i cant find a 30mm .5 kenko so i bought a 37mm. first q' is 7mm to much of a step? 2nd- i cant find a 37-30mm stepring on line. i did a lot of searching to no avail. anyone know where let me know. >
-
yes it is true. you cant zoom with the flat one piece wide angle. im currently in the same situation. go with a kenko lens.there cheap and work well. i cant find a .5 in 30mm. only 37mm. so i bought one anyway and now need a step ring which i also cant find. >

Camera choice, advantages of buying Sony??
livenletfly replied to andyflylife's topic in Photography and Video
what are your intentions? freefly wear and forget it video, tandems, 4 way, ext.... do you intend to work in the sport through video flying? > -
parasport's evo with a chin cup is under 200 dollars and works great for freeflying. you cant mount a still cam so its no good for tandems or 4 way. its also a great looking helmet. ive seen them as cheap as 140 dollars. >

Camera choice, advantages of buying Sony??
livenletfly replied to andyflylife's topic in Photography and Video
my freefly coach dusty has had his sony for 6 years with over 5000 camera jumps. never had a problem with it.andy farrington hashad his for 10 years with thousands of jumps and no problems. ive frapped in wearing mine, trashed my helmet but the camera still worked. i even fully submerged it in the swoop pond and let it dry out for a few days and again... it still works!!!! everyone i know who didnt buy a sony has had their cam breakdown within a few hundred jumps or so and one guy had a non sony shit the bed in the first week. they all bought sony after theres broke. my old pc 101 had over 2000 jumps on it when i sold it and its still works great for my buddy i sold it to. nuff said. thats why 99% of vid guys jump sonys. plus good luck finding accessorys for other brands, such as carbon fiber boxes, cam eyes extt... dude just get one. dont even think twice about it. you/ll be happy you did > -
what were the winds doing that day? it looks like the lager canopy with weight belts is really paying off for these guys. 525 that flippin amazing! >

What kind of forward speeds to swoopers reach?

omar was clocked at just under 80 mph on a downwinder!!!!! > -
WOW!!!!!!! roflamo!!! i would give up a pinky to see that video. that is the funniest shit ive evr heard! a muthaflipping blimp!! man im crying from laughter >
-
that would only happen if your main came out after your reserve has fully inflated and flying forward. if the main came out as soon as the reserve left the container you would still be in line stretch with downward speed over 70-80 mph and the main being pulled by the p/c would go right into the reserve. >
-
that sounds good. use your rear risers gently to turn helps keep things stable. do not unstow the toggles on either canopy. id probably chop a side by side though. cool be safe doc. blue skies >
-
glad to help. just aout of curiosity, what would you do in a 2 out situation? >
-
actually big O, the main has a very good chance of coming out once the reserve pack tray is empty loosining the tension on the main pin. or sometimes the pin is extracted but the bag is stuffed tightly in the container. this is called container lock. this is why its good to give your container a few good elbows. this usually gets the main out. the third reason is burble. the pilot chute and or bagged main can get stuck on your back in a burble. this is why i shake side to side. this will eliminate the burble setting your pc free. in all 3 of these common scenarios you will end up with 2 out. which is why i dont cutaway first on a pc in tow. so keep that in mind. whether you go for siver or red then silver there both acceptable just make sure you know what may follow. >
-
first ill ram my elbows against my container to try and dislodge the jam up while rocking side to side eliminating a possible burble then go for my reserve. theres pretty good odds the main will come out once the reserve is out, but id rather have control over when the main gets realeased if neccassary rather than jettison my main into the deploying reserve once it becomes dislodged. thats one way to skin a cat >

Wow, I'm shaking just typing this.

we all know how you feel. i didnt sleep for 48hrs after my first jump. my palms would sweat just thinking about it. ive never been the same since. 3 years 1000 jumps and 35,000$ dollars later i still cant sleep some nights thinking about skydiving. welcome to our common bond, you'll meet some of the best people in the world within this awsome sport. o by the way. it only gets better and better, you'll see!!!! > -
Hard Deck vs. Minimum Cutaway Altitude
livenletfly replied to Reginald's topic in Safety and Training
chop of coarse. 1100 feet ill take my chances that my reserve will open in time. ive seen a canopy collision and chop under 700 feet. it was close but opened with time for a flare, rsl probably helped. anyway hardeck for me 1800. reason being this, jumping and understanding my aad and main canopy. my main takes around 800 ft to be pressurized, aad's can actvate up to 200 feet higher than the supposed 750 ft depending on body posistion. deploying lower than 1800ft can result in two out very easily. id rather not be dealing with that shit under a 1000ft if at all possible. people should know there gear inside and out. its amazing how many people ive run into in 3 years that have no idea how much altitude lost during opening. and many dont know there aad can fire at 1000 ft if not belly to earth. know your gear folks!!! > -
yes sir they sur are purty. ill be ordering soon. no flames though. circles are so hot right now. j/k >
-
flames are way old. check out ouregan suits if you want something unique. they're all one of a kind designs and NO FLAMES!!!! but if thats what your into then dont listen to me. >
-
solo or not shouldnt make a difference on pin checks. you can still take the plane and all souls aboard to the ground with a premature deployment on exit. freeflyers can be killed on a premature opening as well no matter who's out there. just my 2 cents. personaly i mostly do my own pin checks. i check my reserve and cyprss only once in the begining of the day. my main, i keep a very tight closing loop and check it before i put my rig on, and then feel back there before exit along with my handles and chest strap. i dont like getting pin checks from people i dont feel are smart heads up and gear knowlegable. ive seen people screw up the bridle and or not properly closing the main flap. this to me is more dangerous than me checking my own gear. mostly i trust myself more than anyone else, so i like to know my pin bridle and cover are how i want them. >

IMO 58 jumps in one year is NOT current no matter what the bsr states. when i refer to being current im not talking about min jumps to stay liscensed. current to me is the feeling of confidence, strengh and control that comes from jumping alot in close succession. during the jumping season i feel at my best doing 15-25 jumps a week, around 400 a year. (we have a short season in the n.w.) im my opinion doing less than 250 jumps per year isnt staying very current.if your only doing 50 jumps a year your not getting all there is from this awsome sport. many people never get to feel the confidence that comes from jumping alot unfortunatly. but when you do it will all make sense, and the word current takes on a whole new meaning besides the uspa definition of the word. >

i agree with you andy. being able to switch to tandem on the fly so to speak makes little sense. you cant do tandems with sport rigs no matter what, so theres absolutly no reason you would need to change this mode with out opening the container and installing the unit in a tandem rig. so this feature seems to only add risk without rerward, as seen in solly's case. that is of coarse assuming it was an error by the user and not tampered with. time will tell, if this happens again its obviously not as hard to do as previously thought. it sounds more likley that having the same unit do three different jump modes is more cost effective. that is the only reward i can think of. this is not a bad thing, but it needs to be idiot proof so to speak,as to not put jumpers in danger. i for one want the vigil to be a success. i dont care for not having much of a choice in life. ive always thought parts of the airtech maintenance squedule is bullshit and unesessary. and the fact that the unit is worthless to us after 12 years is such a flippin scam. airtec is happy as hell cuz it meant guaranteed sales and support for the future. so good luck vigil i hope to be a customer of your soon, but since you dont give me a paycheck, you'll have to work all the bugs out on someone else. >
