Pandemic could kill half million in U.S. - report

I thought this thread was due for a bump http://www.voanews.com/english/2005-08-02-voa32.cfm Hopefully, China isn't lying to the WHO again. http://www.the-scientist.com/news/20050802/01 Hard to know since they have closed all research facilities affiliated with 'outsiders' and started to jail journalists that try to report on the disease. illegible usually -
If we can't kill them, at least we can embarrass them...
EricTheRed replied to StreetScooby's topic in Speakers Corner
Not that they didn't try per the article... "He said the princes had an inferiority complex that rendered them impotent when they tried to have sex with European women." I thought it was funny. Tacky, but funny. illegible usually -

Hey, BTW whatever happened to all the talking head conservatives I used to know that liked to say "Better dead than RED" Have they all turned into a bunch of pussies that would trade the USA for a warm bed and a cozy dictatorship? illegible usually

Ah, you seem to choose to ignore another part of the constituiton....Amendment XIII (1865) The bible does not have an "Amendment process". And that is the problem with Religion. No room for improvement or acceptance of new information. illegible usually

How about a bigger cooler instead? What good is a bigger cooler without more beer? illegible usually

And after about ten years, a few of the folks that predict that this will bring about the end of civilization as we know it will take a trip to Canada and find out... That nothing has really changed. illegible usually

More than one answer? Is light a wave or a particle? Yes. Hey cool, Finally a discussion here that has meaning. Another question, do particles actually exist, or is what we percieve as solid matter just a manifestation of combined waveforms? illegible usually

That would be "hedging your bets" the logic is sound but IF there is a god, would it really accept belief based on the most logical choice as sincere worship? illegible usually

What can we do about Skyride?
EricTheRed replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
And what effect is that going to have? (Not being a smart ass but does this really have any effect?) illegible usually -
Yea, trying to ruin someone's life (regardless of their status) just because their husband tried to tell the truth about an issue like nuclear weapons is a totally acceptable way to run a government /sarcasm off/ I don't care if she was covert, or if Rove named her. What I do mind is there is no longer any sense of fair play or MORALITY in the White House. IMO it's immoral to try to get revenge on someone because they 'snitched' on you. At least as immoral as getting a BJ. One is a betrayal of trust between man and wife. The other is a betrayal of the national interest. illegible usually

So, in your opinion, God killed 50+ people in London on July 7? illegible usually

The people praying had faith. Faith and prayer does exhibit an effect similar to the placebo effect but praying for someone else is pointless. BTW, no need to pray for me, save your prayers for yourself, as you are the only person that can possibly benifit from them. As I said, god (doesn't matter which one) doesn't listen to you. illegible usually

Prayer does you no good http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000085&sid=adC8Tv0rlwBk&refer=europe I guess god doesn't care about these guys anyway. Maybe your results will be better (or not) illegible usually

From here... I knew this was coming, just tried to head it off at the point. Yes Gravity master, Clinton was a slut, and a snake and sold out our country in some areas. The fire sale of our nation continues under the current admin, they just keep reducing the prices along with the erosion of our freedoms. The answer? Stop apologizing for their F-ups and try to elect someone that will actually represent the PEOPLE of the US. Not corporations that shelter their profits offshore, not Mexico, not Saudi Arabia, and not China. Get your own back bone, stop using someone else's rhetoric. (not directed at you, storm, just a general statement to those that think your "party" is more important than your country.) illegible usually

About the same time frame that they learned to clone the navigational systems and radar system of the Russian MIGs that they bought. the Chinese are pretty damn good at copying things (and not too bad at engineering either) The fact that under Clinton, we fucked up does not excuse the current administration from ANY responsibility that they have to protect our nation. Believe it or not, Bill has not been president for a few years now. Who do you blame for 2000-2005 on? It's time for all you Clinton haters to start looking at the future, not the past. illegible usually

And demand those little things like safety equipment breaks clean restrooms lunch facilities a sink to wash your hands overtime While most Mexicans do currently work in agriculture INITIALLY, many migrate to other industries. As more manufacturers learn that they can pocket a bit extra $$ or charge a little less (and thereby gain market share and still pocket more $$) they also move to immigrant labor. Treaties that encourage unfair trade (like NAFTA) tend to force US employers to try to cut labor costs as well. I just returned from a client that told me that he just had to fire one of 'his' Mexicans because they had gotten "too American" and wouldn't work hard enough and wanted more money. It is not a simple problem but it IS a problem. illegible usually

“If the Americans draw their missiles and position-guided ammunition on to the target zone on China’s territory, I think we will have to respond with nuclear weapons,” http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,3-1695360,00.html illegible usually

With a similar GPA and like coursework, I'd hire the person that mowed lawns. Shows more drive. The guy that worked at Boeing probably just had connections. illegible usually

So you know, I have. I work with illegals on at least a weekly basis. It's very sad the conditions that they endure in order to try to give themselves a better life but we are subsidizing the poor choices of their governments. If we allow every person from a third world country free, unrestricted access to our country and continue to provide them with the full range of social services, the US will soon look just like the place that they fled from in the first place. Where will we go then? There is nothing wrong with limiting reproduction. The ability to plan when to have children and how many children to have has a direct impact on wealth, health and social stability. Fix the problem, don't export it. illegible usually

OK a couple of real points for you. The "native americans" weren't the first people here anyway. Google Kennewick man. There were others first. Truth is the first "humans" were probably north african so why don't we just have everyone else go somewhere else. The fact is that people that are citizens (that means they are actually here legally) have the right to say that NON-citizens need to apply to become citizens before they set up shop. There are many reasons to ignore this inconvenient fact but it pretty much comes down to greed. If the countries that all the mass migrations of people are coming from had sensible policies regarding birth control and family planning, there would be a lot less need for them to migrate in the first place. Unfortunately, an ever increasing population is required for MOST existing political and religious systems to continue their quest for unlimited growth. We should close our borders to UNCONTROLLED imigration, deport all illegal aliens, and push other nations to adopt laws that promote family planning. Try getting elected on that platform though... illegible usually
