Need some help from the Bay Area Locals
GravityGirl replied to Bigwallmaster's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
FYI - Spring is not the windy season at Byron. We did 3 AFF students yesterday with a few levels each. We have two more today doing L2 & L3. This is a great time to do AFF in Byron. Weekday instructors include, myself, Connie, Vic and Clay. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
They don't glue. You should be able to stitch pick it. Get a good sharp stitch picker and do one at at time. Resist the urge to pull or tear. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

tcnelson is right on. That drag is your friend in the begining. Then as you progress to big way and finess flying, you'll appreciate the form fit. With your size, I would start off with a baggy cut for Firefly. It will last you a good long time. By the time you want a trim cut, you'll likely need this one for flying with students, etc. I vote baggy. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I HAVE TO DISAGREE HERE. With some brand containers built for some 170 mains, you MAY be able to sqeeze in a 190. With certain combinations, you will not be able to fit a 190 in it safely or otherwise. It's best to work with someone and sort out a plan for your intended canopy progression. This way you will get the best fitting rig for now and the foreseeable future. But to think that any container built for a 170 will accomodate a 190, will only leave you frustrated and pissed off when you can't pack the damn thing! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
-
I think you are mostly right. Most rigs that are built for a 190 will be quite loose with a 150. It depends on the design of the container if it will actually be dangerous or not. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I wouldn't toss it. Have someone take it up for a test jump to see if it's working. Then give it away if it is. There are loads of new jumpers struggling to be able to afford gear. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I wasn't saying that your package was not insured, I was just warning others that plan to ship gear, to make sure it is. Just take some deep breaths. Your gear will arrive. PM me if you want to hear some real horror stories of mis-delivered gear. All the companies do it. DHL left a package in the rain on a day when the DZ is closed. Yup. It was a brand new custom container. UPS delivered to the wrong business. A secured facility. And that was a nice adventure to get back. FED EX couldn't find us out here in the sticks, so they just left our packages in a warehouse and waited for us to call them. It had been there for over a week, and noone called the shipper or the receiver. Delivery companies are great..... until they are not! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Just a note. ALWAYS insure gear when you ship it. And declare a high value that will REQUIRE A SIGNATURE. Second. To the guy that shipped to Canada. I have actually contacted customs myself and found items on my own. I have done this in England, Canada and Sweden. Don't give up because some UPS employee did. Call yourself and be persistant. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I like to train new jumpers to look down at pull time. Just make a mental note of what the terrain looks like. If you travel a lot, it will take more time, because the terrain will look different from DZ to DZ. Also. I don't think that a Neptune is more reliable than an Alti III. The failure rate (from my perspective) is higher on digital alitmeters vs. analog. And if your needle is moving when you shake it.... it IS broken. Your dial should be quite stiff, and slightly recessed. It is near impossible to inadvertantly move it. And lastly, if you are making a habit of checking your altimeter against others in the plane, please realize that inside the aircraft altimeters can vary by 500 or so feet. So if yours says 6000 and your buddys says 6500, don't change yours to match his! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
-
First of all, your analog is broken. Use the warranty and get it fixed. Second, you are WAY to dependent on your instruments. You are doing yourself a disservice by relying on them too heavily. By 200 jumps you should have a sight picture for your pull altitude. Just my 2 cents. Worth what you paid for it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Before that, maybe you can give a call to her home dz and find out what's going on. I think it's Sky Knights. Skydiving is full of companies that are owned and operated by ONE person. We have this illusion of a big company, when it's really an individual taking orders, sewing, shipping, answering phones, etc. It's no excuse for poor service, but I'm just thinking there may be underlying circumstances. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Do I think it's risky? Yes. Do I think it's smart? No. Do I think you will lood cool? No. Do I think this is a good route for you to become a good canopy pilot? Hell no! If you want to be a bad ass, don't try to get a canopy to do the flying for you. Just cause the parachute is fast, doesn't make you a good pilot. YOU should become the good pilot first. If you can get your 150 to fly like a bad ass, then YOU are in control, and YOU are the awesome one. Any idiot can get a small parachute and land it. Only good pilots can make ANY canopy fly well. If you want people to say, "Wow! Who the hell is that?" Use your money to pay for jumps and not new equipment (Did I just say that?). It's the jumps and experience that will make you a great pilot. Not the parachute. Hope you tear it up out there! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Problems with airport security personnel?
GravityGirl replied to bastichu's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Do a search on Traveling with Gear or Rig. I do it all the time. SFO - AMS - CPH. I have never had a problem. Also within the US, no problems. My husband was told once that he could not take his rig as a carry on. But that airport has changed their policies. Some people have had some issues, so I suggest that search. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
I have jumped the PD and Smart within a week of each other. One intentional, one not. I would have either in my rig. I jump a PD, and actually prefer the flight characteristics a bit more. It comes in and out of the turn more gracefully. The smart took more corrections. It felt a bit like the old Triathalons. Both had more than enough flare, and neither felt like they had a quick stall point. I have not flown a R-Max yet. I have expereince on the MRs and one had a built in turn, the other didn't flare very well. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

fuck ya im getting a great deal offerd help!!!
GravityGirl replied to SkyDivinRyan's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Where are trying to buy this rig from? It is not appropriate for you, so it's not a good deal at all. First you need to get through your student progression and see how your canopy flight is going. Then determine which size parachutes you need. We can take a look at your measurements to see what size harness you need for your container. Then you can go shopping to see what great deals you can find. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
Everything skydiving related but my rig stolen

Here are some tid bits to take into consideration: Any 150 will feel significantly different than your 170. So if you leave out the Sabre2 150 and compare the other 150s against your Sabre2 170, it will be like apples and oranges. I'm going to suggest leaving out the Stiletto all together. The Sabre2 and the Safire2 have longer recovery archs than the Pilot. You have to decide if this is a feature that is desirable for you. Do you want to learn to swoop eventually? If so, then stick with the Sabre2 and try a Safire2 for comparison. If NOT, then try the Pilot vs. a Sabre2. The openings on all three are great. I feel the Sabre2 is the slowest of the bunch. Takes a little coaxing of the end cells some times. The Safire2 has a bit long toggle stroke than the Sabre2, if that makes sense. If you have more detailed questions beyond that, let us know. Good luck and have fun! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I'm married to a pilot, and I rather like the schedule. Well, most of the time anyways. We both skydive as well, so that helps. You should have no problems finding sky girls. You're hot, you fly a badd ass plane.... ....now all you need is your riggers ticket and you'll be perfect! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Can we please move this thread to the womens forum, so we can discuss, um, more in depth? When I grow up, I want to be a dirty old woman! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

My vote is suit for your size and experience level. The two piece is an option, but of all the two pieces I've sold, the tops end up staying in the gear bag and the customer ends up ordering a full suit. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Is that Parapak? Parapak highlights every wrinkle as well. So a nice pack job is very important. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
