  1. hell yea, variable direction 50mph gusts!!! sounds like a hoot. as long as someone in the landing are has a cell phone. dial 911 but dont hit send till were on final. yee-hawww!!!! >
  2. i can tell your really hurting joe. they were beautiful people and are beautiful souls. honor them by helping more newbies. honor them by never taking a single skydive for granted. honor them by living your life moment by moment. never forget how much we all mean to eachother. take care of yourself bro. i hope you find peace. jeff >
  3. i met sara and yonatan this year in puerto rico. i am now even happier to have gotten the chance to meet sara. my girlfriend caryn was also one of the packers at the p.r. boogie. she must have said 100 times how much she liked you both and was looking forward to next year. please take care of yourself my friend. i am so sorry this happened. jeff blue skies ron and sara >
  4. i prefer hooking the rears with my thumbs and pulling out. i started out pulling down on them but tended to over apply them then having to go a little deep in the toggles after letting up killing some speed. pulling out seems smoother, just enough to trim the canopy flat. it also prevents me from feeling i have the option to dig out with them since its a weaker motion. >
  5. theres many ways to skin a cat. i usualy start my turn with one front riser, bringing the canopy around 180 to double fronts. dusty smith calls this "setting" the dive. this alows me to have room for error. if im high i can keep her diving, if im right on, ill let up smoothly with time to go to rears. i, like canuk also sometimes will start with double fronts. i get her diving real steep then let up on one riser slowly to bring the canopy around. ive been taught both methods by very repuatble canopy coaches. i just prefer setting the dive at the end of my turn, but theres no right or wrong either way as long as its doing the trick. goodluck >
  6. no problemo, thanks for the skydive fri. that was rad! come back again soon and play skydiver with us. hope your scouting trip went well. how far is that? maybe ill come up there and shoot video if sdo can let me go for a weekend. let me know. my car is a 1995 piece of shiet. so if you got room ill help drive stu. peace >
  7. dont get me wrong, the velo is definatly way more canopy all around. the veng is alot like a little brother. other than the sink factor the feel very similar as far as front riser turns, and pressure. the velo also has twice the lift during flare. the only other canopy ive flown is the crossfire 2. this i felt was very different from the veng. but i liked it so much i ordered a crssfr2 99 for my camera jumps. velo is a little two sensitive to body position for a camera suit and a bunch of shit on my helmet. thanks for the heads up. i wil be very careful. peace j >
  8. jumped my new velo96 today. its an amazing canopy. sweet soft openings, killer dives and lots o lift! im posting to say what a great stepping stone the vengeance was. i have 600 jumps on my previous canopy a veng 120. the flight characteristics are very similar. i actually was suprised how comfortable i felt flying my velo for the first time. anyone else go from a veng to a velo? i >
  9. latley freefall is rad but its just the means to open my canopy and rock out!!!! i love my new velo! >
  10. while were bashing gile, how about a thanks to the vid guy!!!! fucker! >
  11. right, theres definatly more guys to girl sdiver's. i think the percentage is higher of guys who get ratings for how many there are in the sport. im having a hard time putting this into words. sorry, im sleepy. >
  12. thats a good q. i never thought about why. i think its because more guys get ratings than girls. so girls that want to work in the sport but dont feel ready or dont want ratings manifest. what ever keeps us in the air and close to the smell of jet A. >
  13. you know what would be great. have a post about this topic. include not wanting to overun dz. with a bunch of ads. talk about how much this site has helped us all as well as saved lives and provides the best used gear listing. then maybe have a pledge option. like i would pledge 5 dollars a month on my cc to keep this site "free". kind of like public broadcating system, (pbs). i think he would make alot more money this way. people more willing to give if they know the situation. keep in mind some may pledge alot more. i feel if everyone knew what youve informed me alot of members would help out. i know i would. it would add up to alot more than a small handfull of premier members. at just 5 bucks a month, thats 60 $ a year times how many registered users?= alot of money! i will stand by my original post though. i dont feel the extra goodies are worth 10 bucks a month nor do i feel they would be usfull to me. however if hh was to ask me for a small donation to keep things the way they are.... no problem. >
  14. no shit! wow see this is why i asked. i am very appreciative of his sacrifice. im a better skydiver cuz of the knowledge made available here. but im also broke as a joke cuz i made a commiment to this sport. why not expand the ammount of advertising available on dz.com. >
  15. thats why i am asking. to see the usefullnes of them. this was my opinion not a dig at dz.com. just because i learn alot doesnt make me want to pay money. thats what the advertising is for. just like a radio station. i dont pay to listen to the radio, the advertisers do. >
  16. i read up on this premier membership stuff and cant figure out why you would pay money for those extra features. they dont seem that much better. actually they seem kind of useless and fabricated to make money. it also pretty darn expensive for the services. my q' is this, what feature do you feel is worth close to 10 bucks a month, and how many times have you used these special services? >
  17. that a great idea! nice thinking. or we could borrow their gear and hook it in to show them how ugly it looks. lol j/k >
  18. yes it does sound unethical, but what if it means saving his life? wouldnt some bruises and scrapes be worth that. not to mention downwinders happen often. so he's going to have to do it eventually. i understand its a fine line im suggesting, thats why i stated this may be going to far, but what better way to show him the trouble he's getting himself into. you can show him all the incident reports, and video of jumpers pounding, but until he's under the strings scared shitless realizing he's in over his head he'll just dismiss it to "that wont happen to me, im different". >
  19. wow he's really going to get hurt or killed. all he sees is 3 awsome swoopers instead of the thousands of jumps and years of experience it took to be able to fly hp canopys safley. well all you can do kim is inform urban of your concerns. then its up to him, its his dz and his consous if this kid dies. if he doesnt change its in fates hands, hopefully he'll just femur and not die or kill one of yall. bummer good looking out though. p.s why didnt you come up for the swoop comp? dont ya like us? >
  20. i can honestly state from everyday occurences that my dzo nevers put a price tag on the saftey and lives of our students, staff,or fun jumpers period! skydive oregon may have alot of rules, but its the safest dz ive ever jumped at. the rules are very clear, very fair, and very much enforced. the dz gear and aircraft are maticulously maintained and cared for. as a matter of fact things like drouges and line sets are replaced even sooner than the manufacturer's recomendations. Imo, things like this are very honorable and exellent examples of not putting money before saftey. >
  21. i think that the dz in question is totaly fucked up putting a pilots carrer on the line without consulting with him first! if their rigger wants to pencil pack the rig putting his name on another riggers pack job so be it. at least he has a choice, unlike the pilot. i agree with the comment, "what else does this dz let slide?" also why was this jumper so unwilling to let the dz rigger re-pack him? from his point of view he should have been stoked. he gets to jump, and he needs the repack anyway. so does he not trust that rigger? the whole situation is shady and in poor taste. is all that potential trouble worth a few slots on a plane? NO IT IS NOT!!!! >
  22. kim what does urban think about this guy jumping a 1.4 w/l? maybe have stu or gile talk to him. they may be more effective getting through to him. at least try to get him to wait until he has 100 jumps. either way id hope urban would be concerned about this guys well being. just out of curiosity whats this guy like? ie.- attitude, canopy skills, awarness, age, has he ever landed down wind or cross wind in his massive 25 jump carrer! i dont know if this is going to far but.... take the load down wind, he may get banged up alittle but that might scare him enough to chill out. >
  23. koodos's thats a great idea. do you have hard openings more often with this bag? that would be my only concern. but to not have the bag tipping side to side during line stretch sounds awsome. you must have alot more head on openings. >
