  1. Get government out of marriage. Either get rid of the marriage benefits for all or extend them to anyone requesting them as civil unions. Remove the word marriage entirely from government. IF people choose to get married, it can be strictly a religious thing and have 0 ties to government. What, who, or how consenting adults conduct their relationships should not be the governments concern. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  2. Devaluing the dollar to pay off the debt? That'd certainly piss off any foreign investors. Would certainly lead to more entirely US made products as foreign items would be insanely expensive. Here ya go China, here's that $3 trillion we owe ya. Of course it's now only worth what used to have been $3 billion. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  3. So if the spending cuts ended or were nullified by later bills, the tax increase ended? Hmmm... I think the concern is that even if the bill went through as one and was approved, the tax increases would stay but the spending cuts would seemingly dissipate rather quickly. 4. The problem with your approach is it's way too drastic so is just too much of a shock that it will just be ignored as "the problem is just too big." You don't just take a heroin junkie off smack, drastically change their diet, give them a full makeover and an important high stress job all at once and expect everything to work. We're credit junkies, it's gonna take more of a rehab approach. Step 1. Get all politicians and voters to agree that there is a problem and all will need to make sacrifices to address. Step 2. Start trimming the fat from the budget AND the tax code. Step 3. Start cutting all programs x% as well as increasing taxes on all y%. Step 4. Going department by department, see which ones are redundant, which could be self sufficient, which could be privatized, and which could possibly be revenue generators. The military would definitely fall into this third category, those companies that are directly profiting from military presence in certain non US areas keeping things stable enough for them to do business should be paying for that. The TRUTH

I'm still wondering how accurate statistics can be gathered on something nonreported. Sadly I do know quite a few women that were assaulted or raped and not one of them reported it. Women if actually assaulted/raped should go to the hospital and press charges every time as well as publicly villify anyone that reports a false rape. Anything that a woman wears/does prior to an assault/rape does not excuse a rapists actions. 7. While I am somewhat annoyed at the increase. NetFlix and Hulu Plus is still under $30 a month total so far less than satellite/cable. I may drop their streaming as I haven't been watching it lately. All the really good stuff still seems to be DVD/BluRay. Rantoul would have us back. I believe Don is standing in the way of someone else doing it. There will never be another event like the convention. The sport has changed. The "no set landing direction except in the main landing area" these days would cause some people to probably stroke out. 9. I think yours was worse as staph infections can be deadly. He should have told you, regardless of if his doctpr thought it was contagious. Granted drug deals can go bad and if they were making meth at her place too... Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  10. I don't get the point of hiding someone's updates. If you don't like what or how often they say things, just unfriend them cuz if you hide their updates, the only way to see what's up with them is go to their profile which are you really going to do if they annoyed you enough to block them? 11. FIFY Exactly. Businesses don't pay taxes: their customers pay them. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  12. Speak of the misinformation boogeyman and there he is. GE *did* pay taxes in 2010. Not as much as they ordinarily would have, due to the losses at GE Capitol, but they *did* pay taxes. They probably offset some additional taxes by making charitable donations, like most companies. Those bastards. How dare they give money direct to programs helping people without running it through the gov't first. 13. Agree to profiling far more than just skin color but it seems as if even including it as a possible criteria these days isn't allowed. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  14. Me too. One post and done! I'm proud of myself. And I remember all of you bad influences. Amazon: I am no longer a professor! I RESIGNED! Haven't had a headache since I quit. Jumping/rigging full time and enjoying life. See you guys on a DZ somewhere! Jump I figure you'd resign to dance. Or were your hips lying? 16. Sorta like going through a metal detector or having bags searched before being allowed to enter: * a sporting event or concert at a venue? * a federal or state building such as a courthouse? * a high security corporate building? I completely agree that the TSA checks are ridiculous, but not because they don't have the rights but how pointless most of them are. To me this is a much more effective and relevant argument and should be the focus. My biggest issue with the backscatter machines is they're far slower than the traditional scanners. 18. _______________________________________ Ron wants to put security in the hands of the airline, not the airport and that is the whole point with the free market that America has... I could always go fly another airline. So each airline you flew would have its own security? If you switched airlines on a layover would you have to go through different security? That doesn't make sense. It's simple: The airport provides the security (private or TSA) as part of its services and just include that in what they charge the air carrier per gate, fuel, takeoff and landing, etc. The air carrier then adjusts prices accordingly. No more TSA fee per ticket. The eventual goal would be to privatize TSA and/or make them at least self sufficient. 20. To elaborate... the problem with the analogy is that you don't go to school to get grades, you go to school to get an education. If you were to audit a class and do all the same coursework/studying as if you were enrolled, you won't get a grade but you'll learn the same stuff. The grade is just a measuring stick of what you're getting out of the class, it's like a receipt. In contrast, you go to work for money. Social programs redestribute money not a measuring stick of how much money you got out of having worked. You don't collect up the receipts for all the cool stuff wealthy people are able to buy and give them to poor people, that'd be completely asinine. If the analogy was an announcement that there were plans to redistribute "learning" then it would at least sort of work, but that's nonsensical, this isn't The Matrix. Grades in themselves are not a finite resource. They are simply a measure of quality. If 100 people do a great job and get A's that has no impact on the grade's value. If 10 do a great job, 30 do average, 40 below average and 20 poor and they still all get A's the value of the grade is basically nullified. I f you get average grades you will not be going to Harvard or Yale or any of the other elite schools who look very close at your grades and you will not have the earning potential a Harvard Grad would have... nice try True but good grades at a school with low or no stnadards for their grading scale isn't going to get you in there either. 22. If such a single bill or budget were created that cut spending and raised taxes within it, I'd be for that. Is that even possible? The first step by all (politicians and the voters) needs to be a mindest change from spend to pay down. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  23. And Congress currently looks at any additional income as justification to spend even more. Who said anything about targeting one group? We all need to be effected by both the cuts AND the tax increases that follow. True but also need to make sure some aren't still ordering more. Some "dining and dashing" is bound to happen, but at least they won't be exacerbating the problem. 24. The pitch blackness, the lake, and hearing the wolves all are amazing experiences too. O, you'll love meeting and jumping with Mad John too.
  25. If you were in the market for a new AAD, would $44 help out? 44 *cents* might be insignificant, but $44B is 3.5% of $1.3T...a small but significant dent. Blues, Dave But unless the attitudes change that extra $44B in revenue would likely be used to justify $60B or more worth of new programs or expansions of existing ones. Hell, congress tried to spend the leftover and paid back TARP money. There has to be a mindset change to paying down the debt and big budget cuts BEFORE they raise taxes.
