    Focus

I think you're right here. If it's a two element lens (like Raynox 5050) you usually want to focus to infinity... if it's single element like Century .55x, or a Royal Lens, you want to autofocus on something 15 feet away, and then lock it at manual. This has been my experience at least. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  2. Yet another year in paradise. Flocking over the island with new and old birds alike. Watch in HD Enjoy!
  3. There is no thrust in gliding... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  4. +1 It's about like ordering brand new gear with a 280 sq ft canopy in it, before you even finish AFF. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  5. Needs "giggity" head-bob action. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  6. Usually my videos have chickens at the beginning (I'm not sure why). For the 3.0 video, I had monkeys at the beginning instead (I'm not sure why). For the 5.0 video, I will have ponies at the beginning, and for once I know why. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. Videos from previous Flock & Dock events... if you're still on the fence about coming. Z-Flock 4.0 (HD) (March 2008) Z-Flock 3.5 (HD) (October 2007) Z-Flock 3.0 (March 2007) Z-Flock 2.5 (September 2006) Z-Flock 2.0 (April 2006) www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  8. No, it's not. I still fly mine pretty regularly. This entire video was captured wearing an S3... if it was a twitchy suit, the video should be twitchy too. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. Hell, between this and the CX100, that is two cameras I've learned about in the past week that I just cannot say no to. Incredible. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. I'm calling you Schorb from now on... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  11. Here's a demonstration for you. Tell me which suit you are referring to by "certain suits," and I'm pretty sure I can show you a photo of that suit being flown in a flock. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  12. Every suit made right now can be flown in a large flock. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. Do whatever you think looks best. "Cool" comes from inside. The original post sounds tongue-in-cheek, but the poll suggests it's serious. EDIT: Look at my avatar (or click the link in my sig to see it larger). My helmet, rig, wingsuit, and canopy all match. And what's more... they match the sky! (blue/white) www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. What browser are you using? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  15. Haha, I was gonna say. They're pretty "unlocked." And even if I had put any effort into "locking" them... you can always download ANYTHING that you are viewing, including Youtube or Vimeo or even HDTV with HDCP, if you know how. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. Do you seriously mean to imply that Jarno doesn't "do things" for the WS community? How about... like edit the very video we're discussing now? Thanks for my laugh of the week. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. You don't have to exit fullscreen to use the control bar, as soon as you move the mouse it pops back up from hiding. Does this not work for you? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. All the more impressive considering I didn't do any color correction... ??? I just output high bitrate 1080i m2t's straight from Vegas, and then transcoded them to low bitrate 720p mp4's using x264 encoder. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. I've spent the past several weeks overhauling the video section of my site. No longer do you have to download low-quality wmv files. You can now watch High Definition wingsuit videos right on the site (think Vimeo or Youtube HD). This was a lot of work, and I hope you all enjoy it! Right now all of the older videos have been transcoded to the new format, but I also have several new ones coming soon, including a few events from the past 6 months. This is all brand new to me (the web coding side of it) so I'm looking for any feedback, especially if anybody has any problems with viewing the videos. I'm considering adding a "low quality" option if the HD is too much for some users' computers to handle... but for now the HD/HQ is all there is. http://www.matthoover.com/gallery/skydiving-videos/ Feedback, please!
  20. Man, how is it possible I missed this entire thread? Was out at Skydive Houston today and somebody had one of these, and it was total news to me. So freaking small. Last I saw you, you were giving me crap for still using tape (partially because you had to wait for that tape to cap). Two if the reasons I resisted the CX7 and CX12 were OIS, and some reports I had seen that AVCHD was noisier than HDV. Well, the first of those issues is solved with EIS on the CX100. But the second I am still a bit concerned about. I guess it's not worth fretting over if AVCHD is the new norm, but is it true that it's still noisier/grainier in some light conditions than HDV? Regardless, for
  21. Nice, although it irks me when a media company's web department can't figure out how to render JPG's for the web. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  22. Rough it up enough and you'll get black dust. Although most helmets you see with carbon fiber exterior have every other layer fiberglass, maybe one more layer of CF on the inside. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  23. Try contact cement. Rough up the carbon fiber first and clean it with acetone. Keep a lot of pressure (clamping force or sand bags inside the helmet) on the bond for 24 hours or so and then remove it. If I remember correctly (it's been a while), there was something counter-intuitive he had in his instructions, I think it was like apply the cement to both surfaces and then let it dry partially, and only apply them together once it's really tacky. Ok, I just dug up my instructions and it was 30 minutes you let the wet surfaces sit and get tacky before putting them together. This is what Wes Rich uses for his CCM liners and what I used when I built mine. I also bonded in velcro in one place (for the cutaway handle), and some nylon webbing sleeve in another place (to stow the cutaway cable). www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  24. You are a genius Andrea! It worked! What other secrets are you hiding? I haven't updated all the pages yet but here is a sample where it is working well: http://www.matthoover.com/jw.html (just a test page where I've tried lots of changes and different video encoding methods) It's funny, the border IS sized properly but it's as if there's an invisible black bar below the player that shouldn't be there, so now the border is able to sit on top of that. People on other forums kept telling me to lower the bottom border, and yes it became visible then, but then there was also a black gap between border and player. Getting it to "sit on top" of the player is exactly what I was hoping there was a way to do. Haven't tried Firebug, was asking for help on other forums and got no good answer like I did from you, but they suggested that too, I'll check it out soon. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
