  1. I'd like to motion to amend the rules of life, do I need to fill out any paperwork?
  2. (sadly?) this is not a narcotic episode.
  3. Ever wonder who just decided one day that .5 gets rounded up? Ever wonder where we'd be if the decision was made to round it down?
  4. a couple professors I knew back at U of I were working on applications of this kind of thing http://www.physics.uiuc.edu/Research/QI/ one of my favorite concepts is that of transmitting information using single photons. it's kinda like using a messenger pigeon that can fly at the speed of light - no possible way of evesdropping.
  5. I have a great 3-hole punch too, if something needs to go in a binder, I just give it to someone else, and ask them to put it in a binder.
  6. I was thinking black screwdriver... probably because there's one sitting on my desk.
  7. It went on my resume because I was president of the skydiving club at my university for a year. I probably wouldn't mention it otherwise unless your interviewer asks. The department head at a company I interned with was a "fact chucker" who was always sure to update me on injury statistics and clauses that insurance companies and professional athletes / actors had regarding skydiving being too dangerous. At my interview for the company I'm at now I was first asked about my role as president and that slowly drifted off on a half hour tangent discussion about how I used the rental car they had given me to drive out to perris the day before. /edited to add: oh right so suggestions? I'd say if you can mention skydiving or other hobbies in a way that demonstrates personal strengths that will be useful to the employer, then good, put them on there. but don't write, "Skydiving is a blast and I wouldn't spend my weekends any other way!"
  8. actually I think georgia is the land of coke I'm pretty sure you can be legally shot for drinking pepsi within the atlanta city limits. I grew up near chicago and I call it soda, but now I live in SoCal, I guess I'm finally "with my people"
  9. [X] Review and sign off on test data (actual work) [X] Get new california title/registration/license plates for my car. [X] Find ringtone on the internet for my new cellphone that is actually the sound of a phone ringing and not annoying music because my phone didn't come with one.
  10. it depends, how long do people end up on hold for? if it's going to be short like a few minutes you can use just about anything... a Steve Martin stand up album maybe?
  11. Now, he's the nicest old guy on earth, but I give him shit about it anyway... A friend of my Dad's lives in Montana and has, at the very least, 14 vehicles (including several trailers, a bulldozer, and few snowmobiles for good measure) which he keeps very neatly arrainged in the overgrown meadow near his house. He claims they all run, but I'll believe it when I see it.
  12. yeah I've used those cardboard tubes for dozens of motars in the past, you just have to dump them out every so often and make sure the lip doesn't get bent or frayed too badly. I did have one tube burst / low explosion a couple years ago, but it's really not that big a deal, you have to be ready for that kinda thing when you're playing with fire.
  13. and if they take their kid to the movie it's one child and one senior. again... think of the savings.

    Summer School

I could have gotten started on grad school this summer, but I didn't want yet another thing to worry about during the whole moving and getting started at work period. Next summer I'll probably take a class just to keep my semesters down to two courses at a time.
  15. although as a note, the Emancipation Proclamation didn't really do anything I think it was the 13th amendment that formally "freed the slaves"
  16. well as a kid it sucks to have young broke parents in a crappy relationship that break up/divorce when you're 10-20 years old. It also sucks to be 10-20 years old and go to your parents' funerals. But as a kid, you don't really get to make these decisions do you?
  17. Or refuel a portable container that's not placed on the ground, or get back into your vehicle and then back out again, both can (and have) caused several vehicle fires, particularly in drier areas and winter months. Has there ever been a case of a cellphone causing a refueling fire? I don't think there has. /edited: damn, billvon keeps beating me to all the nerdy EE questions... just as well though, he's been doing it longer than I have...
  18. I actually count the time out during every freefall, sure I have a protrack, but those can be off but as much as two seconds can you believe that?
  19. that must've been a nasty break... I think I've dislocated and/or broken just about all of my fingers at some point and have never had anything a splint hasn't fixed. ouch...

I've just about forgotten what rain looks like...
  23. So if every different person's method of thinking is going to be based on everything that's happened to them since conception... and each man and woman is a different person (hopefully) then can't we say that men and women don't think alike? Someone needs to bust out some Venn Diagram action up in here...
  24. Haha, good. I'm not the only one this occured to. There may be some engineer left in you yet Tomas...
