And nobody here means to seem overbearing, but you need to realise that you sound exactly like dozens of other novice jumpers who are convinced of their 'mad skills' and don't want to be held back by old fuddy duddies who only have a couple of decades in the sport... Unfortunatey while we keep jumping, decade after decade, history shows that the vast majority of those who think they're better than they are end up hurt, or dead... and whether you believe it or not, this is you at the moment. You don't know how good you are. You have no idea how capable you are with only 30 jumps under your belt. Like the majority of gung-ho newbies before you, you'll do what you want and find someone who gives you advice that you want to hear. All I ask it that when you fuck yourself up, don't do it at my dropzone.

Thanks guys.

Parents; Do you steal some of your kid's Halloween candy?
yoink replied to JohnRich's topic in The Bonfire
I was confused enough that haloween seems to be about teaching children the basis of extortion, but now they need to understand that 'the boss' gets their cut too... Jeez. You want them to grow up fast, dontcha! -
Newbie - Please help!! Sabre (1) 170 vrs PD 170???
yoink replied to peregrine_1's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Short answer - Personally, I'd find out how many jumps each has, and when / if either has been relined or had any mods or repairs made to it. All things being equal, I'd lean toward the Sabre, but I'd then get an experienced jumper to jump the it a few times to see if it suffers from the hard openings that some Sabres do. Don't just jump at the first canopies you see though! Do your research, keep looking and try and test jump any canopies you find, or get someone you trust to do it for you. It's a sad truth that newbies can sometimes get stung buying old or inappropriate canopies by someone capitalising on their excitement to get into the sport. Remember, you'll be flying it for a while, so there's no rush to get the first one you find bought and packed! -
Hi all, unfortunately I'm in need of a small amouont of sail material to patch my Aeros Ballistic GL wing that got slightly damaged as I was passing through a tree... Does anyone know where I can get hold of a small amount of the Porsche Marine sail material?

That's rediculous. You may as well say 1) Stay safe. 2) Don't die. That's all you need to skydive safely... Nobody plans to get distracted, crash into anyone or to fly in an unsafe manner. If a device is likely to increase any of these factors, it's a bad idea.

You've got over 15,000 posts here, and you're only just figuring that out??? Not the sharpest tool in the box, are you?

Good thing it'd be dark! I wouldn't be able to keep a straight face!

Love the flocking & group landings! Good job on not killing yourself!

ah. The old pub-a-roonie. It's still here?

Man. You live in a one-dimensional world, don't you? on topic - I used to do a fair amount of origami, but specialised in geometrical forms that used multiple modules of the same folding to create shapes like these: http://www.zenoli.net/wp-content/2007/02/five-interlocking-tetrahedra-3.jpg/[url] [url]http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2261/1994033182_2236abb92b.jpg http://www.instructables.com/files/deriv/FGA/TRSD/F8DOZPJ5/FGATRSDF8DOZPJ5.MEDIUM.jpg http://fc03.deviantart.com/fs14/f/2007/083/d/9/Origami_Swan_by_phissen.jpg I can well believe someone has created the dragon in the first post. There are some rediculously complex pieces out there.

Video comparing opening on a Velo and Xaos
yoink replied to padu's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Looks like Padu is putting a lot of outward pressure on the risers during the velo opening. Might this be slowing the opening down? -
The trike I want is the Carver... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPOkeJCiw9A&feature=related Bike? Car? Looks like great fun though.

Being able to land on your rears is something that many people suggest you should be able to do before downsizing your canopy... If you bust a brake line, having that skill saves you a reserve ride at the very least!

Pond is filled up at Lodi / Acampo Parachute Center!
yoink replied to 4dbill's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
That's a bit of a short sighted comment, Andy. There are lots of different sorts of swooping... Sure, it's probably not appropriate for competition canopies and pilots doing large turns, but how is it not suitable for jumpers just starting to swoop. 2500ft is ample time to enter a preplanned pattern and start an approach for double fronts or 90's under a medium loading on pretty much any canopy a novice swooper will be jumping. -
MALFUNCTION: what would you do if...?
yoink replied to tumbleroll's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Once again 'Twardo is spot on. The biggest concern is that you don't seem to understand why your answer is wrong before questioning your instructors. Was your answer based on 'that's what I do on a normal skydive', or did you actually think through the situation before answering? When you've sussed out the 'why's' in skydiving, then you can start making intelligent decisions. Until then, listen to your instructors. They know better than you - if you don't understand why they're advising something, ASK for an explanation! they'll be happy to help! -
Pond is filled up at Lodi / Acampo Parachute Center!
yoink replied to 4dbill's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I was just thinking that if I wanted to practice my admittedly novice swooping, maybe Lodi is the place to do it... I could make 4 hop n pops for the price of 1 at Perris. Maybe it's a 'learn at Lodi, master elsewhere' solution. I could get it nailed at a quarter of the cost. -
Anyone have a Video of someone swooping a Nitron or a Nitro?
yoink replied to gubitarr's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Having said that, he was quick on the cutaway... in a good way. Less experienced jumpers may have taken that even lower. If the OP hasn't grasped it yet: +1 for 'completely unsuitable' -

Time to start questioning the sibling. Hopefully it's all a bad practical joke.

Given that it was never built to hold anyone, I sure hope that the basket section is built separate to the helium.
-
Only if you know what material the skin is made out of. The last thing you'd want to do is poke a small hole in it that promptly turns into a 20ft rip because the material fails if there's a flaw in it... A giant harpoon gun aimed at the basket... YARR! Thar she blows!

Not for the kid if something goes wrong. They need to get some kind of tether to it. Maybe from the end of a rappel?
