Congrats dude! Welcome to the sky! As to people being a bit stand-offish, don't feel to bad about it. These guys will see dozens of tandem students every weekend and then probably never see most of them again... That attitude will change if you start jumping regularly and become a little more known on the DZ.

My rig was second hand and a bit too small. Usable, but not comfy... I've just spoken to Thomas Sports and they said about 200 pounds for a new custom-measured harness with addtional chest rings. Just throwing that out here for any UK guys in the same situation.

Because if it didn't go exactly right and you got your left arm tangled up in the deploying main, you've: a) just broken your other (only working) arm, and b) just put a big ball of washing in the way of your reserve deployment, which you can't now pull anyway... It seems like a balance of risk issue to me...

Some people earn money to hoard it for a rainy day. Some people earn money to spend it on a sunny one. Those two types will never see eye-to-eye on something like skydiving, which at best to whuffos is 'just a hobby'. If you're not dependant upon them, it's not really your parents problem is it?

Scary stuff. Congrats on surviving! Out of interest, why did you choose to use the main rather than your reserve? The idea of entangling my one good arm in the deploying main lines scares the hell outta me.

To non-riggers, under the reserve flaps is a bit of a mystery and I think we rely on our riggers to tell us the truth about what's going on in there. I'd be much more angry to find out that my rigger was arbitrarily deciding 'there are things I don't need to know' rather than saying 'hey fella, I found a tissue in your reserve - It's no big deal, but I figured you'd want to know anyway.'

I was just watching the first day of the Algarve PGA golf tournament when the camera cut to what looks like a 4 way landing on one of the fairways in the middle of the tournament! The comentators sounded a touch confused! They aso showed the dornier landing nearby. Own up. who was it?
