How can i stop getting hangnails/messing up my finger cuticles
GravityGirl replied to Newbie's topic in The Bonfire
When I get hang nails and broken cuticles, I seal them with super glue. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear! -
There is no majic formula for downsizing. There are a few reasons to downsize. At your level and your exit weight, you will progress from canopy to canopy quickly until you get a proper wing loading with a conservative wing to start learning more about canopy piloting. In your case, I would be willing to bet it's a 170. Here you can start to use risers up high and actually get your canopy to move! You'll learn how to fly properly in the pattern with other parachutes. You can learn how to use the wind to fly instead of fighting the wind. So, my point is. For lighter jumpers, it's okay to go quickly from a Student 260 canopy to a good beginner canopy. Just make sure that you feel confident and in control of every size as you move down to that 170. If you feel like things are moving to fast for your comfort level on any given canopy, then jump one size bigger until you regain that confidence. Some students put 2 or 3 jumps in between sizes to get to that starting point and some 50 - 60. Trust yourself. Know your abilities. Know your limitations. And for goodness sake, have FUN! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Yup. It's official. The banks are making all of the money. Generally with a wire transfer ANY bank that touches it, yours, the sellers and anything inbetween gets to charge a fee. Almost every payment I receive comes up about $20 dollars short. Then on top of that my bank hits me for $15. But it's better than credit card fees on large dollar amounts. Hope you work it all out. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I know that when I receive an incoming wire from another country, my bank charges me $15 - $20 dollars. Is that what happened? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Helmet: Hurricane vs Bone Head Midwrap
GravityGirl replied to dropzone_moron's topic in Gear and Rigging
They are both great helmets. It really depends on which fits your head better. Can you get a measurement of your head circumfrance? Do you have any notible head charactoristics? Like long from forehead to back of head? Wide? Ears stick out. This could POSSIBLE help me determine which shape would be a better fit for you. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Suggested retail remains the same. So I don't think that this will effect the perceived resale value of used gear (by much). If you were heavily discounted on your kit purchase, then it may work out for you. But I could be wrong. I have been before. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I know that you are not going to use bleach, but just one more note about it. Bleach soaks well into the fabric. Packed into a rig it can seep out too and get on whatever it's packed against. I'm sure the bleach thing was a joke anyways. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

There was a collection of amazing photos this weekend. Anita Grundherr, also know here as CombatPackerBarbie (or maybe just PackerBarbie) is compiling all of the photos this week. She has amazing skills. We sat down and discussed the layout. I hope you all will love it. If you have any other photos that you would like to submit, send them to bonnie@gravitygear.com. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

We're in the same boat. But I would rather do Madonna than Sean Penn. Born: August 17, 1960 Actor Sean Penn is famous for his roles in Taps, The Game, Carlito's Way, and Thin Red Line. Your next closest matches were: Kevin Spacey Mel Gibson Bruce Springsteen ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Here is a pic. Please feel free to print it for yourself/enjoy it, but don't use it for anything public, it my be used as part of her memorial in Parachutist. What this picture doesn't show is the Jet that symbolized the missing woman as it peeled upward in the sky. I still have goose bumps reviewing the pics and typing this. You'll notice that some are raising their classes striaght up. That is where the Jet peeled up with red smoke and then the smoke cut.... it took my breath away. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I also wanted to thank Clay Bonevito, the new DZO of Bay Area Skydiving for making the Jet Missing Man Formation happen. That was a wonderful thing to do. Also the Jet Pilots said they were proud to honor someone that meant so much to so many. Byron love ya'll.... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

On a side (wind) note: After everyone left, Vic, Connie, Jett and I are closing up and I said, "Why is it every time we have guests in our house the winds blow extra hard to actually shut us down." Vic replied, "Because God wants Byron to stay a small drop zone." We laughed our asses off and went home. But really. It's not usually THAT windy at Byron. Oh and one more thing. On my way in to the drop zone this morning, I saw a white dove sitting in the middle of the road. That was pretty random. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I have, however had a pig tail get caught in a riser on opening. Fortuantely I had a good canopy and my hair didn't get ripped out. Now instead of two braids on the side, they are joined together in the back. Well. Actually, now I have short hair! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Sure. As there is with jumping without gloves. Or jumping a faster parachute. Or wearing tinted goggles in low light conditions. Or... or.. or.... Wearing my hair down under canopy is a calculated risk that I would be willing to take. I am not suggesting that anyone else do it. But I don't feel it's so dangerous as to not consider it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

Eek, I'd hate to think about having a riser tangle with the hair on a late cutaway. She would have to be flying in a very strange way to have her hair blow forward and into her risers. At what point does safety become paranoia? It's all about calculated risks and what you are willing to accept. The opportunity for a low wrap and cutaway exsists. But the odds of it happening at the same time as her hair blowing forward are pretty slim. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!

I knew a girl who had waist length hair. She would have it all tucked away in freefall and let it fly for the canopy ride. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Peace and Blue Skies! Bonnie ==>Gravity Gear!
