    Book - BASE66

This was posted at BLiNC in the Beginners forum by "Doug"........... Just interested........has anyone read this?? http://www.blincmagazine.com/forum/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=6&topic_id=667&mesg_id=667&page= and is there an English translation? Thanks
  3. 54 Miles = 285,120 Feet can i ask why they consider this as the edge of space? the pics of JK getting off at 102k feet looks kinda in the realms of way up there!
  4. again I just want to ask does anyone have a good quality link to a pic of the exit of this jump???
  5. and i thought i had a moment of clarity!! oh well i guess I aint the first to think this then!! ...........oh and being in the UK i did not hear that show and steal the idea!! hehehe
  6. dude that is so fucking cool! Nice one!
  7. dude! that means even more sick then I already do!!! Team Low n Vulgar - taking it to the BASEment!!
  8. and my favorite "asked by skydivers" why jump from low fixed objects? dont you like freefall? so its all relative!
  9. http://home.att.net/~1.elliott/JOEKITTINGER.HTML has anyone got any better pics of the exit??????
  10. again, i was not really directing at you personally. Just the attitude I see in the skydiving world............... its one of the parts i think suck! take it easy and heal fast (if your still healing!!)
  11. at 63,000ft the outside pressure equals the vapour pressure of the human body, the bodies fluids will start to boil. due to this hostile environment is this where space starts?? Objects around the earth in space are effected by the earths gravity (which hold them there) so is this not space?? its a question scientists have argued about for years. Take a look at the pics of Kittinger jumping - then tell me that aint "space"!
  12. fair point. But my reply was not just fired at you - but the general feeling from skydivers that "whuffos" are stupid because they dont know about skydiving. There are posts after posts about this. Its one gripe I have with skydiving. Sorry to aim it at you. We are all whuffos in one sense or another so why think people are stupid because they dont have the same interest as you? I bet I know more about BASE jumping than alot of skydivers - but i dont think they are stupid, even if they are now "whuffos" to my sport??? get my point?? I have met people that think BASE is safer because its lower than skydiving, some people also beleived that I would not need a parachute????? - but they are not stupid, they just dont have the knowldege to make an informed statement. Before you slate a "whuffo" just think what they may know about that you dont - but does that make you stupid?????? just my whuffo head speaking!
  13. Now here is a curious thought. Joe Kittinger stepped from his ballon gondola in August 1960 at 102,800ft to enter history as "the highest skydive". 9 Months later Alan Shepard entered history as "America's First Astronaut" or "first American in space". Now I would not take anything away from Alan Shepard (RIP) but I would think that Joe Kittinger surely would be the first American in space? Obviously there is some argument on where do you say space starts? A german scientist known as "father of space medicine" named Hubertus Stughold, reasoned that space began as low as 80,000ft (well low by space standard) due to the logistical problems of keeping someone alive at this altitude is the same as keeping them alive at a height of 1000 Miles (5,280,000ft). Taking this into account, surely then Joe Kittinger is the first American in Space? as well as the person to have skydived from the highest altitude? Note: as JK was a US Air Force captain I assume he is american!! Just food for thought when reading history books stating something - it does not always mean its so!

    Football is...

to be honest American sports are kinda fucked! World Series Baseball??? mmmmm who in the world is that then? American football?? mmmmmm why all the padding and helmets? have you not seen rugby?
  15. this is exactly the attitude that makes people think we are tossers with an eliteist attitude. Why is someone dumb because they have chosen not to learn about a certain subject? Were you also born with all your "skydiving" knowledge? The slating of people because they dont know about a specialist actitivity is shitty and also makes you look like a "dumbass" Get a grip.............. just my non-skydiving 2 whuffos worth!
  16. On the subject on DBS or settings being too shallow. Just wanted opinion on something. I beleive that having the break setting to shallow is also detrimental in getting the canopy inflated, pressurised and flying quicker. If the setting is too shallow then the canopy will try and fly forward and thus bring the nose down and forward, this then shuts of a clean airflow to the nose. Generally speaking would you say this to be true?
  17. ........... yeah and faber is sick! just look what happens when you start going below 200!! you end up taking 1 secs from above 300 and then 1+ secs from 220!! fucked i tell ya!
  18. If your lowest is 260ft then make some freefalls from below this and then reconsider sub200 without a vented canopy. With freefalls toward 200ft (and then below) there are alot of other things to consider................
  19. Surely if your Deep Brake setting is correctly set (as in for slider off /down) then jumping slider up with this setting will possible cause your canopy to open in a stall? My thought that the shallow brakes were to give you the same setting as your deep whislt rigged for SU due to the control lines routing through the slider and keeper. (although people do use shallow also on SO for other reasons) Am I incorrect in this thinking?

    Opening Shock

He was answering me. I doubt that many skydivers would claim me as one of their own. But I'll try to make it to a dropzone and find out. I guess your back has had its score of hard openings (and landings / arrivals!) - I wont call you a girl then! As for the rest............. well of course openings are hard! Don’t be such girls!

    Opening Shock

it was not aimed at you dude - but the quote from the skydiver that you were answering! sorry! and come on dude - it was all tongue in cheek!
  22. BASE813

    Opening Shock

ah poor baby........... take up chess if the openings hurt you! I dont know! first splinters, and now brisk openings........... are base jumpers going soft and gay? The openings are softer than hitting the ground - thats all that matters.

    I want BASE

I dont think skreamer meant that. I think what he meant (and I certainly agree) is that banging a load of jumps off that span does not prepare you for the "dark side of BASE" - certainly not for jumping in the UK any how. I have heard of at least one UKer that after the FJC at that span got back to the UK and after his first "raid" gave up. That span prepares you for exiting and low altitude canopy flight - but thats all.
  24. I would find it handy to have the country that people live in in small font under peoples users names on posts instead of having to look at their profiles. This would help with the international coverage that DZ has and also be user friendly that people can see straight away if the postings are by someone from their country. Just a thought............ Cheers
