  1. So what you're saying is they're either reformed and don't want to look like a thug anymore or aren't reformed but are trying to avoid dressing suspiciously. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  2. You hit the nail on the head. People take offense to being suspected versus just taking actions to eliminate themselves as a suspect either proactively or reactively. If you're Black don't walk the streets. Or you will be eliminated. Criminal thugs tend to dress a certain way, perhaps not wear the same things? They also act a certain way towards authority figures, perhaps not act that way? Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  3. You hit the nail on the head. People take offense to being suspected versus just taking actions to eliminate themselves as a suspect either proactively or reactively. It's sort of like when police show up in riot gear and people start rioting "just to show them." All they're doing is showing the police they were right. 4. So if someone treats someone else as suspicious and questions them the person being questioned has the right to beat them up and the other person at that point can't defend themselves? Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

  6. Inconsistent data as can't compare people in a sport to number of times doing an activity. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  7. Not to belittle other stay at home spouses, but a military spouse, particularly at officer level is a fulltime job, especially during deployments. Added In a 2 parent household, the standard costs of working should be added to the daycare cost to see if it even makes sense economically. Too many are probably only breaking even or losing money by being a two income household. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.
  8. In case you haven't noticed, both parties regularly lie, increase the size of government, and build on the debt. Despite the seeming hopelessness of it, voting still has some small value in that it gives us a tiny range of choice we can use to vote tactically. the problem we have is all those that vote for candidates that promise and deliver on free stuff, the government has been giving so much free stuff that it is broke. Motor voter laws may be the cause of this,, it used to be you had to make an effort to get registered to vote. 10. Even if all on the same wingloading, people fly their canopies differently so speeds would still be different. That is unless we somehow disabled front and rear risers, harness input, and limited toggle turning ability. At that point, might as well go back to rounds. 11. Only met Howard in person once at Jumptown. He's a character.
  12. Ever plane out of a high speed turn at 50 feet? It takes almost as much skill to manage the resulting deceleration and surge on a sub-100 canopy to not smash your ass into the ground as it does to not auger yourself in in the first place. I understand why DZOs don't want people swooping around. It's not worth it to cater to the 1-200 of us that compete regularly. However, taking away the pond and not banning swooping is all but stupid imho. Removing a safety device and still allowing the discipline is contradictory at best, negligent at worst. (Perris went all the way, though I can kill myself on a 90 just as easily, so I am still not sure what they are solving) Limit the canopies people can fly, the wingloadings people can fly until a proper progression/time/experience has occurred. Limit swooping on regular loads. Require dedicated passes for HP canopy work. We obviously cannot regulate ourselves anymore, and it SEVERELY pains me to say that. This is the start to limiting open canopy fatalities. /my $0.02, worth what you paid for it. We had a Western Region S&TA meeting at Skydive San Diego. Bryan Burke spoke about Skydive AZ incidents over the last decade. Due to excellent data, it is now known that 90 only patterns lead to fewer incidents. The fewer the turns, the fewer traffic/landing incidents. One of the many reasons Perris went to the 90 only rule, IMHO. Some seriously flawed logic there. Of course if you ban high performance landing turns over 90 degrees, you're going to have fewer high performance landing incidents. Similar logic: A bar decides to only sell 2 drinks to a person per night. Of course they'd see less drunken incidents. Some people would choose to go elsewhere. And Wildcard: It's defeatist attitudes like that that are part of the problem. Education, not regulation is the answer. USPA has made steps to educate on canopy control more, but it's too soon to tell if it's working or not. All that said, while I disagree with the DZ's decisions, their yard, their rules.
  13. Simple. We shouldn't be telling everyone skydiving is safer than driving a car because it's bullshit. We've done ourselves a great disservice downplaying the risk. Anyone who thinks driving swooping out of the USPA will solve this is deluded. If this happens, a precedent will be set that anything "dangerous" can be driven out.
  14. One could also have an all cash under the table job and still collect unemployment, allowing them to double dip. This would be further disincentive not to get a "real" job. Step 1, Stop calling it unemployment, call it transition. Step 2. Pay the same benefits regardless of future employment. Stop "punishing" those that get another job. They could even do a lottery style system where if one had a job, they could elect to take a reduced amount of their remaining benefits as a lump sum. 15. All of these are conditional regardless of being state or federal mandates. If one does not want to be subjected to it, they can just not do what is being regulated. Don't want to pay taxes? Don't make any money, buy anything, or own anything. Don't want to buy car insurance? Don;t own a car. Don't want to be searched by the TSA? Don't travel. Etc. etc, There are ways to avoid it totally. The problem with this is the condition is life itself. Very few laws/regulations are mandated just off a person being alive. Immunizations is the only one I can think of right now but sure there are others but NONE of those require one to buy a product based on the sole condition that they're alive. I can't see this mandate being ruled constitutional. In my mind the only question is how much or if all of the rest of it goes away. 16. I've known him for years and flown with him many a time. My girlfriend and I were staying at the same hotel as him for the boogie. He took her for her first balloon ride last year. When I was loading my gear into the car for a late start Friday afternoon saw him out in the grass next to the parking lot packing his rig. We started chatting and I found out he was packing to loan his rig to a friend and he had just gotten them back from you.. He mentioned he had his knees replaced over the summer and did some skiing this winter to test them. We talked about skydiving, skiing, and just life in general. Ed being Ed would have kept talking for hours but I was wanting to get to the DZ to jump which he sensed so we ended our conversation, both assuming we'd chat later. Blue Skies Forever Ed and so sorry for your family's loss. Hopefully the fact he not only died a hero doing something he loved brings some comfort.
  17. Defeatist attitude. Software companies do this all the time. As new vulnerabilities are discovered, they make updates to eliminate them. It's the offender, and the system. Just because you can't create a perfect system, doesn't mean it shouldn't be constantly enhanced to make it harder to exploit. It all starts with standardizing and streamlining processes and eliminating loopholes when found. Incorporate monitoring said processes for compliance and enforcement. Set base penalties high enough that even if settled, all possible gains (monetary or otherwise) are eliminated. 18. Bullshit. That's exactly what the focus should be. In Madoff's and similar cases freeze and sell off ALL assets of him, his family, partners, as well as all profits from anyone who proffited, whether they knew what was going on or not. Any future assets would then be scrutinized and any deemed gifts or from previously unknown sources would be seized. Only newly earned money would be allowed. Jailtime is not really a concern for these people. Financial and status ruinment of all involved and seizure of all profits is far better justice and does not cost taxpayers additional money. 19. NOOOO!!!!!!!! WAY too hot of a corset to torch it! Give it to me if you dont want it! I'll wear it! I'll trade you something else to torch if you want to flame something He could always donate it to the DPH corset collection, or who knows, he may decide after wearing it he wants to keep it. 20. GPA, SAT's, Extracurriculars, and perhaps an essay is all an admissions department needs. Gender, socioeconomic status, race, location, even their name aren't needed to make an unbiased decision. Perhaps if we start the common sense in academia, it can filter to the rest of society so we can truly end racism and sexism. 21. I think you mean dissing you for it again.
  22. I am not in favor of of affirmative action, my point is that the way the trend is going, Asians will soon be in the vast majority at the UC system. Blacks and Hispanics are now pissed at the Asians. Yep. The key thing is it's not their fault, again... 23. So, I shouldn't bring my kilt then? Kilts are optional. Dropping trou is just as effective. I can pretty much guarantee one of the two, if not both... repeatedly. I'm just wondering if Bolas is gonna show up or not... We'll see. Stupidity if left untreated is self-correcting If ya can't be good, look good, if that fails, make 'em laugh.

  25. Which is a good idea, however, if we pulled out, every oil tanker coming through the North Arabian Gulf would get hijacked. The Somalis would love it. They could make BILLIONS!!!! Plus, we still need that oil, especially when projects like the keystone pipeline keep getting shot down. Once again, novel idea, but scores low on the practicality scale. So they either use another route, hire their own protection, or pay the US military to do so...
