  1. What? No option for Broken Bones but skipped the hospital?? I compression fractured a thoracic vertebra, but only went to the walk-in clinic 4 days later for an x-ray and more Vicadin. I'm an inch shorter now, but that's OK 6'2" is still tall enough. It was a downwind landing in a frozen, plowed field.
  2. Ewww raw fish is yukky. Subway for me today.
  3. I just put it in my cubbyhole... one wall of the hanger has individual shelves for us to use. No locks though, we all know each other.
  4. Well I'm not a small girl, but I have the floating problem on track dives because I am tall and skinny. I am just learning to keep up. One way I was successful was to wear my tight nylon RW suit, arch and put my arms completely behind me (palms on the bottom of my rig) and steer with my feet. The other way that was suggested by one of my coaches (a light girl) was to put my arms forward and out, then angle my body at 45 deg.
  5. Keep working on it! Depends on your physical build. I am one of those tall skinny guys that is built like a sailplane. I am attaching a map that has the (approximate) path of a track dive I did last weekend. I exited from a King Air over the numbers on the end of the runway on a 360 jump run. And yes, the satellite image is an old one; but at least the runway is there. I have averaged around the same fall rate as you, but I have also maintained a good 79-80 vertical fall rate through portions of a jump I clocked.
  6. Don't worry Viking, you are the only one with nice guy cooties... I've never smoked the wacky stuff or even a cigarette.
  7. Here are some online places to get the Supplex: http://www.beaconfabric.com/vindex.html?cat210.htm http://www.fabricwarehouse.com/outdoor.htm (Down toward the bottom) http://outdoorthreads.com/Fabrics.html#Nylon%20Supplex
  8. What makes that funny is... I was someone that WAS wrapping duct tape around my ankles!
  9. Ha ha ha Oh well... It was still an idea
  10. You could replace the shot filled tennis ball with them. It would be more of a challenge to match the fall rate of a flailing criminal. Plus you don't have to worry about catching it at the end.
  11. Nope, but it makes for some good backward motion. ...and I think its a she.
  12. New gear and a Segway for $5,000.00 - Wow !! I wish! But, I'll just save the Segway jump for the 2nd time I find $5000
  13. That will be 2nd on my list of things to do should I find $5000 on the sidewalk. Of course new gear and jump tickets comes first.
  14. No, but we might need to nail him to his Segway to keep him on it.
  15. It does wrap around the foot. BUT, booties would have helped because the loop around the foot was caused by the bridle snagging the back of the shoe. Eliminate the snag and eliminate the malfunction. With that said... do you really want to add that extra control surface to a students suit?
  16. Nice job with the PhotoShop! Martha would be so proud.
  17. I completely agree. I wanted all new stuff when I started, but with the help of the great people at my DZ, I found a good used rig/main/reserve that had lived its whole life in my area. My rigger and several people at the DZ were very familiar with the rig and its history. Besides, who wants to learn to pack a new canopy into a new rig. Trust me... that alone makes it worth buying a used rig!
  18. Your bridle always comes out that fast -- the second it catches air. That is why it is important to keep your legs and arms clear while deploying.
  19. You are right. I actually read the articles. The first time he pointed the (phone) the first officer shot him twice in the arm... thats why you see his left arm hang down. After he pointed the (phone) the second time the other officer sees the threat and they both start shooting. They fired 15 total shots, and hit him with 8. The DA has ruled it a justified homicide, and the police chief labeled it as suicide by cop.
  20. I LOVE NIGHT JUMPS!!!! But, when I asked the DZO when we could do more, she gave me the smiling FU My landing technique is not really affected by the dark, so I had a blast smoking in with no wind and slippery wet grass.
  21. Funny that, I had actually begun a savings account before I began jumping. I had 3 grand in there and I was going to invest it. ...THen came skydiving, and of course you know how I paid for AFF and my first rig. I learned the credit card lesson a while back. I only spend what I have in cash now. I guess I will be doing Tandems or Videos or something when I am 90. I will be too poor to retire
  22. Use the store locator on the top... http://www.joann.com/ And, all you guys that think buying stuff is better. A new jump suit only costs $50 if you can make it yourself. The cost of the sewing machine is paid for quickly. Oh, I forgot about that. That's another great idea Skymama.
