Head down with CX7 is excellent, there was never an issue. Everyone who is experiencing the shaking is seeing it in feet down position, where the camera is in the burble. Leaning backwards, as in doing tandem video with a wing suit remedies the issue. But for casual sitflying shaking seems to be a very big issue.

What are you going to offer on your site to make it different from about a billion of these same kinda sites out there?
-
Same here! Still miss it sometimes and see 850-900 as 1000 :) No doubt :)

One of our tandem video guys uses a CX7 in a sit position but with wings... According to him, he doesnt see much shaking with it or it's not that bad. He suggested that it may be the wings, the slower speeds... I am thinking may be the wings change the burble over the camera somehow? I'll talk to him again this weekend show him my footage and take a look at his...

Exactly the same set up here. I had the PC1000 on the side and CX7 on top of my Rawa. Same exact results. I doubt camera is broken, it's just how it is... HC3 had slight shaking in feet down too, but not as bad.

You probably read what i posted about my experience with CX7 in feet down position... i am going to test out the CX7 in various flying positions next weekend. I will try it with IS ON and OFF, with box and no box. I will also try to not attach the camera to the mount/box and just pad the insides of the box and secure it well. I will also try to pad the mounting plate so that it may absorb the vibration... It's a trial and error test, but what the hell? We'll see.

You are not alone. I've seen the shake on a top mounted CX7 with the OIS turned on. It only had a problem in a sit fly though. Head down and belly were good. Once I get a Cookie box, I'll be trying to sit with the OIS turned off. As far as other ideas, I'm at a loss. This weekend i tested the CX7 with a Cookie box in various positions. Terrible image shaking during feet down flying. Tested with IS turned OFF, haven't tried with it ON yet. But seems to me CX7 is a very poor choice for feet down flying.... I may will post a video sample later

what does the factory/dealer say?
-
Cookie flatlock adapter is not needed for top mounting it on Rawa's flat top.
-
Mine WAS mounted on top... so what do you think of the Century lens so far? Better then Royal for High Def?

Anyone know how to remove the hand strap from a CX7?
frost replied to Foster's topic in Photography and Video
Dont remove it, you never know when you might need it Cut the padding/velcro off, leave the bare minimum of a strap and stitch it together. It'll be thin enough to fit in the box. I have successfully modified my PC1000 and CX7 like that. No problems with fitting the first one in a Rawa box or second in the Cookie box. -
where are the tits?! What people said is true - it lasts only a short period of time on Sony production line. But who cares? PC1000 has been "obsolete" for what, 2 years now? Go try to buy even a used one for less then $600

How to fit Cam Eye 2 to RAWA helmet???
frost replied to darrenspooner's topic in Photography and Video
Do you REALLY need the cameye button functionality? What camera do you have? (most) Rawa boxes allow direct access to the camcorder button, why do you want to mangle your helmet to install another one? Get a Hypeye mini - it's brighter, smaller, cheaper, more solid and no drilling for the extra button -
I am very happy with a Cookie Flatlock. Light, thin, clean looking... and fits perfectly on top of my Rawa. I use it for a photo camera or for a second camcorder at the Nationals. In fact, i like it so much, i am going to install another one with an adapter on my FF helmet for a top mounted CX7.

I was very much surprised myself! I almost certain that i checked the tightness of the lens in the plane, as i usually do... but i cant be 100% sure, memory is a funny thing. So it's possible that it wasnt tight enough. Now the question is, if it *were* tight enough would this tear the camera up? It was a harsh opening... So may be by losing the 100 dollar lens i saved a 700 camera? hmm, i didnt think about that. :)

Top mounted on a Flat lock. No box at the time.

It definitely has a much higher snag factor. You can minimize the chances of that happening by putting your chin on your chest on opening, but it's not a guarantee - i do it all the time but, as i wrote in a neighboring thread, I had mine snapped off the camera on a bad opening last weekend. Has it been my Royal .5 - it would still be here. The awesome High Def 100 dollar Raynox 5050 is now somewhere in the field :)

Good info. How much do you think would you need to grind down to fit the Raynox lens? Too much? Before i was able to test the CX7 cookie box with a Raynox 5050, the lens got ripped off my camera by risers during a very shitty opening on the first jump of the day last weekend... oddly nothing on the camera was broken, the threads still in tact and not even a scratch... Any Royal or Liquid lens fit very well in the box and doesnt stick out much at all. Of course the HD irresolution suffers with that type of lense, but... Thats wrong. no doubt. Do this test. As you climb after take off, look out of the window and try to GUESS the altitudes, starting from 500 feet to say 6 grand. Check with your neptune or viso or even analog. You'll see how reliable your eyes are.

Yeah, sure. I dont think dependency on anything is a good idea. But what i was saying in that reply - "if it beeped and you're not there - dont turn", not "if it beeped - turn now". That's two different things, no? If one turns at the beep not looking around and not using his (hopefully) well trained sight picture and eyes - then he is setting himself up for a failure. And that's what this video illustrates. If one follows what i said - he will not turn, thus preventing a low turn. I guess that strategy wont prevent them all, but it will prevent a lot of them.
