From the above link: "The Republicans have been successful in framing themselves as the defenders of American traditions - religious traditions and family traditions - and I think they have successfully painted the Democrats all too often as contrary to those values," said Barack Obama, newly elected senator from Illinois whose victory provided one of the few bright spots for the Democrats. The way the respective campaigns were run and managed, rather that the actual issues, made the real difference then? Paul Q referred to that in another election thread. If I recall correctly he actually suggested that the Rep's campaign manager won this election, rather than Bush himself! I have found the whole dynamic of these elections extremely interesting and informative. (emphasis added by me)

According to The Star, a major SA daily, 'moral' voting by Americans ensured victory for Bush. Your thoughts?

Like Tonto I too am a foreign observer. Exactly what could/would Kerry sue for?

I did my own little (unscientific) poll today. About half of my colleagues didn't bother to watch F911 last night - most simply lacked the interest. Of the half that did watch, several didn't see it through to the end. Almost without exception, the ones that did watch felt it was a joke and it did not influence them in the slightest. Also almost without exception, people were amazed at what real 'freedom of speech' means and to what extent it is exercised in the US.

Sangiro is pronounced Sun-ge-roe Sun (as in Earth's orbit around) ge (hard 'g' as in geese) The 'ge' sounds like 'me' as in "Me, myself and I" . roe (as in fish eggs). Sangiro was the pseudonym of an author (Pienaar) who wrote about the outdoors and wildlife of southern Africa- the plains of Tanzania and Kenya mostly.

Islam was only established as a religion around 500 - 600 AD. The Taliban was created as recently as 1994. As Wendy pointed out, the Taliban are no more representative of Islam than David Koresh's Branch Davidians were of Christianity. Some usefull reading on Islam: Islam is not, as some imagine in the West, a religion of the sword nor did it spread primarily by means of war. Christians and Jews were not forced to convert. Outside of Arabia also the vast lands conquered by the Arab armies in a short period became Muslim not by force of the sword but by the appeal of the new religion. The new religion did not coerce people to convert. Many continued to remain Jews and Christians and to this day important communities of the followers of these faiths are found in Muslim lands.

This is obviously bogus, but the wings are equally obviously still 'folded' forward in pic 1.

CNN story - South African skydiver mishap survived!
Erroll replied to peacefuljeffrey's topic in The Bonfire
I seem to recall another South African (Chris?) who had a double mal in the early 90's, near Wonderboom. He had material above his head but nothing inflated. The washing above his head got snared by the power lines, saving him from impact. He hung there, suspended from the power lines, until something burnt through and he fell to the ground. Perhaps Tonto can confirm (or dispell) the incident. -
With respect, the originator of this thread chose to use the word novel in the subject line. In this context novel means new. He also finished the sentence with a '?' suggesting a question: Was this a new way to open a site? He got answered.

[Billvon] Static line - student in tow.
Erroll replied to Erroll's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Of course they are. I was more interested in Bill's thoughts on diving out after the (unconscious) student. Clearly this is not an option on a military jump, but a good AFFI might consider it on a sport jump from 3.5k. -

Did this procedure apply during mass drops too; out the side of a Dak for example? Could cause a bit of a traffic jam with 50 paratroopers doing the stomping march to exit! -
If it weren't for the whackos, who would there be to judge? (Other than *---fill in politician of choice here---*)
