I didn't say, "Don't do this or that." I said to have a rigger watch him/her to make sure you do it right the first time. I always encourage learning as much as possible about your own gear. Changing a closing loop and cleaning cables is part of your A license requirements. That is something that I show all of my customers and students. I love working at a little big drop zone. It's personal. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

The only thing wrong with trying it out, is the amount of money you will have to pay your rigger to fix it. If you get your lines mixed up, they will have to do a full line check and sort them back out to the proper order. That will take time. And time is money. It is better to ask someone to watch you while you try. That way, when you are about to f@*! things up, they can save you the pain. It's really good that you want to learn about your gear, how it works and how to assemble it. Keep it up. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Should Illegal Immigrants receive safe harbor in US cities?
GravityGirl replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Would I be ranting if I pointed out that the INS holds double standards as to how they treat people coming from different countries? If you're from a certain part of the world and you have the right skills, the INS has an open door policy towards allowing people in and becoming permanent residents and citizens if they want. If you're from another country that has so called free-trade agreements, they'll let you in as a temporary resident (assuming you meet the oppropriate skill set), but bring up the idea of trying to obtain permanent status and the INS does everything in their power to show you the door and even threatens you with permanent bans. And if you're an illegal from Mexico, well they just turn a blind eye. Okay yes I was ranting. You're just bitter, because they didn't let you in. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Traveling with your rig & security.
GravityGirl replied to joewantaharley's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I always check my rig. Domestic and Internation. What damage are you concerned with? As long as it's packed in a gear bag or your luggage, it should be okay. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
Call up Tony Suits or Flite Suit. They usually have a dood deal of stock suits. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

>> First check the length of the brake lines. You should have about 2 -3 inches of freeplay in the brakes for front riser use/whatever. Any longer and the brakes will be very unresponsive. Any shorter and you run the risk of deflecting the tail. Gravity Gear!

I can see my statement was way too vague and possibly confusing. The Gath Convertible (Gedi), offers a "Class of Protection.": Simple design category (CAT.1) of the personal protective equipment (EC DIRECTIVE) regulations 1992. The Original Gath Hat does not have an official rating. There is no standard that fits into our needs or the needs of surfers. Most ratings cater to the motorcyle industry. However, the Gath has been beta tested over the last 12 years with good results. What you have quoted there applies to most skydiving helmets as well. Unlike motorcycle helmets or bike helmets, skydiving helmets are not designed for direct impact with a solid object. Do I think helmets such as the Mindwarp, Evo or Hurriccane offer more protection than a Gath? Yes. But not by as much as most people would like to believe. Most skydiving fatalities are caused by blunt force trauma. Even with a motorcycle helmet, such a high rate of impact can be fatal due to internal injuries and/or a broken neck. When purchasing a skydiving helmet consider helmets that are there to protect your head from glancing blows. To think that your helmet is going to save you from high force impact MAY give you a false sense of security. Instead you should be relying on your training to prevent high force impacts. I have a great article called, "Searching for the truth behind helmet design." It's quite informative, but very long. If anyone is interested in reading it, please PM me and I'll send you a copy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

On the days that you know you can make it to the DZ, plan a full family day. Make breakfast, pack a picinic lunch for the DZ, buy your wife some cool magazines or a good book, make a few jumps than go out to dinner together. Maybe if there is still daylight go to the park first then dinner. Just keep the family together. Do some stuff they like, and make sure you do some stuff for yourself too. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I can fax you the written documentation that I have explaining the different ratings and which ones each has. Right now I'm in Disneyland though, so it'll have to wait. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Disneyland, the happiest place on earth MY ASS!
GravityGirl replied to Girlfalldown's topic in The Bonfire
Greetings from Disneyland! Saw your boyfreind yesterday. He's hanging out with another skirt. Dumb ass! You went on the weekend! Even Jett know that Mon and Tues are the best days. Better yet if there is a chance of rain. The longest we've been waiting in line is 10 minutes. And that is for that stupid story book ride. But on everything else, we're running up to the front every time. I came once on the weekend and almost popped a blood vessel in my head. No more of that! I have to go eat with the Goofy now...... see ya! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
>>Short answer is, they're cheap plastic, don't expect much from them. On the flip side, no skydiving helmet is certified for impacts (except the Pro-Tec and that's the bicycle standard), so you pays your money and you take your chances.

And don't forget the Navigator. You can adjust the brake settings to your liking. In other words, you don't have to detune them like we do for students. I'm inclined to recommend an F111/ZP combo for you with dacron lines. Easy packing. Softer openings. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
Also, you may have to rotate your leg straps a bit to put them in the proper position. Crank them down hard and move them around to see where the "comfort zone" is. When you gear up to skydive, tighten them snuggly, but not painfull and rotate them to that "comfort zone". ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

How many jumps on each component? Is it a Sabre or Sabre2? Any damage to any of the components? Is the CYpres current or does it need a 4-year and/or battery? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -

FALLING OUT: PARACHUTING & 9/11
GravityGirl replied to AndrewStaich's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Bay Area Skydiving was definately one. I think some other Nor Cal DZ were also closed. That was one time that I thought maybe it's not a good idea for both of us to be in the aviation industry. As a commercial pilot, my husband got furlowed and my business was shut down. In hind sight it wasn't very long, but we didn't know that at the time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies!
