USPA Canopy Piloting Nationals 2008 - Colorado
frost replied to frost's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Well, i guess it's a good time to start that topic... Did you hear the bad news? It may not happen due to the Democratic National Convention in Denver... From USPA website: -
Finally, after about 15-20 tries, got a 180 rotation on a blindman. And a few other ones

Anybody has pics of this new wing?

good one! OP, what he said SoFPiDaRF - School of Fast Progress in Downsizing and Radical Flying. Because nobody knows your skills better than you.

I know exactly what you mean, i think we all do. I share all your concerns. But to me it's not just the safety issues, as valid as they are - I just dont have enough money to waste it on a zoo dive. For 25 bucks i want to have fun and dodging and chasing bodies in the sky is not it.

That's what i would expect, Chuck. Not much burble there even side mounted... I am very happy with HD, belly and back flying footage of the CX7. Feet down... not so much. But still, the camera rocks and with the simple little things like editing the clips on the fly and the ease of file transfers i am loving it.

guys there is an informative topic on this already. Please lets keep this discussion and all relative info there. Moderators, can you lock this thread or merge the topics? This is is a good relevant discussion, hate to see good info get lost in the multiple topics

I make no judgements ever, but wow. 500 jumps. I had 900 jumps when I started jumping a Katana 120. At 110 jumps I had a Spectre 170 and it gave me goose bumps. yeah, wow... i have close to 2900 jumps and i am only now THINKING of trying a Katana 120... OP's very aggressive canopy choice is pretty clear to everyone here, even himself. What can he do to avoid beefing it that hasn't been mentioned yet?

Do you use a packer with a full RDS?
frost replied to AggieDave's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Yes, but very rarely - only when the girl that packs for me at home is at a competition. She is a great packer as is and i explained to her how to pack a full RDS. Never with anyone else though. And of course i hook the RDS up and lay it down ready for her to pack. -
you *could* let natural selection take care of things. Or search for Bounce Bingo.

Just enough to create a small crater when he loses it It will take about 1.72 lbs. of lead (probably less) to fill an average tennis ball (calculated by volume/weight of ball/lead). From here you can use this:
-
At 75 jumps, you chose a very aggressive wingloading for your experience level. Now that you have survived 100 jumps with it, it would be unreasonable to expect you to upsize. I'd say continue on. Just dont get a smaller canopy for a while, use and try to stick with the ".1 for each 100 jumps" general rule. To get good coaching is probably the best thing you can do for yourself right now and it includes and covers pretty much all of the other suggestions given already.

How many jumps do you have on your OIS camcorder?
frost replied to frost's topic in Photography and Video
I just heard of a CX7 giving up after about 10 jumps, the service center said it was due to shaking, the circuitry didnt take it too well and failed. I am curious if this may be due to the OIS lens? It seems more likely then Sony electronics giving up due to skydiving - their cameras have proven themselves over the years. So the question is: If you have an OIS camcorder (CX7 hopefully), how many jumps do you have on it now? Any issues? I have about 10 jumps on my (new) CX7. No issues so far... -
you may consider something like this: http://www.tonfly.com/res/site15975/res286497_Grafica1.jpg More info can be found on http://www.tonfly.com There are other companies that make the adjustable quick releases like that one. Having said that, i use a Rawa helmet/box. In the box i have a PC1000, on top I have a Cookie Flat lock that i have used with a variety of cams (HC3, HC5, CX7 and a stills cam) for all kinds of flying. I never had issues with aiming.

Travelling To/From Moscow - Airline pops the reserve

Thanks Tom! I will print it out. I have the TSA doc also, but the officials there may not be able to read/speak English or they just might not care to. They are known for that. -

Wow.... I dont even read this and many other forums, but after I posted a question and you replied with an ignorant and arrogant answer (yet again), i had to go look at your profile. What can i say? you're pretty typical, nothing most of us havent seen before. 100 jump wonder with 2500 posts in one year. Knows slightly more then nothing, yet has a strong opinion on all things related to skydiving. Every once in a while people like you pop up on these forums. Arrogant and ignorant in their opinions, they seem slightly mentally unstable. I usually dont even reply - they'll disappear as quickly as they came. but I'll make an exception for you. It usually seems that way when you're mentally ill. Everyone is out to get you, everyone is trying to hurt you. Thats why there is PM so you can take any PERSONAL business to PERSONAL messages. Tell me though.... does that happen a lot to you? I asked you some valid questions: Why at your experience level wouldnt you jump an RSL? What kind of professional video set up that is prone to line snags do you jump? And i offered you to educate yourself and rethink the subject. Unfortunately, you wont consider that. Ignorance is bliss, because some 10000 jump man told you so. You know, you wouldnt have to apologize if only you would think before posting. But like most people of your kind you speak before talking. I am pretty sure my comments are wasted on you... -

Travelling To/From Moscow - Airline pops the reserve
frost replied to frost's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Some friends just recently came back from Russia. When they were returning home they were forced to pop their reserves by the local officials working for Delta Airlines. Anyone had a similar experience? Anyone came close to being forced to open their reserve but somehow avoided it? How? thanks in advance -
Anyone had a chance to see it/use it? Looks like a good deal at less then 400 bucks http://www.6ave.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=CANFS10 You can get a 5% off if you apply coupon code "AFL5" SoFPiDaRF - School of Fast Progress in Downsizing and Radical Flying. i see. So would you sayl that the fix corrected the shaking problem? What are the side effects on the camera? can you still use zoom? The lens aligned well with your method?
-
i can definitely see a difference. Video after the mod is better. But i dont think it's better to a point of being acceptable... Trunk, respect for working on it, testing it and posting it for us.

if there is water, we have to drag. Dont we?

Short reply: dont do it Longer reply: Dont do it or you WILL get slammed. Long reply: Seriously, dont do it. JVX NEEDS those ears to prevent the air from rushing into the canopy on opening. If you dont have them - it will slam you. Bad. Awhile back, when i just switched from VX96 to JVX87, I modified my VX RDS and put ears on it, just like the aftermarket JVX RDS. I only did 4 jumps with it... Right out the door was more or less OK, but at 4-5 second delays the openings with that slightly smaller VX slider EVEN modified like that were pretty bad... I didnt even dare take it to full speed. Hope that helps
