  1. There used to be a video around here called Ride that was a guy doing exactly that. Opening high and just flying past and round a large cumulus. It's a really chilled out clip.
  2. Dire Straits - Money for Nothing Queen - One Vision Queen - Live Aid pt1 Queen - Live Aid pt2
  3. Just out of interest has anyone actually gone along and asked for a Hop n Pop at SDA since this release yet? Lots of things aren't 'economically viable' but are still done anyway.
  4. Out of interest, what's the reasoning behind the move of the cutter?
  5. Particularly looking for UK opinions on what travel insurance company you guys are using? Columbus Insurance no longer cover skydiving - parachuting is covered, but apparently any freefall invalidates the insurance. The Sports Cover Direct from the BPA site wants nearly J300 for a week long holiday - and the BHPA have a 150% excess for skydiving - that one comes out at just under 100 quid for 10 days. who are you guys using for cover?

    US Car rental

I'll be arriving into LAX in less than a 2 weeks () and wanted some advice about car rental in the states. Are there any companies that I should avoid or ones you've had particularly good experiences with? Any brits got advice about driving over there they've learned? How does this automatic shift thing work? ta
  7. Nice! You've just put a big grin on my face!
  8. Wasn't there some dissapointment last year that a load of vendors weren't in attendance?
  9. Bet you're glad you weren't barrel rolling to clear the airspace above you!
  10. Just spoke to a very nice bloke from the CAA Dangerous Goods Office. He's going to mail a copy of the Cypres exeption letter to me today. If anyone needs this in the future, the contact number for them is 01293 573800.
  11. Does anyone know where a copy of the CAA Cypres exemption letter might be downloaded? There used to be a copy on the BCPA website, but it looks like that site is knackered. ta
  12. A couple of videos by the Graffiti Research Lab that I got sent links to. The first one was in an effort to brighten up a dog-ugly metal clad bulding in the neighbourhood, the second is just Graffiti gone LARGE. Linky 1 Linky 2
  13. When I went through my SL course, the very first part of our emergency procedures was to look at the canopy, make a decision and then start reeling off the procedures out loud. The first thing that we were taught to shout was 'malfunction'... That is immediately followed by the look, locate, peel, pull etc. I'm guessing that's why we were taught that line twists were in the 'nusiance' section of the course along with end cell closure. Putting it in the 'Malfunctions' section may confuse a student into automatically following their emergency procedures when there's no need. Word association can be pretty compelling.... 'Malfunction' is a 'don't screw around, chop it', process, a 'Nusiance' is a 'This is fixable - try and sort it above your hard deck' process.
  14. Morning folks, I'm heading out to Perris for the easter boogie and was wondering if there'd be any canopy coaches around there at the time? I can't see anything on the calander for scheduled classes, so I was thinking about any experienced pilots you guys might recommend asking? Cheers
  15. Nothing on my Teardrop SF repack card showing regularly replaced loops. It looks OK now too.
  16. My brain struggles with legal-ese. Any chance you could give me a hypothetical translation of this? Is it a 'you were doing something you knew to be dangerous, so there's a limit on the liability' clause?
  17. Scary stuff, but was this what you were taught to do in the case of an AC Emergency?
  18. Please see the picture I posted along with the explanation on how to use it. You are not supposed to use the mirror while tracking. You use it right before pulling. OK, for the sake of argument lets say that you use a wrist mounted mirror exactly as you describe - you track away from a formation, flare out of your track, check your mirror and then see someone above you... What then? You've already stopped tracking. You've now limited your options - the primary one is now sucking it low. Way to go! You will not be able to get back into an effective track and avoid someone simply because you need time and distance to build up the speed to do so. Seriously, I'm curious what you think you'll do if you see someone above you in your wrist-mirror at 2500ft?
  19. As taken from the BPA website: "Full BPA Membership for 07/08 is now J152.10" I thought there was supposed to be an EGM for any significant increase? so a 30% increase isn't significant? The BPA makes me so bloody angry sometimes.
  20. I think that for a majority of skydivers, particularly those with limited experience, the time spent barrel rolling would be better spent continuing a max track. Having said that, I'm not convinced a lot of skydivers know what that is. There's some really lazy tracking out there.
  21. That is unbelievable. Either a majority of the people on that plane were suffering hypoxia or there's some pretty callous skydivers around... Someone's obviously struggling in the door ar 21 grand and others are shouting 'GO!"... It's a great video of just how screwed up your judgement will get under those conditions though.
  22. Rubbish. Canopy control courses are a great help, but people have been skydiving for a long time without them. Sentences like the one you just made are way out of proportion. If you can get a canopy control course, then do by all means, but don't stop jumping if you can't. Ask your instructors for advice and get them to video your landings.

    Acid Mesh

I've come across a few references to 'acid mesh', particularly in relation to round reserves. I know it was something to do with the degredation of canopy fabric, but wondered if anyone could shed a bit more light on the term?
