Who is the "Warren Miller" of Skydiving?
livenletfly replied to JoeG's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
joe g, relative work also called RW, is mostly used to describe formation skydiving. it basicly means skydivers staying relative to one another on they're bellys and accomplishing a set goal. usualy turning points. VRW= verticle relative work, this referes to freeflying. in freeflying we dont usually use the term "turing points" but instead refer to +taking docks" which results in a point during competition or training jumps > -
HELL NO!!!! skydiving is my recreation as well. i should be able to do and fly what i want as long as im within my experience level. flying a slow ass canopy on my fun jumps for the sake of students is absurd! >

i love her smile while sdiving. she very beautiful and graceful. >

Best Skydiving DVDs/Vids of all time?
livenletfly replied to Silverlining's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
best vids ive seen and own. chronicles 2, out of the blue, good stuff, swoop 2 &3, swedish freefly 2, soul flyers. heres where my mouth gets me in trouble but fuck it, the worst sd video's ive seen are the older norman kent stuff. (yes he is an amazing photographer and i have the utmost respect for him) but the cheese factor is through the roof. its like watching teletubbies on ice combined with 80's porn music. > -
what do you want to learn, headup or down flying. theres not to many world class flyers without going to northern cali. davis and lodi have people like chris salcone and team guano. kapow has good fflyers but their not interested in ff coaching too much. i went up there once for some coaching, and got the run around. ill pm you more info jeff >

Canopy Swooping - Sport or Stupidity?
livenletfly replied to paulledden's topic in Safety and Training
luckily these decision will never be up to close minded individuals. Rest of post deleted. Let's leave the chest-thumping for Bonfire and leave this forum for discussion of safety and training issues. > -
nothing's been said that you shouldnt already know being a licensed s/d. we were all freaked out (me especialy) as low timers. it will go away as you progress and staying current is the best thing you can do. however, always know the risk your taking jumping from aircraft. theres 1000 ways to be kiled or kill yourself and others. from walking across the runway loading till your in the packing tent, your at risk. the key is not to dwell on it! too many jumper jump with ignorance instead of courage and knowlege. blue ones keep jumping as far as jumping dead guy gear. im all for it. i hope somone will keep my gear current if i died. however if i didnt know the person it would probably bother me. knowing them would be different for some reason. i dont know why. >

What did you give up for skydiving
livenletfly replied to grlsgotalot2lrn's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
good thread. the best thing ive given up is materialistic needs. skydiving taught me whats truly imortant in life!!! and its not driving an escalade with 20in dubs, tiny cellphones, and bling bling. even though 1/3 of my yearly income goes to skydiving, its the best money ive ever spent, and the only money that has bettered myself from the inside to the out. im a better person since i started jumpng. im currently getting my coach rating and hopefully aff this fall because i want to give back to a sport thats given me so much. it makes me wonder when i hear jumpers bitching about how much the've given up to skydive. do these people ever think about all they've gained? skydiving is different for each jumper. regardless of time in sport or jump #"s some get more out of our sport than others. it means more to some than others. its what makes us individuals among our common bond. in a nut shell, if your skydiving you best be loving it cuz there aint no other reason to do it. period!!! > -
the reason you cant find what your looking for is because it doesnt make sense. theres no market for a high performance snappy eliptical 7 cell that lands like an f-111 lightly loaded canopy. for one i agree with others that its impossible to have a steep groundhungry wing that can just "stop" and not convert that downward speed to forward speed aka glide. you for some reason disagree. whats most baffeling to me is what do you have against planing out gliding a bit and then a nice soft touchdown. why would you want all that performance up top but then want a canopy that basicly lands like shit to the rest of the skydiving world at the bottom. it doesnt make any sense to me. but hey what the hell do i know. i do know that you dont really understand modern ram air parachutes. otherwise you would see why you cant find what your looking for. the flight characteristics you desire would work against eachother if this canopy existed. you mention in your original post not wanting to sound negative. id say you sound more aggressive especialy tword swooping than negative. i am now curious to jump a diablo. reason beeing you feel this canopy is closest to what your describing. you have very low jump numbers for how long youve been in the sport, so keep that in mind when your buying and demo'ing new canopys. depending on w/l a nitro is pretty aggressive for someone avg 30 jumps a year. good luck finding a non "swoopy" new parachute. >

ill be there fri. and sun. to do hp all day. dusty (team evolution) will be staying with me from the 28th till the 4th of march. we're hoping to do some coaching swoops but im going to need at least one other jumper to make the 182 fly all day. can anyone commit? he's not jumping just doing ground coaching and video. i dont think sdo will even be open during the week so it may not be possible. but if we have enough swoopers to commit to be there all day maybe joe will let us fly on thurs march 3rd. as soon as i get another jumper ill ask joe and theresa. so get back to me asap if you or anyone can be there. lets get our swoops on!!!!!! >

BPA canopy progression system unveiled.
livenletfly replied to yoink's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
this is a step in the right direction. 3 cheers for all who put together this system. could someone explain what all these new letters stand for? im assuming ch= canopy handling, cp= canopy progression? ext.... cci? i dont want to assume id rather know. also as a side note. i do think 200 jumps is a bit high for a simple double front landing. anyone else feel the same? just a year ago a jumper with 200 jumps was considered a fully proficient skydiver worthy of a D license!!!! now its the min. requirment to do a simple front riser dive. hmmm. ironic, no? > -
new swoop pond at lake whales and colorado
livenletfly replied to livenletfly's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
does anyone have pics of the ponds vladi pesa and lyle press designed. i heard ones a diamond shape. i, as well as many other swoopers would love to see them. they're not on the website. so give us a sneak peek all you florida cats. > -
let me clarify; i dont feel this should be the only factor considered in determining "when to downsize" . what i liked most about the article is it put in ink a very real fact of hp landings that i believe needs more discussion. its a very important piece of the big picture. i doubt the author meant it to be anything more than that. >

close call, exit seperation issue.
livenletfly replied to livenletfly's topic in Safety and Training
no i was not chasing. as i stated i was parked falling straight down so she can tell what her movements were. thats what i meant by a human spaceball. she cant learn when shes falling true if im making any movements tword her. she would make a few attempts to drive tword me on her head then transistion to a sit and drive back to me transistion back to her head and repeat. my job on this skydive was to keep her facing north south, on a east west jumprun. as well as a point of reference so she can see if shes falling true, backsliding, or forward driving. thanks for the feed back but i think were on the same page. i just didnt give full details of our diveplan. with this dive plan theres no reason to get out last. and i should have known someone would turn this into an exit separation debate!!!! not saying you are gg. god that arguement is so old people!!!! let it go! > -
close call, exit seperation issue.
livenletfly replied to livenletfly's topic in Safety and Training
this occured sun at sd az. after a nice 2 way ff jump with my girlfreind . i was a human space ball so she could practice her head down and have a reference point. she back slid quite a bit off the line of flight so at break off i only tracked a few seconds, decelerated and pitched. as i always do after deployment while stopwing my slider i check for the following stick. to my suprise i see 2 jumpers in freefall directly above me 1000 approx. i immediatly grabbed a rear riser changing my direction popped the brakes and hoped like hell to out fly from under them. they wher breaking off when they passed by me. one missed me by 10 to 15 feet! the other by about 30-40 feet!! the closer of the 2 was just getting line strectch as he passed. whew!!! that was close o thought. supprisingly calm, i approached the jumpers and asked how much time did they leave us. and basicly why the fuck where they so close to me. not to mention why were they so close to eachother at pull time. i got some bullshit answers in a hard to understand accent about how they left us 10 seconds before exit. the ground speed that day was 50 knotts. so even if they did leave 10 seconds it wasnt enough. and i doubt they even left that. moral of this story is this folks. always check the airspace above once opened. look for the following group. had i not changed my direction immediatly to fly out from them i wouldnt be here right now. and please give proper sepperation even if the spot is getting long as it was this day. i was the second to last group. if you must pul;l alittle high but dont exit on top of others cuz you freaked or too lazy to land off. > -
Which is the best DZ you ever visited?
livenletfly replied to bluesky1977's topic in Events & Places to Jump
ive been to perris, elsinore, eloy, kapowsin, toledo and my home dz skydive oregonh. by far my favorite dz is my home. my home base. SKYDIVE OREGON !!!!!! its breath taking views of 5 10,000ft plus snow capped mountains, newest twin otters in the skydiving world and great people. 200 foot man made swoop pond is like a swimming pool. p.s. its also the safest dz ive jumped at. > -
sdctlc im confused as to why your cutaway main was in a 2 out bi plane. did the risers not release? thanks >

its nice to see your thinking. a thinking skydiver is always better than a robot skydiver. keep doing that, it will save your life. >

thats pretty scary, its amazing how many people will hurry and rush something as important as properly connecting your canopy.we all make stupid mistakes some get lucky and some die. your freind got lucky you spotted this error. they may want to consider a second pair of eyes when working on their gear. hopefuly this scared the shit out of him/her >
