  12. I think this doesn't correlate at all to what the poster was asking. A student has NO clue what the hell a riggers ticket is or how hard it is to get. We as skydivers know the value of a riggers ticket and, atleast for me, only go to riggers we trust whom we have met over time. I think the case with being a student is completely different. .-.
  13. ive had a high speed mal (no main canopy out) and the reserve came out fine. .-.
  14. I think someone already said it, but I looked up other stats, and 2 lane rural roads have the highest percentage of fatal car crashes. So I think this is probably the best statistic to use. .-.
  15. On a Statistics exam I had today there was a question regarding skydiving. Given that the USPA reported 33 deaths from skydiving in 2002 the probability of death from skydiving is about 1.163 per 100,000 jumps. The rate of fatal car crashes in the United States is about 4.8 per 100,000,000 miles driven on 2-lane rural roads. We first calculate the risk of dying from skydiving on any given jump: 1.163 / 100,000 = .00001163 We next find the probability of dying in car accident. 4.8 / 100,000,000 = .000000048 Finally, we determine how many miles one would have to drive to have the same risk of death as one skydiving jump. .00001163 / .000000048 = 242.25 miles I got the question all right, so that's cool. This does not take into account unreported skydiving deaths (obviously). Anyways, I thought it was somewhat interesting. Hope this hasn't been posted before. .-.
  16. that stretched all the way across the screen .-.
  17. so what are my options for getting to zhills from orlando airport. i cant rent a car so i need another option. im coming in on march 5th. thanks. .-.
  18. Actually....WRONG. The TSA may question the rig the first time but only the AIRLINE has the right to deny boarding. You don't really think some crappy little agency like TSA can compete with the airline industry's lobby in Congress do you? Actually....the TSA has just about NO legal authority. All they can do is call a cop if they find a weapon or a GSC (Ground Security Coordinator) if they have a "questionable" item. If you have a problem with a rig ask to speak to the airline's GSC. They make the final call. So you are telling me that if I get stopped at security and they say I can't bring my rig on board, I can say "too bad I'm walking through because you can't tell me what to do?" .-.

  20. well, it also depends on the sizes of all those items. i know that canopies in the range of 170-190 are popular because those are used often for new jumpers purchasing gear. also, the cypres depreciation would depend on if it needs its 4 year anytime soon or batteries. i guess one other thing that would be looked at is the size of the rig. whether or not it fits a common size person. (i.e. its not for someone who is 6'4 or conversely 5') but like he said, check the classifieds. .-.
  21. What are USPA's rules on doing tandems from objects other than aircraft, such as helicopters or balloons? I've seen pictures of tandem balloon jumps, but no idea if they were in US or not. Thanks. .-.
  22. ok so the show has taken a turn for the shit. .-.
