  1. lots of jumpers go alone. ill be there from march 13th till the 21st. i prefer to go alone. you do more different jumps than going with your crew from the home dz. plus it makes you more outgoing to meet more people. some i met 7 years ago my first trip there and have been good mates ever since. just go. i too have never done a solo there and have 3-400 jumps at eloy. >
  2. how in the hell will this stunt cost 4 million dollars!!! does anybody else think that seems a bit outrageous. how much proxy flying does jeb do? ive always seen him as an aireal base jumper more than a proxy flyer, but its not like i follow his base career as closley as some do. my 2 cents, its possible but very unlikley surviveable. >
  3. to be honest my opinion is to give a solid effort to get very current and see if it improves. if not you should consider the fact that your fear is putting you and other jumper in harms way. even if your doing solos when jumpers are as pegged out as you are describing i gaurentee your not adequatly looking around for other canopys while flying yours. in this state of fear you tend to have tunnel vision looking only straight ahead and your audible senses and general awarness are strongly diminished. theres no shame in thinking about taking a break or leaving skydiving. its not for everyone, but any jumper continually on the verge of panick attacks and too scared to jump with others really has no buisness skydiving. remember its not just you that can be hurt or killed up there. im sorry your in this situation. it must be very frustrating, but ask yourself this. in your current state of fear, are you really truly enjoyiong your jumps? cuz this sport is too dangerous to do unless your having the time of your life. >
  4. stay safe out there folks. remember lots of un current jumpers that arent use to that many canopys in the air at one time. sadly this will be my first xmass not attending the holiday boogie. i will be going somewhere else due to the landing restrictions at sdaz. ill miss you guys lots, have a merry safe holiday experience!!! >
  5. i agree, not the first time js has made me question his character. i do know kevin and what i know is he is probably the model for a high profile competitor. he has integrity, knowledge, great attitude, one hell of a guy! basicly i cant say enough good things about k love as far as js goes, .... well he's done a lot for swooping. and thats all i can think of at the moment. obviously not one of my favorite people in the sport. his press realease on the matter doesnt suprise me one bit! >
  6. awww stu-y sooo humble. thats why you rock!!! >
  7. just so you know you may not want to openly discuss this tyype of manuver. like diablo stated, it can and has gotten people fired and fined. it is an awsome visual though!!! >
  8. god wyat i cant believe your gone. you touched so many lives in and out of the sport. im so thankful we got to talk days before you left us. i know this is only the begining for you. for us we must go on as you would have wanted. we will take all the knowledge and warmth youve passed on to us and share it with all. YOU made this sport safer for everyone, that is your legacy. there is a void in the sport that will take a long time to fill. there is an empty place in our hearts right now that only the sharing of memory's of you can fill. i love you. we all love you. shred the cosmos with the style and grace that inspired an entire sport!!!! until that day that i am called back home, goodnight wyat. with love jeff >
  9. swooping is a casual term for the dicipline of "high performance landing". its not an actual method of turn. the 2 turns you refer to would be called a "carving turn" and a "snapping turn". again these are more or less loose terms i dont think theres actual definitions for them. thats just what we call them in my area. it could be different where your at, but a swoop is not a turn. hope that helps clarrify things. and yes a carving turn is a more efficient and safer method of swooping. peace >
  10. hi flip, thankyou for not attacking my post like so many others do on the forums. i looked for the bsr proposal and couldnt find it in saftey and training. i think many of us are assuming what this proposal says because we havent read it. if its posted please tell me where. if its not then why not start a thread with it. i started out completly against this type of action, but the more i read about the proposal the more i keep thinking this may be a good thing and i may want to get on board. i agree something should be done. i know of a very busy dz that hosts alot of swoop comps that the dzo is refusing to sepperate the lz's. in fact the SWOOPERS took the time and resources to sepperate the landing area by digging a line in the field and filling it with sand so it was visible from the air. this line would have sepperated the hp area from the main area i was amazed to hear that instead of a pat on the back for making things safer these up jumpers where reamed for doing this and forced to vacume the sand out and fill in the line!!!! the dzo refuses to sepperate the areas with no valid argument as to why. maybe a bsr would get dzo's like this one to wake up and help make things safer. i dont want to loose anymore freinds to avoidable accidents, but i also dont want my dicipline of choice to be railroaded out of the sport. i think some of us feel that the sport of swooping is being attacked. how do we get swoopers to feel that its actually trying to be preserved by these changes. im starting to think that the biggest threat to hp landings is not this brs proposal. the biggest threat is if nothing is done to make things safer. if people keep dying banning swooping will begin to happen. hell its already happened at one of the largest dz's in the world, sda. instead of sepperating the lz's they have partially banned hp turns. thats not what we want, is it folks? >
  11. sincle i dont know the eact wording i guess its hard to say if im for or against. i feel its a slippery slope when you start having governing body's make rules when people are scared. people tend to sign there freedoms and rights away when there is fear invloved. if these are suggestions not mandates then yes i would be for it if it allows dzo's to decide whats best for their dz. i am all for not allowing 270 and greater in the main lz. ive always felt that way, but im opposed to banning any hpl in standard traffic all together. (180's or less) >
  12. i agree but we dont fly directly at others for very long. i enter the pattern at 90 degrees then turn to 180 for just long enough to allow my canopy to unload, (a few seconds) before i began my 180. i hope that makes sense its hard to explain in writing. plus we are usually much higher than a sp on final so it not like im on level coming at others. its no different than sp flying base leg down the middle then doing a conventional 180 to final, other than i will over trake the lower sp so i must be sure i have a clear lane.i have aborted a bunch if i dont have a clear lane because of canopys beneath. guys im not saying this is flawless but neither is 23 sp trying to land near the packing tents. unless everyone does solo's on their own pass there is risk involved. not much if everyone is heads up though. so im not saying 180s in slz is a great thing but it can be done safley as ive stated 5 years not one close call. >
  13. i am a strong supporter of sepprate landing areas whenever possible. i do NOT support a bsr change that will ban swooping if the dz can not have sepperate areas. i feel 270's or greater have NO place in the standard landing pattern. i do feel 180's or less can be done safley without having to sepperate area's. thats why i dont support the bsr change because it doesnt allow this optiion to the dz's thatr can not support 2 laning areas. at my dz we have 3 seperate lz's. main lz, student lz, and hp lz. you are allowed to do 180 turns in the main landing area. we've never had even a close call in 5 years of this being implmented. so i truly beleive with education 180's can be done sfaley in standard traffic. im very open to dissenting opinions. >
  14. well spoken!!! its so good to hear a student that truly has appreciation for their instructor. thank you >
  15. raymond you dont know what the f... you are talking about! just because a skydiver knows how to fly their body doesnt mean they can get through to a student and teach. and why you feel its wrong to accept money to teach is beyond me! trust me most of us affI's and coaches do not teach for the money. we do it because we enjoy it and it helps subsidize this expensive sport. i give my students 100% in a positive and fun manner with great success, but it can be hard work with some students. why shouldnt i be paid the whopping 15 bucks!!! if it was about the money id be doing tandems or shooting tandem video, but that doesnt mean i want to spend my whole weekend instructing for free. im there to blow off a hard weeks work and have fun with my freinds. because 15$ helps me do that i instruct 1/2 the time im at the dz and fun jump the other half. being on a pro team dont mean shit to me as far as aff goes. i know many AMAZING instructors that are everyday joes. we derserve more credit and respect than your showing. >
  16. kurupee, quality,,,bhaaa!! you get what you pay for. theres a reason they are so cheap. ive seen 3 or 4 suits from them. i wasnt impressed. 2 started falling apart within 200 jumps. however if your low on cash and need a ff suit fast they are a good choice. i dont think they will last 1000+ jumps though. >
  17. i dont think the velo is a bad choice if your consintantly nailing 270's under the katana. i dont know your ability but on paper i doubt your done learning all that canopy has to offer you. the katana is a very hi-performance parachute. you really shouldnt be bored with only 200 jumps on it. >
  18. i agree, after reading bryan burkes post it really opened my eyes. i love swooping but i agree 270's dont belong in regular traffic. after all its my life that will end as well if i had a canopy collision. the part that interested me the most was when bryan stated, "guy's your just not that special". i feel as swoopers we tend to give ourselves more importance to the sport than we really are. the fact is folks we are the minoroty in the sport so we shouldnt act like big shots. i think swooping and non swoopers can land safley together if everyone follows guidlines. sepperate landing areas is safer for everyone. lets all try to play nicley and get along, ok. >
  19. bro thats way fucked up to say he got what he had coming. if you hnestly feel dying a horrible violent death is just deserves because he flipped someone attitude, i feel very sorry for you. not cool. not cool at all. >
  20. he's having a hard time making a point and apparently an even harder time being current. on a serious note, these changes must have an effect on the dz. if your banning hp landings im guessing you will see far less freeflying visitors. (rw folks please dont attack me) it just seems the ratio of swooping freeflyers is very high, vs. swooping rw flyers tends to be much lower. im not refering to sponsored and pro skydivers but regular joes like me. freeflying and swooping have a younger demographic than rw. so with that in mind... heres my chain of thought; with less freeflyers im guessing the average age of visitors will go up. now with less freeflying swoopers around, these dz's will actually appeal and attract even more rw jumpers than they do now. i think the face of sdaz will change from a healthy mix of disciplines and ages to a mostly rw non swooping crowd with a higher than current average age. because the vast majority of skydivers are non swooping bellyflyers i feel that restricting dz's buisness will not decline but stay the same and possibly increase. i know thats not what alot of us swoopers want to hear but i think its very likley to be the case. >
  21. thanks, thats a good point. maybe a moderator could move the poll to general discussions. ATTN MODERATORS; could you please move this post to general skydiving thanks >
  22. actually im not whining, im honestly curious as to the demographic change restrcited dz's are going to have. i have no negative feelings tword sdaz or others for their decisions. i agree with alot of their reasons, not all but some. so if you dont like the poll then dont reply, but if going to talk shit at least spell correctly. >
  23. hey all, i used to visit sdaz at least twice a winter since 2001. now i go to sd sandiego for my winter vacation's to jump. sdaz was one of my favorite places to visit so im very bummed i wont be going there anymore. im just wondering how many others wont be visiting dz's that have restrictions for swooping. p.s this poll is not meant to bash sdaz or any other dz. im truly interested in how dz's that have a large amount of visiting jumpers will be affected by these changes. >
  24. skydive oregon- max 180 in main area, no limit in the high performance side. must swoop over the water however. no inncidents in 5 years since inception of these rules. >
