  1. People need to not get bogged down in the bureaucracy of whay MAY or MAY NOT apply, based on the interpretations which MIGHT be applied by a 3rd party we can't do anything about. The bottom line is simple - As 'Twardo says - it's a non-too-subtle shot across the bows of skydiving... Are we heads up enough to take it and be able to say 'look - we recognise that we need to do something, so we're getting our shit in order.'?
  2. I love the curl-up-in-a-ball-in-the-corner strategy! FUCK THIS! *Goes foetal.
  3. "Most quotes I read on the Internet were never spoken by their supposed author." -Benjamin Franklin You can attribute it to King Kong if you'd like. The sentiment is still the same. Sorry, but all the celebrating for killing someone creeps me the hell out.
  4. It stopped being taught in schools after it was proven wrong more often than it was right!
  5. Posting the address from an anonymous username in the hope that someone else will actually do something with it based on nothing more than your word is the height of cowardice on your part and would be the height of stupidity on someone elses. I'm pretty sure the police know where he lives...
  6. That video still scares the bejeus out of me. I think it's the manaical laughter at the end that completes it.... that and the scream of 'Fuuuuck!' as the student pulls the rip cord.

  8. I want to see a GL canopy with it. More lift for the same surface area?
  9. Advice. It's only useful if you take it.
  10. Wear a jumpsuit, if only for when you blow a landing - which you will. Hot is uncomfortable, but not as bad as gravel shoved up your arse.
  11. Nonsense. The Argus ban was introduced as a result of a suspected design flaw. Even IF the ball was introduced at the factory, that's a completely different basis for an investigation and one that is not only far less likely to have repeatable results, but can be dealt with far differently. How about issuing an immediate 'thorough inspection notice for foreign objects in the cutter' for all Argus units, for example? It's also far more possible to change QC procedures at the factory. Both of these would have less dramatic results for the manufacturer. Saying the reason for the ban still stands is invalid.
  12. Firstly, don't worry about it! It takes hundreds of jumps if not thousands to get this stuff nailed in, especially in varying conditions.
  13. No. More can be learnt from discussing possible suspected failures as finding out the actual cause of an event. A thread discussing a fatality caused by a baglock could conceivably cover gear matching, packing issues, gear maintainance, deployment techniques and much more. Conversations can naturally spring from each of these. A report stlye would say "Baglock caused by misrouted bridle in pull-out rig". It's a much less valuable resource.
  14. I'm so confused. Are we still all talking about the same dealer - Karnage Krew? Because that's what this thread is supposed to be about. If it's a different dealer how about people start a different thread?
  15. Thanks for the extra info. In that case, I'd be suggesting to you that you're doing something that is inherently dangerous, and that you'd be adding more danger to that by jumping in something other than tip top shape. Does that really seem like a good idea? Until you're qualified the job of an instructor is to look out for you, and that's what they're doing. Believe me, it's not about holding you back - instructors love seeing students progress! There are other things you can be doing on the dz rather than jumping that your injury won't stop you doing. Learn to pack. Learn how all your gear works and how to do flightline checks. Just don't aggravate your injury more by pushing it. It'd suck to keep yourself out of jumping for longer than you need to!
  16. FWIW, for the UK the BPA Declaration of Fitness to Parachute form states that 'in the event of sickness abscence over 20 consecutive days, incapacitiating injury or confirmation of pregnancy, I willl cease to parachute until I have obtained medical certification.' Self certification doesn't cut it for injuries that have stopped you from jumping for more than 3 weeks. If it's only a few days though I'd give them the 'the sky isn't going anywhere, there'll always be other days to jump' speech if it's obvious they're still in pain and try to get them to ground themself. If they insist, then it's their call - you know the saying: If you're going to be stupid you'd better be tough. You don't say whether you're the instructor, the student, or a 3rd party - a pretty vital bit of info. If it's one of the latter two, and the student insisted that they were fine to jump and then hurt themself some more, well, they should suck it up and take it as a lesson not to be an idiot.
  17. they all were ~ and variable tension (0-22+++ Pounds) on the loop. That's the bit I didn't know! cheers
  18. As a practical matter, make sure you're comfortable landing in less than ideal areas, have recce'd the area thoroughly including alternate LZ's and have identified potential hazards that are a bitch to see from the air like power lines, telephone cables and less obvious stuff like heavily used public footpaths... nothing like a small child running out in front of you to see you land to wreck the whole plan! Make sure you know how to spot too... as well as how to safely exit the aircraft you'll be using. It's a good idea to make sure the pilot knows what to expect too...
  19. Are you not assuming that the test firing is done with a cable in place to verify clean severance? If clean severance was never a problem, isn't it more likely that they want to see that 100 / 100 fire when they are supposed to in regard to their activation perameters, and it's that which they look for?
  20. Here are some pics from this accident: https://viewer.zoho.com/docs/gbaAqg Thanks!
  21. Does anyone know if the photos from the Portugal report are publically available? I couldn't find them on the PIA site.
  22. Jesus Christ. Thousands of people dead or missing and we've got people arguing about the finer points of armchair-nuclear reactor theory, and the conspiracy theorists running loose. Way to step it up guys. Bravo. It's pretty much immaterial now, but Japanese authorities have just upped the magnitude from 8.8 to a 9.0... I don't think I've ever heard of an earthquake that strong.
  23. Demoing one before buying it in order to find out the flying characteristics might be an idea!
  24. It really, really isn't. Site selection, route planning, micrometerology and common good sense all play huge roles in speedflying, things that are often neglected by beginners. It's not just about picking the right gear and running off a hill. Will you be better off under a speedwing rather than a skydiving canopy? As a general rule? Yeah, probably; in just the same way that you could BASE with skydiving gear... simply having BASE gear doesn't make it that much safer though if you've no understanding of the basics...
