hey dude! you get me wrong! I aint gonna stop jumping! - but I need to decide whether or not I am going to jump with metal work in my leg.......... If not then I have to wait longer, go through more surgery to get it out before i go back........ I believe 621 had his plate removed..... you can see it in his bathroom!

aint that the truth - you have to pay to play!

congrats I too am someone that appreciates the pure feelings of going solo. just a couple of points from your post: 300+/- - what are you using for measuring the height of your objects that you dont know exactly the height of it? What is your +/- range as if your starting to get in the realm of sub300 then exact measurement is preferable to having a "rough idea". Also from your left hand side it says you have 5 jumps? - to go and start doing solos, your first SL's and from objects you dont really know the height of to me seems a little bit of newbie drive perhaps overriding sensible thought - dont get me wrong I am not flaming you for doing what you do and the way that you do it - I just dont want you to be in a position where that perhaps you miss out on jumping with more experienced people in your earlier jumps and you gain more insight and better grounding in skills........ I only say this as your past posts seem to be trying to find people to jump with and you seem to struggle to find these people and now you are posting about going solo with only 5 jumps.......... what happens next time when you cant get GC? will you then go pure solo? Be aware that pure solo opens up a world where, yes, you will have some amazing feelings, but aditionally it means that you could possibly die from something that you would not have if someone was there! Ask faber about when it goes wrong - I have watched the video where he lay in a dark field alone wrapped in his canopy after pushing his own leg bone back under his skin waiting for someone to realise where he may be! its a shocking story and perhaps faber would like to recall it? Dont get me wrong mate - I am not flaming - but having only been in the sport 2+ years myself I still remember the drive I had in my earlier jumps and I know look back on them and thank the world I did not hurt myself............ which is fucking ironic now as I sit at my laptop with a bust up leg from a simple jump!!! - shit can happen at the blink of an eye - unfortunaly recovery aint that fast!! Have fun be safe! Michael

I had the accident on May 14th and am due back in surgery (if my next set of X-rays shows that everything is ok) mid-July to have the long pin removed (apparently there is still a chance my tib and fib may spring apart when this is done and my consultant will then review! ) - Due to this long pin I am unable to weight bare during this period until after my next op - my leg already looks like an arm and PT afterwards is going to be a long and painful addition to the already frustrating journey... One of my concerns is about going back jumping with the metal work in my leg - due to the nature of the objects I jump I will have more high impact landings and I am not too happy with the fact I have metal in my leg should I break myself again - either the impact will transfer higher up my leg or the metal will shatter and in turn shatter my leg and ankle worse than before - not something I would like to happen after the memory from the pain of this accident and the complications that were possible due to my injury. I have spoken to people in both camps, some whom have said "dont jump with metal in your leg" and some that say "it has not caused me problems" (these are skydivers not BASE jumpers. If I opt to wait to have the metal work removed (which i need to discuss with my consultant the pros and cons of this and jumping) then my journey to getting back to jumping will be much muuch longer. Hey Dom, either you like to keep yourself active and pushing your limits or your just one real unlucky dude!! One thing I have learnt is that getting busted up sucks - its not just a matter of busted, recover, return - it opens up the doors of so many other shitty things!! To all in recovery - heal fast my friends......... smile and dont let the fuckers grind you down! Peace M
-
ah jesus dude! I feel for ya! I have a mate that has just gone bone grafts for his leg after a skydiving accident............. heal fast dude! a full metal BASE jump it is! I think it could be quite a big way!! keep on smiling and dont let the bastards grind ya down!! Peace!

the plate with 6 screws is in my fibula about 1/4 way up my leg from my ankle to knee, (you can also see the bottom of it in the pins pic) and the pins are in my tib and fib just above my foot (which you can see the top of in the bottom right corner of the pins pic)........

i have just read this (did it in one day seeing as i have alot of time on my hands) - I found it interesting and it kept my interest to the end............. I was brought up a catholic and went to a catholic school - by the time i was 10 I questioned what the fuck this religion was all about - after being told my confirmation was the time I could choose whether the religion was the path I wanted to choose, I said I did not want to and my teacher turned around and said "you have no choice" - that to me did it........... This book if anything has highlighted various other subjects I want to know about and I have ordered some other books covering these subjects........... M

nope we still have pounds and pence!!! Euros are a great idea (for us travelling) as we can go around europe and use the same thing everywhere - but its a good idea for that and I am hapy keeping the pounds!!

aint that the truth............

im sorry to hear that - one thing i have learnt with my ongoign inury is dont set yourself a goal based on what the docs say as if you dont achieve it, it becomes a real let down - I am not weight baring for what will be a total of 4 months, i then have alot of painful PT to learn to walk again and bring up the strength in my leg and ankle - Im out of jumping for about a year! - im not even thinking about jumping as i know if there is complications (which there maybe) in my next surgery it will be longer - so why bother thinking about something that can be moved - it makes you feel down when you dont achieve them..... jumping is not the be all and end all in life so focus on other things to help you mend - make sure you do everything right and dont do things too early because you get impatient............ Im sorry your goals have been moved - i know how that feels and its a real downer....... your only goal should be getting back on your feet - and dont put a time on it just make sure its your only aim. keep smiling and dont let the fuckers grind you down - 4 months is no time at all.......

I know this to be true as I did do some force testing on velcro and pins - what i was trying to say was that velcro will generally give a more consistant range of pull force compared to pins that can differ quite alot due to inconsistant pack jobs which you will have in your early packing. I much prefer pins for lower jumps and have a smaller pull force with my pin rig - but you can also pack in a way that you can increase this force considerably........... whereas velcro will generally stay the same no matter what shit you throw in the container.......... Also when i said lower freefalls I did not mean the sub200 or 200ft range - i meant in the 250+ft range............. sorry i know i dont explain myself that well sometime!
