  1. Which is probably why we'll never known peace in the Middle East? Until religion is out of their governments... Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  2. Every person alive is a risk taker as there is a risk associated in doing/not doing everything. Knowing the risks and accepting them prior is the issue, not the actual taking of them. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  3. So it's up to their government to make laws to enforce that? Religious culture (beyond basic morality) is a horrible basis for a government. Thankfully we have far more separation of church and state here. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  4. The guy's a dick but that's not a criminal offense, nor should be. I've heard of impersonating an officer being a crime. But impersonating a jew? Oy vey. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  5. Targeting DZ packers for unreported income isn't going to make much of a dent in the deficit. Targetting? No. Including in a larger plan that goes after all tax evaders does make sense as it shows consistency. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  6. How does the gov't giving people money it doesn't have stimulate the economy? Seems like unemployment is turning into the new welfare... Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  7. Not anymore, last year was the end of The Richmond Boogie. Not surprised but still sad to hear. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  8. 36 hours until I retire!!! WOOHOOO! Good thing there is free beer for an old guy on a fixed income!! Congrats!!! If only we had some Belekin or One Barrel to celebrate properly. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  9. Hopefully this doesn't catch on. http://www.spiritair.com/Policiesbags.aspx#CarryOnBag Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  10. I know! I'm totally bummed, I had my PJ's picked out and everything! We are hoping to at least make it back for the Saturday night party since the wedding is local. But we are both in the wedding so we will see how that works out. I'm just surprised ya'll even talk to people who'd get married on a summer weekend anymore. Hope you two are doing great.
  11. This article is about using regulations, grants, and specific taxes (not just income) to unevenly dictate supply and demand inconsistently. It also mentions that both parties are doing this and this is why bills and regulations are so much longer now. You should read it. 12. I don't think. I know. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  13. I define professional environment as any place or interactions where one is being paid for their services. Do I need to know to do my job that my coworker practices a certain religion? Does he/she need to know similar thngs about me? No. Pleasantries are nice, but not necessary. To me not all those are professionalism, most are gamesmanship. 14. I don't agree. Even among peers in the workplace, there is no reason for it nor is it constructive in any way. Agreed. In a professional environment, all should keep it as such.
  15. Glacier and beach jumps in one boogie would be unique.
  16. Just posting this as he may have missed it. Does this equate to Tandem Masters boning their young tandem students??? I think it does. Start paying TMs what professors make and then we'll talk... Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  17. Well goodie! You DO know that if you go full nude you get a free jump? Who am I to pass up a free jump? I may need to warn him about getting a contract. "Since none of the other girls..." 18. More due to advances in technology such as airbags vs the police revenue source tickets bring in. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  19. Fixed it. Additionally neither will BSRs always work. There are going to always be those that die or get injured no matter what the "rules" are. One dropzone I was at a few years ago there were 3-4 new dudes that I pegged as DGITs and purposely didn't get to know them for a while for that reason as they were hard headed, cocky, but with some insane natural talent. They survived the curve though. I think we need to stop trying to "scare" these new jumpers, but lay out the facts and the possible consequences. Is it a bad idea? Yes. Is it certain death? No. Spot, I do appreciate all you've done and continue to do as well as given to and for this sport, but thinking BSRs that some dropzones don't enforce because S&TA's don't have any real authority to do so is the answer and will save everyone from themselves... 20. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02-nmFTo_XA A classic. 2:39 in.
  21. That can be the correction for that person and then as an example for others. The biggest problem with stupidity is we continue to try and "treat" it. It's called free will. People can try to stop them but its not always effective. Unless they see or their ego lets them admit to the error of their ways stopping them beforehand does not mean they'll thank you later nor should gratitude even be a reason one does it. Should we try and stop them? Sure. Friends, family, the local dropzone can try. Must we stop them at a national level? No, nor is is possible or reasonable to think we can "save everyone." Agreed. What's one of the first skills we learn? Relax. Don't try to hurry as it's only counter productive. This applies to all aspects of skydiving as well as what we're discussing here: camera flying, downsizing, wingsuiting.
  22. If only Dems and libs all would understand this of themselves Fixed.
  23. That's not being disputed that they may be right, what the study shows is even when wrong... As generally the more highly educated are running government and industry the 90% figure is nice but the 10% figure scares me as that shows an inabilty or refusal to learn from mistakes because they refuse to acknowledge them. How often do we see gov't and industry continue to do the same thing to solve issues that has failed repeatedly in the past? Maybe there's another reason we're constantly lowering the bars for "success" and "winners." Possibly because whomever was behind the program that was supposed to "fix" whatever can't admit they were wrong. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  24. So does the opposite hold true? Highly educated intellectuals will never admit when wrong? Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  25. Do you not think Dan or those like him would just break the BSR? Perhaps fudging jump numbers to do so? If the USPA recommendation and the advice of other instructors didn't stop him, you think a rule would? With this new BSR and it's requirements: * What happens to the wingsuit "student" and instructor if the student knowingly has under 200 jumps? * What if the "instuctor" or instuctor only verbally asked? * What if the "student" faked their logbook? You talk of punitive opportunities. Do you really think in the case of Dan the USPA could really do anything to that "instructor" worse than has already happened? He's the one that has to live with what happened, as well as other's judgement for the rest of his life. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
