yeah but whipped cream just friggin stinks the next day, even if you throw the jumpsuit in the washing machine. I agree. If it gets too far up your nose to wash out, you have to smell it for almost a week!

Congrads. You got your pie at the DZ?? No fair! They waited to get me until we were eating dinner at Applebee's. They paid the waitress to do the job when she brought out my food.

Don't let anyone scare you about the night jumps. I just did mine this weekend too. And I wanted MORE. Its just a new twist to a great experience.

If you advance frame by frame, you can see that the bridle is not visible until the pilot is fully extracted. Her pant leg flaps when the pilot chute is half out. But, she brushes the pilot chute against her foot while it is still in her hand. It looks like the position of her feet and the luck of the wind may have caused this more than anything else.

Yeah I lived there for 2 years. But couldn't stand LIVING there. But, it is a great place to visit. I recommend Multinomah Falls. The kids might like OMSI http://www.omsi.edu/ Playing in the tide pools on the coast is always a blast! The water is cold, but the critters are fun.

I've had 4 high speed mals (had to chop two of them) and a broken back--All in my first 100 jumps! The family and the boss asked if I was done jumping after each one of my fun little experiences. I just smile and tell them that the jump just gets to be fun when things go wrong. They all think I'm crazy... Oh well!

Thanks!

I'll bet those two officers would have given almost anything to know that was just a phone.
-
Yeah, they canceled our night jumps tonight on account of the weather. So I was bored and needed something to get my blood pumping

Killing someone for brandishing a cell phone isn't a mistake? I conceded that in this case it may have been an honest mistake, but I certainly wouldn't go so far as to say that killing someone who's threatening to dial 1-800-CALL ATT is the correct course of action. You are taking things way out of context to try to prove a bad point. He was not threatening to dial ATT. He was threatening to kill the Police Officers with an object he intended them to see as a gun. Killing him was no mistake on the part of the officers. Passing off a cell phone as a gun was a HUGE mistake on his part.
-
What you intend to communicate is far less important to what is perceived. This person was hostile toward the officer, resisted the officers, and wanted them to perceive that he had a gun. He did a good job with the last one. It is not tragic just because he did not have a gun. It was stupid--a direct consequence of HIS own illegal, hostile, and threatening actions. If you are the aggressor pointing a gun at someone, whether you are willing or intend to kill, the threat is still there. One threat is greater, but any threat of death or great bodily injury is justification for a lethal force defense. Dude, are you forgetting cops are people? Yes they make mistakes. These officers in the video did not make a mistake. Playing Russian Roulette is not in the job description. They have the same right to defend their lives as you and I do. Now for the officers in your situation. hell yes they screwed up. I am sorry that you have come to generalize all cops on a few bad experiences.

Dave, Please read this. This is a tragic example of what can happen when an LEO does not open fire the instant a gun is pointed at him. http://www.odmp.org/officer.php?oid=16528 By intentionally pointing a gun (whether real or not) at someone, you are communicating your willingness to kill him/her.
-
Actually the hand you see is the bad guy's left hand. The object is in his right hand behind his body out of view of the closest LEO, and moving too fast for the other to see clearly. However in 4 seconds it is pointed directly at an LEO again. Do you expect cops to have magic powers of X-ray vision... or the ability to slow time?
-
Putting it down without using it. Blues, Dave Thank you for shooting yourself in the foot Dave. My point EXACTLY!!! HE NEVER PUT THE OBJECT DOWN. He was shot when he threatened the officers with it a second time.
-
If he was hesitant, he would have dropped it. But, he saved it for possible later use. So, YES he does need to be stopped. No, the Officers had 7 seconds. And in that 7 seconds, having plenty of time while sitting at my desk, I still could not say the object was not a gun. In fact the only reason I know it is a cell phone and not a gun is I was told it was a cell phone.
-
No but if you threaten the life of a Police officer, its legal for them to kill you. I DO have a problem with hesitation. This is NOT SEWING. Hesitation costs officers/soldiers their lives. I wish they could, but they can't, Cops will always save your rear whether you deserve it or not. Me Too. The cops did exercise the best judgment they could under the circumstances. And they are just fine. As for the young man that continuously exercised really really poor judgment... well he isn't. And what is it with you guys that are arguing that the cops are bad guys. Don't any of you understand what spell check is?
-
I disagree. Please enlighten me. What could the officers have done differently to solve the situation without further endangering their own lives? Let him keep walking? Wrong answer! A stipulation in the question was "without further endangering their own lives? (the LEO's)." This person has already turned and pointed an object at an officer that may be a gun. If you let him keep walking, he still has the object, is continuing to resist, and may turn and use it to kill an officer. Therefore, allowing the man to keep walking would further endanger the lives of the officer, or bystanders in the store that he is walking toward.

It looks, some of you that arguing the "you can wound them," point again. Please ready my earlier post. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=519955#519955 Movie myth... People move when they are shot. WRONG. Physics 101 tells us: For every action there is an opposite and EQUAL reaction. The bullet will move the target no more than it moves the shooter. (probably less because it goes through the target) And I will second the accuracy reasoning for continuing to shoot. Last time I shot clays, I hit 30 of 30, I can hit a milk jug at 100 yds with a smooth barrelled 12ga (no scope). But when it came time for a police reserve qualification with a revolver, I barely passed. I watched some people completely miss the target from 8 feet away. Pistols are not easy... ESPECIALLY in a life/death situation. As for training... I am sure the LEO's would LOVE more and better training. But who is going to pay for it? And that link for the officers that were killed is actually: http://www.odmp.org/

Actually, if it was a hillybilly that suddenly pointed what appeared to be a gun at the police, I am sure Mr/Mrs HillyBilly would be swiss cheese too. I don't think cops let white guys pull guns on them either. But the story of a white cop shooting a white person just does not sell as many newspapers or advertisements. You just don't hear about as many of those.

Naa, I'll pass. Any state that does not have a real winter is not worth living in in my humble opinion
-
Ha ha ha That was funny. I know a few dumb cops, but I don't know any dumb enough to try to "restrain" and uncontrolled person that might have a gun--Pants falling down or not.
-
So what you are saying is... Since these officers are in Louisiana, They are automatically guilty of racism and murder? How can you even accuse the officers of that without knowing them? Well gee, there goes innocent until proven guilty and due process right out the window!
-
Well, If anyone tries to use any of these items on me when I'm holding a gun, the first thing I am going to do is shoot the moron in the head. To use a less than lethal method against a person that is "presumably" willing to use a lethal method--Its just suicide for the officer. Police training and common sense tells you that if someone appears to have a gun, you better have a gun too. 8 Shots excessive? NO. You keep shooting until the person is unable to shoot back. --which means dead or unconscious on the ground. If the cop shoots 'em in the leg, the arms eyes, and fingers still work and are capable of returning fire and killing the officer. This isn't just bang your dead, bad guy lie down. This is real life and death. Police cannot read minds; giving a hostile person the benefit of the doubt can cost an officer his/her life. Whether or not they guy intended it to be a threat, the officer in the situation obviously perceived it as a lethal threat and took appropriate action based on his perception.
