  1. Yeah, I got the same thing. But I think it is just because the other pictures suck! The only two that look decent are the little sky/funnel thing, and the fuzzy brush strokes. The rest look like RGB computer art of the 80s Malachi
  2. PC1, unmounted right now. Trying to find the perfect helmet. Malachi
  3. Drew, Do you have any pics of your camera helmet, I would be interested to see how you did it. Malachi
  4. Medic, Where you know them from? Like actually know where they jump? I was just curious, the Christian music community is not big, and neither is the skydive community. So I was really surprised I had not heard something about them. Malachi
  5. By the way Dave I just looked at the link in your sig, it looks like you have the makings for one heck of a site there. Very impressive Malachi
  6. Dave, I have bought plenty from mwave in the past. They are located in Texas
  7. A friend and I found about this band...http://www.switchfoot.com It would appear they are skydivers too. Go to the media gallery and watch the video called "you already take me there" It is totally centered around jumping and even has some cool footage. Plus the ground scenes are pretty accurate as far as rigs, etc. Anyway, I just thought it was kinda neat to stumble onto them. Malachi
  8. Hey guys, I am just curious because I will probably end up getting quick release plates anyway. But isn't there at least some snag risk using these plates? Considering the handle, etc. Malachi
  9. Well, the word was they were going to cater completely to the business market. I guess it all depends on how you see 'desktop.' Malachi
  10. Already seen it on this forum: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forums/showthreaded.pl?Cat=&Board=forumtalkback&Number=91632&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1#Post91632
  11. See what you get for asking us geeks? You expressly say, I want pre-fab, and what does everyone answer...Build your own! Well for myself I would build my own, but I really understand your position. I have the ability to fix anything that might go wrong with mine, a lot of people don't. I built one for my parents, and I am always fixing little simple things, because they cannot. Also, while you might be able to put one together cheaper that really only applies to people who know exactly what type of hardware they want, and it is usually high-end. For someone who is satisfied by average components it is impossible to beat some of the deals manufacturers have right now. That said, Dell freaking kicks-ass. I worked for a company that was a Dell reseller, and now I work for a company that uses Dell exclusively for our desktops. While there cases are proprietary, they are incredibly convenient to work on. Plus with their warranty, you will probably never work it. Their Complete Care package pretty much means you could accidentally drop your computer and they would fix it, onsite too. Pretty awesome stuff from my experience. Plus their components are decent, and their software bundles are cheap. And you can customize your machine. You can easily get a good computer with your choice of stuff and a 3-year Complete Care warranty for under $1000. So why bother with anything else? If I did not build my own I would buy Dell. As for Hewlett-crapper, they have always sucked in my opinion, they should stick to building printers. Packard-Bell is no longer making machines, and neither is Compaq. Don't buy one even if you find it, as support is going to be really tought to get when they no longer make desktops. They are shifting to all servers, and selling their desktop service contracts to external helpdesks. So, that is my 2 cents, anyway.
  12. Well I guess it all depends on what you are doing. I have about 115 and I am starting in the next few weeks. But I have done a lot of research, and I don't plan on going straight to tandems, I am going to limit myself to jumps I am already comfortable with, just fun jumping. Malachi
  13. I was wondering if it was really discontinued. Someone at tso-d told me it was. And he could not get anymore. Then I thought, well maybe Para-Gear will cut a deal. But when I called them, they said only the 1/2 Rak was being cut, and they could still get Batrak. I am wondering which is true? Malachi
  14. Yeah, I can understand that, hard to be too careful. Although I talked to one person that used a fin to mount his still camera in a vert position and a pc camera next to it. The main reason I am looking at side mounting, is because I really don't want to fly a ring sight unless I begin to make a living flying camera. And a side mount makes the pov of the camera at the same level as your eyes. My thoughts might be irrational too. Just guessing. Malachi
  15. Apparently, Bonehead is closing out the Halfrak. So I can get one for $300. I am sorely tempted, I have been looking seriously at a Batrak, which I think looks a little better. But it would be a long time, before I needed all the space on the Batrak, and I could save $120. Do you guys have any thoughts on the Halfrak? Malachi
  16. AggieDave and I pulled off our first 2-way stack this weekend. He was flying a PD210, and me a Sabre 210. So due to the f-111/ZP differeences it took a lot of flying to get the dock, and it was not as high as we would have liked. But it was our first attempt, other than some casual close flying. He held it for about 600 feet, before I dropped him so we could make landing approach. We were both screaming our heads off. Once we got down, we decided that from now on, we had to take at least one jump every weekend to do CReW. So now I am busy reading everything I can to get ready for more. The DZO said Dave could borrow a Sabre 233 from student gear, and we have found 2 other buddies with similarly loaded Sabre that have an interest. If we pull off a 4-way stack it will be the first time ever over our DZ.
  17. You are right. Have not been to the website, but I will check it out. The special features just got me more interested/confused. Watch the above movie if you have not, if you like Shakespeare at all it is hilarious. Plus Micheal Keaton is great in it...no wait, that is another Shakespeare movie where he says, "I am an Ass." Really leaving now. Malachi
  18. Slowfaller and WildBlue, exactly. And yes it was an excellent movie, best on DVD, because of the special features. So, what about 5 and 6? Hint, it has something to do with Shakespeare. I am going home. Friday, it is slow, and I am jumping tomorrow, it does not get much better. Malachi
  19. Wrong. Might be something close in fight club, but not that one.
  20. Well I will contribute to this, because every Friday we usually have movie trivia going around the office. Here are some from yesterday. And you might have a chance, because Dave is on his way to see me. Otherwise, I know he would have these in 30 seconds. What can I say, we grew up together. Oh and try not to just cut and paste from a search engine
  21. Exactly, there are plenty of extensions that your computer knows that you dont. If interested go look at all the file type registered in the registry. If you don't know how to get there, then you don't need to be there. But plenty of file extentions like .pif, .com, .reg, .dll you don't know what they are, but your computer surely does. And a box will NOT come up asking if you want to run it. Why? because those are used for internal system calls all the time, and if it asked you ever time, you would throw it out the window. Sorry to hear about your site Ann, maybe you should fire your hosting company. Malachi
  22. Damn, this is very hard to pick. So, I have 3 answers: 1. My first cloud cross-country. I opened straight out of the Cessna at about 11.5. There were scattered clouds all around in a huge circle. As I was headed toward on large one, the Cessna pilot was banking around me in circle, probably a couple hundred yards away. So, I make it to this large cloud, probably a mile long and 1/2 mile wide. The top is all uneven with canyons. I start carving in and out of the canyons. Due to some trick of the cloud or the thermal, I almost flying horizontally across the cloud top without dropping. I can see my shadow and a rainbow halo, maybe 50 below me on the cloud. I run the width of the cloud, then see a small hole on the far edge, I hook up and then back into a 360 spiral, dive through the hole and plane out on the bottom side of the cloud. I saw the Cessna make one more pass and then head for the runway. I was about 5k now, play around until final. It was a gorgeous jump. 2. My first night jump. Duran had come down for night jumps the night before the AOT boogie. My friend Rodney and I strapped on cyalume sticks and decided to do a 2-way. On the way to altitude I saw all this flashing to the south. It got my attention because this was the first week in the air after 9/11. As I looked closer, it was a huge thunderstorm, probably 100 miles away on the plains of central Texas. It was lighting up the sky with orange and red flashes. Exit time came, and Rodney and I did a linked exit and just held the 2-way. I could see all the lights, Granbury, Ft. Worth off to one side, and I could still see the thunderstorm on the horizon as we lazyly spun the 2-way all the way from 12,000. Then we broke and pulled. I came in behind the truck lights and surfed right into the peas. Gorgeous jump. 3. My next jump!!!! Malachi
  23. Wow, when will those be in production? Due to the quick release and unobstructed arms, I like those much better than wing suits. malachi
  24. Well all the searches I tried brought up hundreds of posts about quitting smoking. I guess I will keep looking, thanks for the advice.
  25. Recently smoke has become more popular due to the cool effects it produces in freefly tracking dives. I am curious as to the source. When I tried to find them about a year ago, when I was still into RW, I had a real hard time locating any. And everyone at my DZ said....oh, dont do that, you will burn something. So does anyone have any advice/sources? I want to try it sometime. Malachi
