fear is normal. althought the level changes with your time in this very sport, it will never be gone completly. the things you should aware of are stress & panic. if you are stressed, your reaction start to slow down and trouble begins. so my advice would be: know your fears, learn anything you are able to learn to prevent situations where your fears turn into stress and panic thus narrowing down your survicalskills. apart from that: enjoy your time in the sky

ok i'm no AFF-I, but i coach a lot. my take on this: there are plenty of other canopies out there suited way better for students. the place i jump at has pilots in various sizes (from 188 down to 150) for students and upjumpers wanting to get some sort of downsizing. rule is: you want to jump a smaller canopy - you show us you can do consistent stand up landings, then you get the smaller animals. as for giving a student a stiletto - no f**** way! btw: initially they start out with other canopies in the range of 240 - 230 The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

i know more than one place where it is the common practice of the TIs that their customers enter the plane with a loose harness. useless pointing it out, cause you are shure to get snarled at that this is none of your f**** business - even if you are a TI yourself i wonder why the majority of these TI's are vector & sigma rated The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

copy & paste form the base-forum: 1) We continue to fail to learn by the lessons of our predecessors. 2) Our enthusiasm far outstrips our skill level 3) These trends continue to accelerate 4) Very few will absorb 1-3 this time...as is the norm. Next verse, same as the first. We have forgotten the basics in favor of less appropriate, more ostensibly impressive skills. Two mantras that aid the quest for the perfect score. 1) Keep it Simple, Stupid! 2) Execute the basics flawlessly. The bit when you schlare the tarp is kind of critical. From the point at which your start to pack your canopy you are preparing for this moment. How strange that the instant foot and earth are reunited has become an arcane and forgotten detail in favor stunts such as not packing at all. I believe the reason for this is threefold...the new school is too impatient to pack and too scared of freefall and the old school is too worried about being seen to be left behind by the kids. There is nothing less BASE and more crap than jumps without purity (unpacked shit) and not being able to land on a dime no matter where it is placed. guess that sums it all up pretty well The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

Observers... next to the door / seatbelt?
feuergnom replied to fcajump's topic in Safety and Training
when i first heard such a story i wouldn't believe it, but since three people from that one load where the following thing happend told it to me, i will share it: so there is this guy wanting to go on a observer ride. guys at the dz give him a thourough briefing about the do's & dont's and strap him into a student rig, get him on the plane & fix him with a seat belt. ride to alti - uneventfull. on jumprun everybody leaves the plane - including the observer as the last one groundcrw is the first to notice cause theres someone hanging on his reserve in 12 grand so what happend was: as everybody was in the ususal hurry to exit the guy remebered what he was told during his briefing: "when everybody leaves the plane in a rush there is an emergency and you have to leave the plane and go straight for your reserve" what is what he did. since he didn't know what to do afterwards he went for miles before he landed his reserve unscathed. scared the bejeesus out of everyone. since then passengers are seated in the front of the plane next to the pilot and are not fitted with student rigs anymore The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666 -
so this thread is up for something like two days now and i'm starting to wonder about one thing: the last thread where a "tandem-stunt" (the one about the tandem-hybrid, you know, too lazy to do a search and make it clicky) was discussed, almost everybody was bitchin about how unsafe that was. i quite don't understand why the same concerns aren't worded in this one The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

Any reason to not have mostly black canopy?
feuergnom replied to doorgirl's topic in Gear and Rigging
my nitro 135 is black with orange checker-boxes for the middle cells ans stabilizers - i like it and it is clarly visible from ground and sky as for packing volume: white fabric of the same weight packs a tidbit smaller than black (or any other color) fabric as for longevity: white canopyfabric definitely lasts longer than neon-colores ones The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666 -

Question to Skydivers from EU Member Countries
feuergnom replied to michal.k's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
austria: you have to have a license that permits you to jump unsupervised in your country - that would be similar to the american a-license. in austria you get your license with 28 jumps, it doesn't expire, to reamin current you have to have 20 jumps in the last two years from wich 10 have to be made in the last 12 months (so much for the rules) so if you have a license issued by your organisation that allows you to jump, you should be fine here. don't forget your 3rd-party insurance-card (people will ask you for a current insurance!) and your pack-card for your reserve and your log-book, for ,ost dz's will also have a look into that one blues- feuergnom edit: as for our local organisation aeroclub.at then click on "fallschirmspringen" The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666 -
