  1. Not for nothing, but as far as laws go ingnorance is not an excuse. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  2. Ally, That is not always the case. If you read the incidents forum you will see recently a student at the ranch was killed under a manta 280. I learned on the same equipment. In hindsight, they are very big very slow chutes, however, still Lethal if you try to land in a turn. This student did do a 450 degree turn, but there is noting to suggest a 90 low bank wouldn't have done him in. This was not an attempt to downsize or swoop, simply either loss of alti awareness (Doubtful he was in his patern) or something scared him, maybe trees or runway.... It is always better to hit the trees or go downwind than to bank it into the ground. Onething I will say, I was NEVER taught what a FLAT TURN was as a student.... I think more emphasis should be put on them!!! Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  3. Funny how UBL admits he was behind 9/11 in his latest tape.... wierd... ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  4. SOmeone on here actually thinks the Libertarian Party is going to WIN? This isn't who do you like, it is who will win!!! ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  5. I just hope this is resolved tomorrow!!!!! I don't want to go through the 2000 election again!! I fear it won't be solved though. Sen Kerry has hire over 10,000 lawyers to dispute voting practices in the 50 states..... ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  6. Simply stated if you turn your chute in a typical one toggle turn your forward speed increases dramatically. This is no big deal at altitudes above 1000 Ft. Depending on your canopy and weight, and several other factors, there is a recovery time between stopping the turn and your canopy flying straight again. Turning too low can cause you to strike the ground at a high rate of speed. The bigger the chute the more forgiving, however, almost any chute can kill you if you turn too low. Often it is taught that you can give a full toggle input above 1000ft. Between 1000 and 500 you can give a half toggle input, and below that a 1/4 toggle input. Speak to your Instructor they can tell you everything you need to know. Low turns are important for beginners to understand, and ways of avoiding them are just as important. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  7. Yes, what Skyhigh said. Hey my instructors were great, I listened and wasn't stupid most of the time, but again seeing it happen had much more of an effect on me than the instuctors telling me. Plus, I may not have been your "typical" student. In my progression I saw some students do stupid things even though the same instructors I had told them the same things. 8. I am not sure if it has been brought up before, but I was wondering what everyone's take on this was. I was a student a few short years ago, and I am still a low timer. I remember in my training being warned of "Low Turns" and what they can do. I was trained at the Ranch by Nikki, and Guy Wright, 2 great teachers that I learned a lot from. However, hearing about a low turn, and seeing one are two very different things. I was always paranoid about turning low, but it wasn't until I had about 30 jumps, when I saw someone's parachute beat them to the ground. (Some how they lived...) Watching that with my own eyes had a profound effect on the way I approach landing. I feel it has made me a great deal more aware and conscience of what CAN happen if I panic. Recently a student died at the ranch from an apparent panic turn or loss of awareness. We hear about it all the time. I was wondering what people's opinions of showing videos of low turns (burn-ins) to students would be. By students I mean anyone past Tandem, and going through a program. Maybe it would work like a "Scared Straight" type show. Obviously we don't want to scare people away from skydiving, but maybe we can bring the realities of this sport to the attention of newbies to instill on them some sort of awareness of the danger of Low Turns. Thoughts comments??? Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  9. That makes no sense... You are trying to imply that "Poor Peaople" drive the economy. They Don't!!! People with large wallets drive the economy, enabling poorer people to work and then spend. Trickle - up economics don't work. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  10. Unemployment Rate (%) By Nation: Germany - 10.5% France - 9.3% Canada - 7.1% USA - 5.4% Japan - 4.6 ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  11. It pains me to see economic numbers and Clinton in the same sentence. Fact is the markets value and peoples "Paper Value" were great in a bubble economy. The bubble burst and look what happened... Profits were inflated, incomes were inflated, and investment values were inflated. When the bubble burst, people came back to normal. When did the bubble begin to burst??? Oh yeah, on Clintons watch. I don't blame Clinton for the bubble. However, I don't give him credit for a boom in the economy either as the bubble grew. FACT: US unemployment rate is one of the LOWEST in the world. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty

  13. Uhh...that's why I said that there's a strong correlation. It's not a "1" correlation. There are always exceptions. But, on these boards, it seems that the people who have a math/science background tend to be liberals. I have a very Strong Math and Physics background. I am an atmospheric Physicist for MIT. I happened to be a proud Conservative!!! When I was in "Liberal School" I was brainwashed too, but I got out of school, entered the real world and saw the light. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  14. Really... NO RIOTING IN KENMORE???? Were you there? Don't tell me there was no violence nor rioting in Kenmore. Ask the owners of the Cask'n Flagon.... Ask the owners of the McDonalds in Kenmore.... No rioting. Don't pretend like it was a peaceful gathering of 80,000 people. It wasn't it was far from it. Also there was a full riot on Boylston St. Cops have radios and they knew what was heading their way. Murder is a bit Harsh... The partner of the COP who hit the girl was struck in the head with a brick PRIOR to the girl being shot. Don't be stupid and try to pin this on the cops.... They were defending their own lives. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  15. The best is the lie he told last week about the Red Sox. He talked about how he was at the 1986 Game 6 Mets vs. Sox. He said he was 3 rows up at the game in NY on the third base line... He remembered how heartbroken he was. Woops, maybe he forgot he was in BOSTON that night at a late evening Minority function/fundraiser. When confronted with the truth his advisors said he left early from the fundraiser and hoped a shuttle to NY to see the game. Ya right. The fundraiser began at 8PM in Boston. Last Shuttle to Ny on a Sat night is 9PM. Let's pretend he did catch it. (unlikely due to travel time to the airport after being at the fundraiser at 8PM) But if he did catch the 9PM flight he would have landed in NY/LGA airport at 10PM, then maybe got to the game and got his seats by 1030-1045PM. Think about this, you are a huge Sox fan. It is 9PM the game started at 730, and you are going to miss watching it for trying to maybe catch a flight and see 10 minutes of the game.... I doubt it. In fact, I doubt he ever left the Fundraiser he went to. An article was written in the Boston Globe on Kerry's appearence at the Fundraiser. (Proof he was there.) ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  16. yeah, no trouble..... 70-80K people, cars flipped over and burned, 3 cops hospitalized after being hit with Bricks, windows in 2 banks smashed out .... But there wasn't a riot!!!!! It was a peaceful demonstration by several thousand drunk college kids. I have no sypathy for any parties involved. I am die Hard sox fan, grew up in Beantown, and I would not go near downtown if they win the WS.... Fuck that. The population of Boston in the summer is about 700,000. During school, the city population reaches about 1.5 million!!!! What does that say??? Too many young drunk assholes out looking for trouble!!!! ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  17. SMiles Why ???? That is a Dumb and easy question! Answer, because it is a dichotomy! 1 in 500 is rare.... that is .2%, a relatively small number if you ask me. Homosexuals make up about 1-2% of the population, again fairly small. And transgenders are 10-20 time less common than that. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  18. I didn't see any reference to Burning Cars http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/redsox/articles/2004/10/21/in_victory_fan_anxiety_turns_to_delirium?pg=2 Shit happens though. There are 400,000 college students in the city of Boston alone.... Alot of young drunk stupid people. One or two Morons shouldn't make you think we sports fans are all Morons.... I would have been in the streets dancing drinking and having a good time, but I wouldn't roll cars... Shit happens, there are morons everywhere. Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  19. The fact is that the President can and does do his job remotely. Even on Vacation he/she has meetings every morning and is briefed on a host of topics. He can and does make calls to his advisors and his job is still being done. A senator does not have that liberty. THe Senators sole purpose is to represent his state and vote on Bills important to the people he represents.... When was the last time Kerry actually did his Job???? People of MA, you are paying his salary after all.... What is he doing? ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  20. Bush looking like a pilot LMAO That picture made the world laugh. So real, so male... ROFL What a show. But were'nt some of your governors, presidents... just actors? He was a fighter pilot once. Again you chose to "enlighten: us without any real knowledge. What kind of fighter pilot no-shows for his medical and gets grounded? What kind of fighter pilot gives up flying so he can work on an election campaign? Just wondering. The same type of Guy who misses senate votes and 75 Intelligence commitee meetings to work on a Presidential campaign..... A guy just like Kerry ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  21. Ummm...everything they've done since taking power. It seems like they are saying Iraq.... If so, I find it hard to believe ther ewas nothing wrong with the Lightbulb/Iraq. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  22. I don't think so..they got a lot of shit last time around.I will be interested to see if there is any speculation this time. ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  23. WOW only 14 more days.... Didn't even realize it. BTW- You do realize non of this will end then right. If Kerry is elected, the right will criticize everything he does. If Bush is elected the left will bitch about how he lost the popular vote in the first election.... ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  24. I kind of see where you are going with this, but what is the "Light Bulb" a metaphor of? ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
  25. Ever watch CNN's Crossfire? What do you think of Tucker Carlson then? And don't forget Fox has a Bush relative working for them, and a Bush Sr former staff member working for them as well. What do I think of Tucker???? Does it matter? He is just as radical as Carville...they are both whack jobs.. And neither should be working for any political group. Hey, if I am the presidents son I can work for a news agency, as long as I do not have political ties to my father.. It is possible. In fact I completely disagree with my fathers politics. But I digress. James Carville we know supports Kerry. There is no disputing that. As an Editorialist, he is entitled to his opinion, but, being on the Kerry payroll is a conflict of interest. Plain and simple. Chris ----------------------------------------------------- Sometimes it is more important to protect LIFE than Liberty
