Help Wanted Ads: "Unemployed People Not Considered".
muff528 replied to Andy9o8's topic in Speakers Corner
So.... an employed person is hired by the company that hires only currently employed people. Wouldn't that likely open a position at the company that just lost an employee? Also, that practice may limit that company's access to talent which may, in the long run, give an edge to a competitor that does not use those restrictive hiring preferences. I say let the companies make their own policies and then live or die by them. This also goes for "discriminatory" hiring practices in the private sector. These policies will eventually lead to the demise of those companies, thereby allowing businesses that do not follow these practices to prevail in the marketplace. I think the climate is becoming right to allow companies to openly discriminate as they wish and then suffer any consequences meted out by their customers. I think the general population is becoming more aware of who the people are that they are dealing with and are becoming less and less tolerant of companies that are discriminatory or are otherwise acting irresponsibly. .......Just sayin' -

Well....I've never had a problem going the full 8 seconds. -
Him: Hey Sweetie, How YOU doin'? I'm a skydiver! Her: So!... You pretty much stay broke, huh?

Thanks for your kind offer, but I've got the shipping address covered... If you really want to help you could provide your billing address.

Or hat, or anything with a parachute or airplane on it, or old airplane parts. As a matter of fact...if I have ever pissed you off and you really want to make my life miserable all you have to do is send one of these to my house! I'll probably get beaten like a yard dog for that. Just added that site to my favorites. What a great idea!

Nice, subtle reference. Someone else has to have gotten it too. Yeah, but didn't that DZ rise from actual, rather than metaphorical, ashes? Exactly. Hence, Phoenix Wow! I just realized it's been 15 years since Phoenix closed at Z-hills! (I think Betty did carry the name to Lk Wales) So, although there are a lot people on here that got the reference, there are way more that haven't been around long enough to remember the place. I started jumping there when there were 2 dropzones there. The fire happened before my time. I started jumping in April 92.

--> corrected spelling Point Break Nah. Bill Paxton as Fred Haise in Apollo 13, but according to the Jim & Marilyn Lovell DVD commentary track, the real Haise said no such thing. mh . I don't know about Apollo 13 (I don't remember it, but it may well be there) but it was definitely in Point Break. The stakeout scene where Gary Busey misses the gang going into the bank that then turns into the long ass foot chase. From googled sources: Apollo 13: ".....Rhinoceros." Point Break: ".....Rhino."

[reply.... We could try obscure song lyrics next. That may be harder to do a google search on. I dunno, I've looked up lyrics to some pretty off-the-wall songs when I try to learn them (I play guitar - mostly traditional, folk, bluegrass). Never failed to find them.

Let's see you old geezers get this one without google.

[reply scratch thru the quote with the mouse + copy + paste into google = 10 Yes, you could do that but anybody could do that. It kinda takes the fun out of it. Try to do it from memory. You are right. I'll stop doing that because no one else is doing it.

Well, looks like the saw bound up. Now they got the saw free but I think the "blade" is stuck in the slot. I wonder if there was something preventing them frome first cutting the excess riser above the crimp eliminating all that collapsed pipe from the equation. Then make the square cut above the flange. Might have reduced the possibility of the blade being "clamped" by the slot closing up on it. I wondered that too...why leave 30 feet or more of side presure to lay on it,(about 1000 pound probably) "Unless" they start the cut directly behind that presure, (another BUT) that could cause the metal to start ripping before it is cut off, and distroy the integrity of the mouth... I am sure greater minds than mine are on this project....BUT, sometimes I wonder! Check out that "flickr" link that Jim provided above. That Horizon37 fellow sounds like he knows what he's talking about and he's ripping them a new one. But who knows

Looks like a strong current is keeping the cloud blown away for good viewing. I've been reading that other link you gave. pretty interesting.

Somewhere I still have one of those old Caledonia Graphics Tshirts -- "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times". It really was!

Yep, looks like oil coming out of the slot. Now I think the bolt heads may have been too low/short to have been in the way of the cutter. I'm sure they would have taken all that into consideration.... and probably even made a mock-up before deployment. This is just incredible being done remotely a mile down!
-
Yes... that's pretty clear how it works, but earlier when nothing was really happening the camera moved up and looked down at the wire (just before the camera moved around to the other side and then back). That view appeared to show that part of the saw appeared to be impeded by what I thought was a bolt head on the flange. When the saw started cutting it looked like it was cutting this piece.
-
I'm not completely sure about what I'm looking at, but it looks like the cutting tool device is "hung up" on one of the flange bolts and the hydraulic cylinders can't draw the cutter to the pipe. So they're cutting the bolt head off. ?? Idunno
