Why throw rocks at a rock in the first place? illegible usually

Um...No Personal finances are very much a sign of a persons ability to excercise good judgement. There is a pretty decent correlation between a persons ability to manage money and a persons ability to manage other aspects of life. Just like everything else, there are exceptions, and everyone shoud be given the ability to explain WHY they have bad credit. (divorce, illness, loss of job, death in the family etc are good reasons. I bought a new 'vette and a big house and couldnt' afford the hookers and the coke are not) I know not everyone with bad credit is irresponsible, but the odds are in general against it. illegible usually

That's his big public "Fuck You" to the Feds. Doesn't do much to get people to pay 12.95/month. Rebels are cheap bastards. His fan base came from his ludeness and lack of boundaries, not for his political commentary. 12.95 seems a cheap price to pay for not having to listen to commercials (mostly) illegible usually

I hope it works out for everyone. It's a little closer for me but will still be a bit of a drive. Should be just as beautiful from altitude though, I bet the view of the ocean, and olympic's are great. I look forward to visiting as soon as our liquid sun goes away. illegible usually -
Don't worry Jeff, I thought the post was cute (like a little fuzzy killer chicken kind of cute) illegible usually

Although I doubt this will survive a head on with the 1st ammendment, it's a shame that our elected politicians think they can write such crap into law. I could almost forgive bush, since I don't think he's capable of independant thought. illegible usually

I've been luck enough to have had two bag locked caonpies *(not on the same jump fortunately) One stood me up. One didn't I vote for maybe, based on personal experience. Your milage may vary, though your response to the bag of shit shouldn't. illegible usually

And that time is getting closer. I am willing to bet that we will be jumping predominately solid state cameras within 2 years. The technology is already here, it's just a matter getting someone to put it all together just right. In this thread http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2011439;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread is a HD solid state camera that IF it works, could be the ticket. Yeah, it might not be GOOD HD, but it might be at least comparable to miniDV. I'm not too scared yet (but I'm still taking good care of my PC330!) illegible usually

Not entierly related to this thread but I just read in Consumer Reports that the average savings rate for Americans was -1.5% (Yes, negetive 1.5%) Scary illegible usually

The third leg is the property tax. While there is no federal property tax, all the states (so far as I know) and many localalities, have property taxes as well. Simply owning property should not result in taxation. illegible usually

I'm all for a consumption based tax in theory. My primary caveat is that the other taxes already in existance are eliminated. I'll get flack for this, but I also feel there should be an estate tax, this could be included at the same rate as the consumption tax, treated as a transfer. A system like this invites a very active black market though... illegible usually

Um Bill, I'm looking at something and it says "hecho en mexico" I suppose there are exceptions to everything... illegible usually

Moving is out of the question. I love where I live too much. I just have to play this one out, without burning any bridges. (which, incidentally, if there were a few more bridges over the Columbia river, I wouldn't be in this situation in the first place.) Beats the hell out of where I was a few years ago, laid off and wondering if I was going to find anything anywhere. illegible usually

At least we knew that his alcoholic relatives were not worthy of being president. (unlike the first Bush) illegible usually

Believe me I know Seattle traffic - It sucks! Right up there with LA and Houston. My current job is in Portland, which means I drive the POS I-5 bridge every day, it's about 45 miles each way but traffic means that I average about 2.5 hours a day wasted sitting in traffic. The new job would be about 20 miles of freeway, so about 45 minutes total. I'm really leaning towards it and let my boss know - the bastard offered me more $$ I asked him to let me telecommute instead, we'll see how it goes. Thanks for your replies... illegible usually

It's part of the equation for sure. It's about 260 hours a year I spend on my ass in traffic that bothers me the most. illegible usually

I know a little about mine rescue. The comment about two reserves is kinda close. It is possibel to have better rescue, but in reality, it's a WHOLE FUCKING LOT cheaper and easier to prevent explosions in the first place. illegible usually

I hate my commute, I love my job. I’ve recently been offered a job closer to home – Yea! Pros: I will save about an hour and 15 minutes each day in commuting time. I will have more responsibility. Cons: I will give up about $5,000 in cash and compensation a year. It’s about the same job otherwise. Care to discuss? illegible usually

The rescue equipment is what it is because of $$. It’s strictly overhead that will probably never get used. If it weren’t for strong MSHA regulations that require mine rescue teams, there wouldn’t even be any hope of rescue. There is often a reason that regulations exist, and that enforcement of those regulations is necessary. It’s because sometimes people really don’t care if someone else get’s injured or killed, as long as they can make some $$ from it. It is technically possible to have much better rescue equipment but it’s even cheaper to have properly functioning ventilation equipment and monitoring devices that prevent explosions in the first place. BTW: I once worked for a company (Safety Coordinator) that killed a few people in a mine, fortunately not where I worked, but I know the co-workers of those that died. We had pretty damn good systems in place, but still not enough. I know that if it weren’t for quarterly inspections by MSHA, many more miners would die each year. The report for that incident is here: http://www.msha.gov/FATALS/1995/FTL95M06.HTM illegible usually

Jimmy Carter is a very intelligent, articulate and compassionate Christian. His downfall was that he is another case of nice guys, while not finishing last, surely got screwed. The Iranian hostage thing was clearly orchestrated, and being the man he is, he chose to continue to try to help people in need instead of trying to tear the country apart. One thing is clear about Mr Carter, you know where e stands, and can believe that he believes what he says. That is a rare quality in a politician. illegible usually

Re: [shunkka] CNN reporting they found 12 miners alive!
EricTheRed replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Agreed. The news is no longer that. It hasn't been for quite a while now unfortunately. It will continue to suck as long as people watch the 'news' to be entertained, not informed. The goal of CNN NBC CBS FOX ETC os to sell you stuff you don't really need, not educate you or inform you. Is it any wonder that they f-up? illegible usually -
