sometimes i find myself sitting in the plane and asking myself wtf i am doing in this place with my heart trying to take a leap out of my throat. once the door is open and i climb outside, its all gone basically there are three points, when skydivers get stressed: 1) before exit 2) on pull time 3) on landing approach these stress levels have been measured using medical equipment. the results: all stress levels decrease with experience with point 2 still staying significantly higher so basically nerves will never go away completly, you just learn to deal with them. Notice to Americans - This Energy Crisis is Worldwide
feuergnom replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
as long as we continue to waste precious fossile fuels for private transportation and producing electricity (and adding carbondioxide to our atmospsphere with uncertain outcome) instead of investing in renewable ressources (which also holds another can of questionable worms) or solar power in our countries, there is no way to tell upcoming nations how to stop wasting energy. my personal 0,2: it is not a matter if but when the the really big crisis will hit our societies which are so dependet on the global transportation of goods, which is totally dependent on the supply with fossil fuels... apart from medication: see a physio-therapist, explain what you are doing and get some special exercises/training on how to use your arms in a slightly different way. pulling toggles in a different angles can change things dramatically. also cross-check if your tendinitis isn't triggered from your neck (yes, this can be a cause too). last shot: consult a osteopath, works like magic most of the time The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

converting from manufacturer rated tandem master to uspa rated tandem instructor doesn't change attitudes. if you've considered yourself a meathauler for the last gazillion jumps you wouldn't want to see them suddenly as students, would you? end the skydive and pull (assuming that you've got a drogue over your head already) and for the n-th discussion wether you allow a student to fly and land the canopy with you - well i guess that totally depends who's rating you've got. from what i have experienced ist is mostly vector-trained pilots who are are afraid of letting their passengers be more than another peace of live cargo to be delivered. the difference is what you have been taught to be normal The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

after some of us said yes, you could apply for a fuddy-duddy number - so that would make you fuddy-duddy 1 The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

when i'm not doing tandem i work with most of the students on our dropzone. some of the get the concept of safety very easy, some of them will never get it. no matter of who give's the the talk or what is the story being told. some keep this attitude as long as they jump (or survive). as for the original question: once off student status and proud license-holder everybody (well almost everybody) is all too eager to become one of the cool-mofo-badass-crowd calling themselves "freeflyerz" instead of honing some of the basic survival skills learned in basic-rw like maintaining levels, slots & proper separation. unfortunately it is far cooler to participate in a zoo-dive of "freeflyerz" where everbody just manages not to get killed without even knowing how thin the line really is *guess i'm really getting old and grumpy* /rantover/ The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

ok - i'll bite again: most of the time students see themselves as bullet-proof and invincible. notbecause they are ignorant but because they simply lack the knowledge of what can happen. just remember what your attitude was then and how it has changed in say the last two years. mine has defintely changed dramatically after i realised how many simple rules are broken or ignored on a regular basis - some with dramatic results edit for making more sense in the first sentence The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

these random-fliers tend to weed themselves out anyway, don't they? and for any idiot posting his "cool freefly experiences" aka near death experiences on you-idiot-tube there's a few dozen going WOW! some simple tricks to make snotslipery material pack easier 1) once you've sorted all the lines and took up the the rear of the canopy to form the cocoon: get out as much of the air before placing the canopy on the ground. do so by taking the canopy as far up as possible and work the air upwards 2) place canopy on ground - lie down on it and work on the material on the upper half. once finished: make only one s-fold with the upper half and put this one in the bag that means you have to get only half of the canopy in the bag then fold the lower half in the bag an close it. trick two is described with pics in many manuals as a different way to pack if that still doesn't work: keep on practicing The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

NEAR MISS COLLISION DURING CANOPY DEPLOYMENT
feuergnom replied to GLIDEANGLE's topic in Safety and Training
reminds me of an experience with a close call i had some four years ago. in that very thread tonto said something, that proved to be very valuable for me ever since: "Remember, experience is what you get when you don't get what you want" so i guess you all learned a lesson, you'll never forget. Jumping off the roof of a skyvan
feuergnom replied to kevinsa's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
no, that doesn't make it ok - but you've always got the choice: you like it - you jump there. You don't like it - go some place else. Usually i jump somewhere else The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666 -
