  1. I am also going to take the edited DVD that Scott Bland made (with Perry's footage of EVERY jump from the weekend) and encode it to a viewable file, soon when I get a chance. I have the permission of both authors. What format would people prefer? I've never encoded a file this big before but I'm guessing it will be a biggish download. But it's very much worth it! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  2. I know this is probably what you meant, but flocking experience is more important than total WS jumps. :) www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  3. Hey Bryan, I am not at home right now, but I remember downloading some video a few weeks ago, probably from skydivingmovies.com, that was a 10 minute TV segment (I think) about skydiving, from at least a few decades ago. The actors (and skydivers) all looked like they belonged in the cast of Leave it to Beaver, from the way they talked and acted. There was some footage in that video of someone jumping with giant batlike wings. It was scary. When I get home in a week, I will find the video, if someone doesn't link to it sooner. P.S. The performance sucks! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  4. 3.5k-4k because I was getting linetwists (just a few, not serious) somewhat frequently. I don't think I've had them in 50 jumps or so but I still pull above 3.5k usually. Even on normal skydives I never go lower than 3k. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  5. Nitpicking, but it does say $749 on that site... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  6. Have you heard "Blue Skies"? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  7. List updated... I'm down for flocking (as always), to whoever mentioned it.
  8. what would you have done prior to a BMI rating being established? I started before a BMI was established. I did though learn from a very experianced skymonkey1 I would have found the best I could, which would have been someone without a rating. Now, the best I can find is someone with a rating. What would you have jumped before ram-air canopies existed? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  9. How can you make an air skills evaluation if you don't see the student jump? Watch with binoculars? Or did I misunderstand your statement? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  10. Which store? www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  11. I would guess if you didn't see any wingsuits, either you weren't looking hard enough, or the obvious answer - there were in fact, no wingsuits. [/smartass] www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  12. This is probably the stupidest question I've ever asked, but can someone be BMI and PFI at same time? You know, to offer choices to those newbies who may prefer BM over PF, or vice versa? Also, does it cost anything to become PFI? I'm going further and further off topic here, but does one actually have to be a BMI/PFI to take someone on their first WS jump? The question is purely academic - I would not attempt to instruct someone without the rating, nor would I have accepted instruction on MY first jump from someone without a rating. But I am curious what the USPA's stance on this is... I feel like a jerk for asking some of these questions, but the fact is that even though many try to deny the existence of a commercial rift being formed in the WS world, I as a somewhat experienced pilot looking to possibly become an instructor, am feeling the "nonexistent" rift personally. I feel forced to choose between one manufacturer or the other, and my desire to teach is inextricably linked to a completely separate desire (not necessarily held by me) to promote commercial products. I'm not badmouthing this desire... manufacturers of wingsuits deserve all the promotion they can get, since THEY only have allowed me to fly! I'm basically just rambling here and I hope I haven't stepped on any toes with my words, but I am curious what other think about these things... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  13. I am looking at the same camera, but someone in a different thread in this same forum mentioned that: I really am not sure what all that means since I don't fly camera yet, so I'm curious if it's a big deal... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  14. I asked that question before and got an answer... too lazy (and on too Dutch of a computer) to find the post now. I think the S4 was just a prototype that never saw production. S2 got skipped as well... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  15. Wanker! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  16. I did a zoo of a 6-way sitfly with at least two vertical collisions (they were soft, but still). Try to keep yours a little less stupid than that. I also got pied... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  17. I haven't actually jumped the tracksuit myself yet, but a guy had one this weekend and I went up with him in my S3 and had no problems staying with him. It was a bit odd at first, but once I got the right position down we were solid and had a few 5 second docks and did some over/unders, and even swooped a cloud (well, I left him in the dust to swoop a cloud , though he says he followed me). His forward speed was very good, but his fall rate was pretty high too, and it was a little hard at first to match both at the same time. Usually it's the opposite problem, when you're jumping with a Classic or something, they can float fine but don't drive enough. This tracksuit drove a lot, just didn't float quite as much as a WS. I ended up just flying in a bit of a dive, with arm wings in quite a bit but leg wing was driving a lot. We had an 82 second jump. I was honestly surprised at how well the suit did, and it was only his 4th jump on it I think. He was heavier than me too, I'd guess. Will have to try it myself sometime. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  18. Yes, birds do flap their wings, but airplanes have props. Just because we don't flap our wings doesn't mean we can't learn from a wing that does flap, anymore than we can't learn from an aircraft wing since we don't have props. Ever see what birds do when they're not flapping, but still flying? They're gliding, just like us! www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  19. It is all skyflying for sure, but it's not all bodyflying, and a rigid wing is not a suit. Nor is a fabric suit a rigid wing. No, it's not... look up the meaning of "rigid". www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  20. Who said anything about hating? All I'm saying is that a rigid wing is not a wingsuit. It's a wing. Suits are flexible things you can wear. If a rigid wing is a wingsuit, so is a hang glider, and so is a Cessna. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  21. Airplanes have a set of wings too. As far as I know, wingsuits are unique in that they are non rigid and controlled 100% by your entire body, just like a skydiver controls himself in freefall. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  22. I am trying to decide between several different camcorder models, and am wondering how much the video resolution should play into my decision. I really have no finite grasp on how big of a difference there is between 690k and 2050k pixels (HC42 vs HC90). I know one is a lot better, but for all I know the 690k may look great and be plenty good enough for me. How can I get an idea of how videos at these resolutions look? Also, the PC1000 says 670k "x3" because of the 3 sensors (which I'll admit I don't fully understand the benefit of)... does that mean it ends up looking like 2MP, or is that spec misleading? (I would probably know the answer to this if I fully understood the whole 3 sensor thing). Are there any good websites with this kind of info out there? I searched these forums and did a lot of Google searches and can't seem to find any primers on basics like resolution, and the whole 3 sensor thing I still don't fully understand. Thanks. www.WingsuitPhotos.com
  23. No clue. In addition to that, I am curious how well the suit performs (in normal belly down flight) compared to a GTI or S3, and also, of course, how it flies acrobatically. Hopefully I'll get to fly one at WFFC if not sooner... www.WingsuitPhotos.com
