  1. I loved "the Village" (because it could happen) and the "I see dead people" movie (I forget what it was called) but hated Signs and this one.
  2. When I was a packer, I refused to close pullouts because I did not fully understand them. I would pack for you but the closing was up to the owner. I never had a complaint. Mark Klingelhoefer
  3. Nervous is completely different than affraid. I have been nervous lots of times. I can only think of 2 jumps I was truely affraid on, and neither involved a cutaway. Both of these jumps where after I had 400 jumps. Mark Klingelhoefer
  4. After you finish AFF (and you don't have the "I'm taking a test and being graded" feeling) and get to do solos, part of it will go away, but it will be replaced by "there's no one here to save my ass if I screw up" for a few jumps. The jump I was most nervous for was my first jump off AFF (with no radio). I had confidence in myself in freefall, but I was not sure I had the "canopy thing" down and was not confident in my ability to "fly the pattern", but everything went very well and I landed within 30 feet of where I was planning on landing. Nerve still exist for certain types of jumps. When I was videoing teams at Nationals, I had the "I hope I don't screw anything up" kind of nerves. I had the same thing when I was attending Bigway Headdown camps. So long story short, I don't think the nerves "go away", they just change. Mark Klingelhoefer
  5. What were your duties as Treasurer? Simply as the title said, I was one of the few people that treasured them. To quote Dictionary.com "5. to regard or treat as precious; cherish."
  6. When I was jumping down in Titusville, they had the IBTC (Itty Bitty Titty Committee) and I was the treasurer. That's how I like em'.
  7. Just a little explanation for the picture. As the RSL travels away from your body, the pin is pulled. While this happens, the non-RSL side riser is cutaway (if it is still there) by the loop in the RSL and the split housing (exposing the cutaway cable). Hope this helps. Ihr Willkommen, Mark Klingelhoefer
  8. I am beginning to think I should have asked this question in General rather that Gear and Rigging. The crowd over here tends to be a lot more "heads up" than your average skydiver. I know I had No Clue what a Collins Lanyard was before I went to work for Bill. Mark Klingelhoefer edited for spelling (again)
  9. Please NEVER do this. Nathan Gilbert was a fantastic guy who was one hell of a flier (under canopy and in freefall) and died by trying to "help someone out" by catching their cutaway, and he paid the ultimate price for it. It might seem like the "nice" thing to do but I think that everyone that knew Nate would have prefered him to not do the last "favor" he ever was able to do. We miss you Nate. Mark Klingelhoefer
  10. That would be a question to ask directly to SunPath. Mark Klingelhoefer
  11. I've seen one rather recently (below the RSL) and if it stops one person from having a reserve/Main entanglement, I think it an important piece of equipment to have available. Mark Klingelhoefer
  12. I'm not a Hughes fan at all and would love to see him retire after loosing to Sera (or anyone else).
  13. I don't personally process the risers recieved here, however, I have personally seen one pair about a month ago because I was answering some other questions for that customer. I have only been working here for about 4 years, and for 1 1/2 years of that time, I was doing raw materials inspection, for one year, I was on the road with our demo/boogie program. In the 1 and 1/2 years I've been in customer service, I have personally seen one set. Mark Klingelhoefer UPT
  14. So are you saying that broken 2a sheething from a flip through 3 ring does not happen? I personally have seen one this year. This caused a riser failure and subsequent reserve deployment. Or if a container is mis-rigged and the loop is put through 2 rings rather than one, this can cause a 2a loop failure. We have seen this also. The riser does not have to break to cause the RSL side riser to separate from the container while the other riser is still connected. I am simply saying that the UPT system addresses the issue, and was asking if the Mirage system addresses it. This discussion should not be compared to the nasty backstabbing going on in the AAD market. As a skydiver I am just wondering how their system deals with these issues if they chose not to incorporate the Collin's lanyard into their system. I know that the SkyHook incorporates it. I am also educating the skydiving world on the Collin’s Lanyard’s benefits because I am sure that not all the skydiving world understands them. Mark Klingelhoefer United Parachute Technologies
  15. Before reading this post, do you understand the benefits of a "Collin's Lanyard"? A Collin's Lanyard simply ensures that the non-RSL side riser is disconnected in the case of the release of the RSL side riser. In the case of a riser release on the RSL side, as the riser leaves the container, it pulls the reserve pin. The Collin's Lanyard simply cuts away the non-RSL side riser as the RSL side riser leaves. If the RSL side riser releases without a Collin's Lanyard, the reserve will deploy into the main canopy that is still attached to to non-RSL side riser. 16. Er, nope. Funny, when Bill explained it to me, the theory is the lack of mesh is supposed to help "right" the P/C sooner, but it doesn't "inflate" while on it's side. That would be physically impossible. The air flowing into it (righting itself) is the beginning of the inflation. The mesh just bleeds air, whereas the meshless holds the air, thus righting it and speeding up the inflation.
  17. Along with the strongest spring on the market, the meshless pilot chute (on your UPT Container) will properly inflate when sideways where the mesh pilot chutes will bleed air until upright. Mark Klingelhoefer United Parachute Technologies
  18. Does anyone know how this system handles an RSL side only breakaway due to mis-rigging, Flip Through, or a broken riser? The SkyHook addresses this problem with the integrated Collin's Lanyard, which ensures the non-RSL side riser is cutaway as the RSL side riser leaves the container. This avoids having the reserve deploy into the main canopy that is still attached to the non-RSL side riser. How does the DRX system handle these scenarios? 19. Sounds like a job for "Scarey" Perry.
  20. First "Handy Cam Jump"? One of the first tandem jumps.
  21. I agree with the unusualy number of breaking because of "lack of action", and what the hell was with the stoppage in the first fight. That sucked.
  22. Looks to me like Bill Booth over Deland. Don't know when, and as for the why, looks like someone wanted to do a tandem. Mark Klingelhoefer
