Thanks. For that correction. I am forever changed. I have seen the light. I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire

"everything is copasthetic" what exactly does copasthetic mean? sounds like a run-on word... cope with asthetics... it doesnt make sence... and most of the people that use it are high at the time... stop using words if you dont know the meaning! ALL OFFICE LINGO. For example: I get tired of hearing "Keep In Mind." Where else am I going to keep it? Up my ass? That doesnt work too good... not easily accessable... and it smells bad when I need to dig it out.... another one is "Happy Holidays." This phrase just pisses me off like nothing else ever has. IT IS FRIGGIN CHRISTMAS PEOPLE! I got repremanded at work for putting up a Merry Christmas sign in my cubicle. I got written up and I was told (not asked) to take it down. Tell me someone else despises the Happy Holidays! I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire

1) From The Streets: Yeah, I just came in from the streets too... your point is? 2) Been There Done That: Yeah, when Mountain Dew did that... get some new material. I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire

I had 3 malfunctions/cutaways within my first 100 jumps. I packed them all, all were by Flat Packing. My friends started calling me Malfunction, and the name stuck. Since then, have had only one cutaway in the last 5 years, and that was a Tandem that I packed where the riser broke, so I was off the hook. Once again Friday Once again no pay for me I can't even jump. I still have no job Packing chutes just makes me sad When will I jump next? Blue skies are gray here Rain came last night and today No one can jump here. I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire

Blue- I saw you walk past. I was in the packing tent Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday and part of Monday. I chatted with Remwa at the loading tent a bit, he was lookin for a dz.com jump too. Raefordite said that only a handful of people showed up at the skykat tent. For the record, I met Angel, already knew Samurai and Maximus, met Remwa, met a couple people from Ks, although I cannot remember their names, and crossed paths with a few others too. But packing all weekend doesn't exactly lead to meeting a bunch of people. I too was in my tent by 10 every night. Just didn't feel like drinkin. If anyone made it to the beer truck, chances are you were less than 20 feet from my tent. I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire

Correction: NOT VIII, it was V2.5 packed under V2 instructions. Bill, Egon has the information and the person this happened to. They will be able to provide further and more detailed information. You and I start at the same spot. 0 years in the sport, 0 jumps. Over the last 5 years, you have 1000 jumps, I only have 300. Over the last 5 years, I have packed 2000 sport rigs, watched 100 reserve repacks and packed 800 tandems. You have only packed your own. It would be logical that I know a bit more about gear than you do. On your 1000 jumps, you packed maybe 3 different rigs. In my 2000 packs, I have packed 10 different rigs, plus 800 packs on 5 different tandem rigs, plus watched 10 different reserve rigs being packed. I tell you something about gear, and the first words from you are "keep in mind, he only has 300 jumps." You have no idea of the knowledge I posess because you don't know the work I have done with different gear. You tell me that on a 4 way exit out of an Otter, I have to do a certain thing so I don't funnel the exit. You have more skill than me. The first words out of my mouth aren't "keep in mind, he has only packed 3 different rigs." That make sense? Why do people pass judgment on your experience based solely on the number of jumps you have? I don't like being judged the way it is (Only God Can Judge Me), but having my information, research, knowledge, experience and personality judged simply because I have 341 jumps is stupid! Anyone else ever run into this? Examples, being told 'NO' on a formation load because I have only 341 jumps and you should have 500 to make that kind of jump (when I had 250, I was told that you should have 300); or being told that my knowledge of gear is limited because I have 341 jumps ("keep in mind he only had 341 jumps" someone said - mind you, I have been in the sport since 96); or being told I can't jump a Diablo because I don't have enough jumps (someone ACTUALLY said that to me - I have been jumping a Stilletto 135 for over 2 years). I say BULLSHIT! There is no magic number of jumps that means you know everything. There is no magic number that determines your investagative skills are more honed than others. You could have 50 jumps and be a VERY skilled rigger, or 2 jumps but be an incredible jump pilot. Jump numbers are jump numbers. HOW MANY TIMES YOU HAVE GOTTEN OUT OF THE DAMN PLANE! Not what you know, how much you know, what your experience level is, and so on. People put too much emphasis on jump number and it starts with USPA's liscense ratings. 25 jumps for A liscense, 50 for B, 200 for C, 500 for D (or whatever they are now). Just this weekend I was in a conversation with a jumper that has 50 freefalls and another jumper was trying to talk him into a Viper170. The new jumper said, "I really like the begger, slower canopy." Does that mean he doesn't know what he is talking about because he only has 50 jumps? Or does it mean that he isn't qualified to jump with me because he only has 50 jumps? As a side note, his progression is MUCH better that many jumpers that have graduated and now have hundreds or even thousands of jumps. I have rarely seen a newbie like this learn to flat track so effectively (one of our more experienced jumpers and jumpmaster have said the same thing) I may not be able to get on the plane much in my 7 years in the sport simply because I don't always have the money (and God forbid there is more to life than jumping), but does indicate I know nothing about the sport? It just so happens that I pack more than I jump, so I am at the dz almost every weekend, learning, reading, packing, thinking, investigating, tossing out 'what if' sceanarios, coaching jumpers, teaching static line classes, gearing up tandem passengers, manifesting. Since when does 341 jumps mean that I can't do any of that or that I have no knowledge in those fields? Ok, Rant over. I don't feel any better though. Good Day. Couch Freaks - Dollar Daze 2003
Malfunction replied to Raefordite's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I will be getting there Thursday late AM. Think I could pack for those that are on the state record? I need the money... DZ.commers, check in at SkyKat tent and we might get at dz.com jump together. (It was posted on page 1, but I thought it important enough to post here too). I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire -
First of all, I take no offense to anything anyone says. These, afterall, are FORUMS, NOT LAWS. Online forums force opinions, and everyone knows the cliche on opinions. Secondly, AM I MISINFORMED? NO. I SAW THE RESERVE BEING PULLED AND NOTHING HAPPENING!!!! At the time, I didn't think to investigate for two reasons. Number one, I don't jump a VIII; number two, it wasn't my rig. I decided to post this because I responded to someones question about what rig to buy and if there were any 'qwirks' about it. After posting what I witnessed, I was asked by a greeny to investigate. I did my research with others that witnessed it as well. The jumper this happened to fought his battle with RWS and my DZO was with him at the time. I would have thought this to be an isolated incident with a poor reserve pack (not my pack). But ANOTHER jumper had the same thing happen at a different dz by a different rigger, but this time at terminal velocity (yes, he too had a VIII). Now I ask you all, coincidence? Am I poorly misinformed? Did I print hearsay? I printed what my DZO found out by representing the jumper. Lastly, if what I have found out is in fact a bunch of garbage that has no business in a factual forum, why hasn't a greeny deleted my posts yet? Maybe, just maybe, there is a little truth in this? By no means is it intended to have everyone jump ship and ditch RWS, but it IS intended to make you aware that there were occasions that gear failed, and if you are concerned, you have to make the decision to further investigate or just forget about it. But please don't attack me, my knowledge, my experience or my sources. Good Day. I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire

I have discussed thoroughly with my DZO and rigger about the VectorIII reserve firing problem. This was a problem that occurred when the rig first came out. There was a revision made to the manufacturers recomended packing of the reserve pilot chute. Normally, Vectors have the fabric of the reserve PC tucked along the sides of the coil (from the spring loaded reserve PC, just so everyone understands). The container is narrow the way it is, so tucking the fabric along the sides caused the reserve PC to get hung up during deployment. Vector released a revision, but unpublicized, stating that the PC material should be packed under the coil of the spring loaded reserve PC rather than outside. This change has allowed for clean depolyment on the VectorIII. The rig in question was sent to the factory and everything was proven to be ok. Feel free to ask further questions. I will answer them the best I can, and if I don't have the answer, I will find it. I think I have publicized this more than Vector ever did. Blue Skies! I have had some discussion as to this remark. I WILL create a post that will discuss this tomorrow. I need to talk to my rigger about the situations that were witnessed. I know that this is now a giant red flag for anyone that jumps VectorIII, so let me get to the bottom of it and back up my allogation. YOU WILL SEE A POST ABOUT THIS NO LATER THAN TOMORROW. I apologize for the scare, I thought that this may have happened at other DZs across the country/world. I don't know if anyone has informed you yet, but I will describe the roll pack to you. On a Tandem, generally there is so much fabric that you can get away with a different type of pack. The roll pack starts out like a flat pack, but instead of the flat pack folds, first you control the nose (as I described in the post) by folding the right 4 cells in towards the center cell, then doing the same with the left 4, leaving the center cell open to the air. Take the set of A lines, fold them halfway to the B lines (it is such a short fold that it seems more like rolling the canopy rather than folding it), then completely to the B lines. Make sure that the lines are all together and the folds are crisp. Take the tail and fold the Brake lines to the C lines, then take the D lines and fold them to the C lines. Bring the slider up to the canopy, fold the slider in half and stow in between the stabilizer. Take the tail section of the canopy (now a stacked mess) and fold it once more between the B and C lines. Fold the nose on top of it. You know have your canopy ready to S fold into the bag. Mind, this should only be done with Tandems. Our DZO does it to the Manta 240 that he has as student gear, but I have never done it to anything other than Tandems. Basically, that is it. When packing Tandems, they are forgiving and open slowly anyway with the Anti-Slump bags they use. It is a fast and effective way to pack Tandems. Hope that helps. I find that the Dolphin closing is a lot like the Eclipse and Infinity. Either way works. There are no offset gromets to worry about so either closing procedure BTLR or BTRL will work. Packed a ton of em, only 2 mals (canopy related). Both happened to be when I was jumping them, and both under ROUND reserves... For example, I have found that the VectorIII has a reserve fire problem. Two examples of what I mean: 1) A jumper I know from another DZ need a reserve ride for a lisence qualification. Intentional cut-away (it was time for a repack anyway). He took up his VectorIII AND a front-mount reserve for that nestalgia thing. Pulled main. Cut away (4000 for safety reasons), pulled reserve. NOTHING. Checked over shoulder. NOTHING OUT, RIG CLOSED. Went to belly-mount. 2) Fellow jumper had to pull on the ground for a rigger to repack reserve. Pulled silver. NOTHING. Rigger about had a heart-attack. Jumper used left elbow, right elbow. Reserve fired. Rigger found another way to pack the reserve that was not manufacture recomendation and reserve has popped ever since. Scary, eh? The moral to this story is that first had experience about pull tension, pin pressure and finally, reserve firing is important to KNOW THAT IT IS GOING TO WORK. Does that make sence? Couch Freaks - Dollar Daze 2003
Malfunction replied to Raefordite's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I plan to be there from Friday AM through Monday. Thanks to my old boss, I was canned at the perfect time... I'm goin to Couch Freaks! I'm goin ta Couch Freaks! The only down thing is I get to pitch camp next to the Polyester Palace. Could be worse. I could be by the KAIVOs! I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire -
I take it you roll the sh!t out of the nose, don't you? Simple solution. FOLD (do not roll because the ROLL is so inconsistent) the left 4 cells twice, leave the center cell, FOLD the right 4 cells twice. A lines halfway to the B (keeping the folds clean), then the rest of the way. Piece of cake, and the openings will be onheading. The softness comes mostly from line stretch (at least from what I have seen in the videos shot of my tandem openings). I have begun to pro-pack the SET 400 and SET 360s that our DZ has (I had a roll pack SET 400 go bad on me). So I have to contradict what I said earlier. I think I would like to get TandemMasters feedback on roll pack vs pro pack vs traditional flat pack. So, here I am at the local Library of all places, to do some post-whoring. Ivan, dude, I was just trying to cause a little stir among the Jedei Post Whoring ranks. Did it work? See, the thing about me being fired isn't that I am out of a job, gone from an office that I HELPED BUILD, working with a bunch of two-faced, estrogen pumped, backstabbing whores, but the fact that I can no longer afford to pay my child support (which will NOT stop accruing), nor have insurance for him, which I am required by the state of Iowa to have. I cannot get Title 19 because my son does not live with me. So, I am damned if I do (because COBRA costs like 150.00/week) and damned if I don't (I can now become a jailbird skydiver. Maybe I should talk to HH and see if I can bum some of that bond money he's got). Ah, hell, might as well go pack some parachutes. Maybe that will pay for Couch Freaks over Labor Day. GOD! I HATE MAC's!!!!!!!! That is all that the Library has! UGH! I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. - Voltaire

I need SERIOUS vibes. My boss decided that she wanted an all female staff and FIRED ME TODAY! Now I am just like Ivan, unemployed and bored. Unfortunately, though, the only online that I have was at work or down at the public library (which is where I am now). Guess I won't be going to Couch Freaks Labor Day afterall...
