the cards on morality and care in the world. I asked earlier - how many children have the Catholic Church molested today? What arrogance! You don't care about me. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

  7. I understand you "scientist types." The problem that I see is the understanding of compassion for others. In my profession we say, I don't care how much you know until I know how much you care. It is obvious that you, Kallend, et.al. do not care. Your lack of concern for others does not stop me, Coreece, maadmax, et.al from preaching God's love as I/we understand it. Science has never provided me with what I needed during my gravest times of need. The Bible provides information and comfort. Science provides information. I prefer the former to the latter. That preference does not carry a requirement for you and your ilk. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. 8. Outside of the pagan stuff, I know that Jesus Christ forgives our sin and provides the experience of salvation. That covers a lot for me and others like me. 10. Some individuals believe that some rational thoughts create internal and external conflict. I know that I have rational thoughts that create conflict here in the SC. If I choose to eliminate the conflict, how do I proceed? I seek to check out the thought in reality. If I get no confirmation then I know it is not rational enough to be useful. Or, I say it is irrational. If I get some confirmation then I know it is rational enough to continue to pursue the thought, make a decision and implement action. The action will produce an emotion which will stimulate thought and the process continues. An individual who is antisocial or sociopathic at the extreme finds all thought rational to satisfy his or her needs, wants and desires. Such individuals are guided by their own narcisisstic emotions and thoughts. When an individual has thoughts that produce mental conflict it is a double bind and very difficult to make a decision and go forward. The old saying is, damned if I do and damned if I don't. In the latter two instances, the individual's thoughts are rational but not acceptable. In the first example, the antisocial is not accepted by society. In the second, the individual is not accepted by his or her self. In both cases the thoughts are rational at the moment of mental conception. There are three concepts of normal, statistical, which measures central tendency i.e. the mean, mode and median. The second is moral, which is culturally relative. The third is concept of self. The individual question is, am I normal and I how do I know? Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. 12. No. Just a strong interest in REBT because it has been very helpful to me. Another question came to me this morning. RET was introduced to me and our counselors as a technique to enhance our counseling with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Are you utilizing the questioning techniques as a self help guide? 13. Lamest of the lame excuses. Kallend, I do not, nor do I have to, make excuses for God the Father, Jesus the Son or the Holy Spirit. I accept Him in three Persons. I know that you know that. Why do you make comments at that level? Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

  17. I have been able to identify many of my own irrational beliefs/thoughts. It sometimes takes a lot of effort to dispute these beliefs, but it is possible. And it has helped me a lot in reducing anxiety (which can sometimes be a form of internalized anger). Anyhow, I'm probably not the best at explaining it. If you're interested, look up REBT. (Though I'm guessing it's quite a bit different than the kind of counselling you're involved with. And different things work for different people.) I was introduced to RE(B)T at the last program where I was a section manager. Are you a clinician? Self diagnosis and therapy is not efficient. It is always recommended that we find a non-judgmental third party professional resource for personal growth. I haven't always been efficient either.
  18. Some day, some way, I hope and pray that you and others learn the difference between Old Testament Law and New Testament Grace. Question: Then why even care about the Old Testament? If the God of the Old Testament is made irrelevant because of the New Testament, then why cling to ANY of it? It is the same God. The OT lays the historical foundation of law and the need for grace. Jesus Christ's death establishes the atonement for sin and allows God's grace for all who accept it, including homosexuals. thieves, murderers, adulterers, blasphemers, and so on. The need for a priest to enter the holy of holies and offer sacrifice has been abrogated. Ok, so then why are so many Christians against gay marriage or any one of a number of other "sins"? Isn't all of that God's purview? Is this the rabbit hole part? Sin is sin. Jesus delivers and forgives sin to allow worship with God. Being against homosexual marriage is not the same as "death to homosexuals." "No man comes to the Father except by Me." That is a paraphrase of gospel Scripture. It is the individual sinner's responsibility to accept Jesus. Homosexuals can be forgiven the same as any sinner, if they chose to. Homosexual marriage is rebellion against what is natural. It has always been recognized as perversion by some and sought after by others. It is a choice, as with all sin which benefits flesh and not spirit. I know that you know that. So, "ask Alice." 19. Look for evidence to support the belief, and then decide how rational it is. There's the rub. To the individual, all beliefs and thoughts are rational. As billvon pointed out, anger comes from surprise. From the counseling/therapeutic aspect, it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to determine which comes first, anger or fear. They are explored together for the client's benefit. Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

  22. "Anger is not an involuntary emotional response to a specific situation. Anger arises from a philosophy--a way of viewing the world. At its core, anger represents an outlook of grandiosity, self-righteousness, commanding, and condemning." Perhaps it is better to externalize rather than internalize anger, but even better to learn to change irrational beliefs that lead to anger in the first place. Expressing anger does not rid oneself of anger, any more than expressing love rids oneself of love. Are you making the point that without core beliefs you never have to deal with anger? How do you know when you have an irrational belief? Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit. They only last for an instant but it is a Holy Instant. Let your soul absorb them.

  24. Anger is a spontaneous emotion. It cannot be controlled only expressed. If it is not expressed it can and most often leads to depression. The Bible instructs us not to sin in our anger but express it before the sun goes down. Civilized society demands that we express anger in a socially acceptable manner. My personal experience and my experience with clients indicates that rational thought does not always yield expression in a socially acceptable manner. 25. http://www.defense.gov/releases/release.aspx?releaseid=14367 IMMEDIATE RELEASE No. 247-11 March 28, 2011 Statement by the Army on Photographs Published by Rolling Stone “The photos published by Rolling Stone are disturbing and in striking contrast to the standards and values of the United States Army. Like those published by Der Spiegel, the Army apologizes for the distress these latest photos cause. Accountability remains the Army’s paramount concern in these alleged crimes. Accordingly, we are in the midst of courts-martial, and we continue to investigate leads. We must allow the judicial process to continue to unfold and be mindful that the government has distinct obligations to the victims and to the accused, which include compliance with the court's protective order to ensure a fair trial. That said, the Army will relentlessly pursue the truth, no matter where it leads, both in and out of court, no matter how unpleasant it may be, no matter how long it takes. As an Army, we are troubled that any soldier would lose his ‘moral compass’ as one soldier said during his trial. We will continue to do whatever we need to as an institution to understand how it happened, why it happened and what we need to do to prevent it from happening again.” Look for the shiny things of God revealed by the Holy Spirit.
