Well, the stock market (futures) is already down 5% tonight on the impending news. I'd told the missus that I was going to move to cash yesterday, but got distracted by failing computer problems and forgot until after the market closed.

Care to tell us what you and Skymamma where looking for when you googled that? Christmas wish list. Which of them, they aren't saying.

California 2016 ballot propositions
headoverheels replied to headoverheels's topic in Speakers Corner
As usual, we have numerous state propositions on the ballot. Nightingale used to do a good summary and review. Attached is a graph of poll results from a few days ago. I'm with the majority on 5, against on 4, and tied (as is everyone) on prop 61. There are also a number of local ballot issues here in San Jose, anything from the usual school bonds, to sales tax increase, to revising the way city employees can negotiate benefits. Perhaps unusual for me, I voted against the one proposal for gun control. Actually ammo control. Didn't seem that useful to me. Also a bit odd, I voted against extending the previously approved increases for the state income tax on the highest earners. Odd because I voted for them when I was paying the top rates, but now am unemployed and both my wife and I will retire in January, so I won't be paying the top rates any longer. I'm also very much against cigarettes, but voted against raising the taxes on those. I likely would have supported a smaller increase. -
That's your excuse? Well, we knew that about you.

IL Senate race - How to lose an incumbent seat
headoverheels replied to ryoder's topic in Speakers Corner
Yep, she talks the talk, and walks the walk . I donated to 3 senators in tossup races, but she was running so far ahead I didn't put any to her campaign. -
He reportedly kicked in another $10 million today. That would be about like me kicking in 10,000 so I'm not very impressed .

Who would issue this statement? Usually the candidate speaks for the party. There is no other spokesperson. After the election, the head of the RNC, or more likely the R congressional leadership. Trump will no longer be the candidate, just the former candidate.
-
It won't work well this time, either. They will just blame the Trump phenomenon as a one-off, and fail to address their problems once again.
-
Even if you write him in, he still will not get any votes.

October Presidential Polling: Who are you voting for?
headoverheels replied to DJL's topic in Speakers Corner
Wow, it seems that nearly all of Johnson's voters are on DZ. -
Bill in in California. No write-ins in the general election.

Long distance truck driving. There is a great job for avoiding interacting with people. Satan helped me apply. Assuming that you aren't that old, better start training for something else, since the self-driving vehicles are going to cut that profession in another few years.

So just as progressives have been saying, the gains are disproportionately for the top earners. There has been disagreement in the calculated inflation rate, as it affects SSI payments, for over a decade. The inflation rate was adjusted to reflect the fact that many of us now spend a higher percent of expenditures at cheaper vendors, such as Costco, Walmart, HD, Amazon, etc, and less at regular grocers, ACE Hardware, etc. So that helps to keep the cost of living down, if you live in an urban area that has the volume to support that type of store. If you are in a small community without such, then you have had a higher inflation, at least in the area of such expenses.

So what's going to happen in the final debate?
headoverheels replied to yoink's topic in Speakers Corner
His father has kept a low profile, and stayed out of the public eye since he died four years ago. Yeah, but is he still voting? -
