jedei jedei swept wing (SW) jedei SW w/Eagle Trim (ET) These are a few that i know of and actually owned. But when they were making them each one was kinda different... You could request what you wanted on your Jedei and if you were not afraid to experiment - they would build it for you, I guess like the original Jonathan - always a work in progress

Why don't skydiver's like Vegas Style Tunnels?
frost replied to NewClearSports's topic in Wind Tunnels
you're a very sad person... instead of posting private messages on a public forum, use your own advice - grow up P.S. In 8 years of being on this forum you've logged only about 1100 jumps, but nearly 22000 posts, almost 20 times as many as you jumps! 8 per day! Go jump. Why don't skydiver's like Vegas Style Tunnels?
frost replied to NewClearSports's topic in Wind Tunnels
Is there something about working in a windtunnel that causes people to get into other people's business, gossip and bicker on public forums? Must be the wind... -
Cross Keys Swoop Club Returns on Thursdays
frost replied to FFAdventures's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
i'll be there too, mr pro swooper sir! -
So what is the cost of a tandem HD video, how much on top of a regular video? How much of that difference goes to the operator/equipment owner? Is the price lower if customer chooses to get it on a regular DVD vs. a BD?
-
Really?! i thought it was some of the scariest old school shit i've ever seen. :) Please dont try to swoop like him.

I like your idea, but why two and three? And why no restrictions on weight/wing? it will become a little dangerous and somewhat unfair - especially if someone will bring a powered paraglider :)) And also will render the results of such comp useless as far as FAI/IPC/records or what have you. But the idea is excellent, the current scheme of things (Speed, Distance, Accuracy) is a little dated, we need something fresh. How about a trial run of "Distance Only" comp right AFTER the CPC/PST/Nationals? The reason why AFTER is because you will have lots of pilots there and they will be current with lots of practice jumps at Mile Hi, used to that altitude. You will also have all the judges on hand to log a record should one be established. Make it a 4 jump comp - two each way as you suggested. Count total or single longest run. Unlimited jumps? i dont think staff judging such a comp will like to be there all weekend :) Use FAI/IPC regulations on weight and course set up. I think even if it's not official, it would be a lot of fun - sign me up :)

Did the search button break?

Thank you for the pics. Interesting idea! But with 12(!) points of attachment (3 per ring) it's probably gonna take a while to hook it up correctly every time, even with practice... I still mess up my ParaConcepts RDS every once in a while, and that one only has 8 points :) In my mind, MEL/Joe's style RDS is perfect as far as ease of hook up, but PC RDS is better for ring/slider stability. Both work well though and get the job done.

Although it wasn't as smooth as everyone hoped, another great FLCPA event is in the books. 21 pilots showed up. FLCPA meets continue to be the biggest and best ran canopy piloting events in the country. So far I got only unofficial results, but the top 3 positions are: 1. "Loud" Dan McAllister 2. Pete "Mr. Proswooper Sir" Schwartz 3. "Uncle Chris" Watkins. Congrats Dan, that distance run rocked bro. The weather was against us Friday and Saturday. High winds and rain didnt allow any practice jumps for most of the competitors. Those who got to the DZ for Friday practice ended up playing Xbox 360 and poker. But a few were smart enough to get there Thursday, when the weather was still good and they were able to make a few jumps. Comp weather day was Sunday. It was still dark when we got to the DZ at 7 AM with plans for 7:30 wheels up. The plane was iced up and we had to wait for an hour an a half. Then we had some issues with the flap that pushed us back another hour, with just a small Cessna running. Then it was fixed and we were back to a Caravan... Then the flap broke again :) But we kept flying :) with less people, of course - the pilot was on top of his game. There were two accidents that luckily didn't result in any major injuries, but took the pilots out of the competition... As a competitor i just wanted to say a couple of "thank you's" to the folks that helped make this and other events possible. Thanks to Al for organizing another great event. It was as smooth, professional and fun as always. Thanks to Brian McNenney for coaching - i know he'd much rather be flying himself, but he spent his day watching us fly and helping with advice. Thanks to the judges and Brian for helping us out of towners make as many rounds as possible since we had to fly back and had to leave early missing the last event - Accuracy. Thanks to Art (DZO) for being very accommodating and doing everything to help us too. Your pilot rocked and did everything to make competitors' runs and separations perfect..

Pizzle, i am replying to your post but it's not directed at you, more of a general reply, ok?... The bigger guys that have tried flying in the weaker tunnels know what i am trying to say. The skygod-like sarcastic replies from instructors with 16 years of experience are irrelevant, so i'll just ignore those. For the rest of us - people with moderately decent flying skills, who pay their hard earned cash for tunnel time to get better my point should be clear. One can agree or disagree with my opinion, it doesnt really matter. If creating obstacles and then working hard to overcome them is your thing - then by all means, fly in weaker tunnels with baggy suits, spend your time and money on becoming a better tunnel flyer. In the end, you probably will be better flyers then others and my respect goes out to you without a doubt - for your dedication and effort. I, on the other hand, would rather learn quicker, easier and faster in a strong tunnel. Why the extra effort? Work smart, not hard. Am i mistaken in my opinion? Are you mistaken in yours? How about this: you do what you do, i'll do what i do and it's all good.

I care. I am still "just learning". And i want to learn in a quality environment. Newer flyers who want to learn properly and efficiently should care too. If you weigh >200 lbs you'd be wasting your time and money trying to do quality freefly (or even RW) in weaker tunnels like SVO or Las Vegas or this new windtunnel without super baggy suits and making it harder to learn properly. May be SVO is stronger now, i dont know, but when i was there 5-6 years ago trying to sit was a pain and i was wearing TWO of their suits. I was bouncing up an down on the net. Point is: You want to have an amusement ride? Cool! here is your thing. Not putting it down, it just isnt for me, i wouldnt spend money there. You want to have a tunnel where you can actually learn to fly your body? Make the trip to NH or NC or another strong wind tunnel.
-
So this is going to be a Las Vegas style tunnel... How much value for a training skydiver can a tunnel like this really have? This is an amusement ride at best, not a serious training tool.
-
I am all out of batteries that can be used as altimeters... but i do have an extra neptune! :) I am sure he already tried replacing a battery ;)
-
Competition in making up excuses? Ian is good, no doubt. But i would put my money on me in that comp.

I'll lend you one of mine for two cold Coronas :)

Best landing surface?? Grass, Pea gravel or sand?
frost replied to skygeezer's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Sand is best for me personally - helps stop and softens the impact when I stand up a zone. Now for my canopy's sake it may a different story. I dont want any sand in the cells. Definitely grass :) -
We're talking about just a slider, not full RDS, right? I think the biggest benefit of a removable slider is how it improves your field of vision under canopy. You will be surprised at how much easier it is to look around. But if you have a standard length (short) chest strap, you probably wont see much of a difference in flight characteristics. And even if you have a long chest strap, an RS wont help you go 100 feet further :) It is not very difficult to pack a canopy with a removable slider, but there are some things to keep an eye on at first. Like hooking it up correctly :) But all these things will become second nature after a few dozen pack jobs. Although, I do make an occasional mistake hooking it up (even after 1500+ jumps with it) :) But these are easy to spot and fix. It also adds a couple of minutes to your pack job, so if you do lots of back to backs and sometimes have a sloppy packer - you may benefit from using regular set up. If you're a weekend fun jumper you probably dont need it, but thats your choice.

I guess JP's (diablopilot) reply escaped some people... That wikipedia entry about him inventing atmonauty is someone's joke (it wasn't me, JP). In case someone doesn't know - Wikipedia is a free content encyclopedia, written collaboratively by volunteers from all around the world. Which basically means ANYBODY can post pretty much anything there. That is why posting wiki links as an indisputable proof is ignorant :)

Aw.. i appreciate it, but in no way am i offering any scientific explanations in that quote :) I am still trying to digest physics formulas and the words of well respected scientists that clearly point to presence of lift and my own long time thinking that human bodies don't generate lift (in it's classical understanding - smooth surfaces and all). Hard to explain... i guess my heart agrees with fedykin, but my brain definitely agrees with science :) And that is exactly why i would love to know his own aerodynamics and physics expertise and see that info on NASA study of skydivers. Still waiting :)
