or ..... It's OK, Honey. I'll just attach this note to the motorcycle with my name, address, phone number and insurance information. or ... Dam! I just accidentally "tapped" the one on the end and they all went down like dominoes!
  2. Isn't "quantitative easing" a little like putting a dead, hot frog into some boiling water and then letting it cool slowly until he comes back to life? He won't even know it's happening.
  3. I've seen them all ....multiple times. My kid grew up with 'arry Pawt-ter. I'm required by law to purchase the movies, books, crappaphernalia, etc. (Not so much for the last 2 or 3 episodes but I do still have to get the movies.)
  4. What a sexist thing to say - what if the invaders are all females on PMS? Then we're all screwed. Don't think so! Why can you counter PMS? Oh! You mean..... never mind.

  6. Yes! It is a big deal! Congratulations, and have fun!
  7. It seems that being King just ain't what it used to be.
  8. She would certainly tittivate your money and postage stamps!
  9. Huh? I think he meant, "Does his lawyer think our country has gotten 'this liberal'?" with "liberal" being used as a generic pejorative. I interpreted it as "Is his lawyer thinking our country has gotten 'This Liberal'?" .... but what I think he meant was "WTF?"
  10. ............right up to the point where the conflict has existential consequences ....then all bets are off. You can remain righteous, moral and civil and die or you can do whatever it takes to continue to exist, personally or as a people. I would expect any group (except one led by that crackpot Gandhi ) to resist extermination. (just taking a concept to the extreme. I'm not suggesting that we are anywhere near that end ....yet. But we, the "free world", seem to be doing everything we can to get there). I agree with you. I think that the western world is schizophrenic. We have a belief system and a standard of life that we want everyone else to have - but it must not be at our expense. Everyone wants people in China to not work in sweat shops until it means that there TV set or Computer costs 5 times the current amount. I have no problem in the west going to war to defend ourselves but we can't use the excuse that we are trying to impose freedom. Right. Freedom cannot be imposed anyway. But it is, in some ways, our obligation to aid (liberate) those who seek freedom. On the other hand, "peace" must be imposed. I am all for peace for everyone but some may not like or agree with my terms.
  11. Dagnabbit!! Now I have to go out and rent this movie ...again!
  12. Hope the little guy recovers OK.
  13. Yeah! I like that analogy. But it's too late to point the nose down. Time to punch out ...I'm just not sure how that can be done just now! (politically and economically speaking)

  15. I found an interesting (to me) website here about the food drops over Holland. My dad's unit (452nd BG) is not mentioned but there is a sepia photo of a 452nd B-17 at the top of the site (square L designation on the tail) (actually that's a 390th BG, square J, a/c with photo reversed). Two of his "Chowhound" flights were over occupied Holland. Dad said they were supposed to drop over an airfield or other designated area but some of the bombers feigned "problems" with the bomb bay and unloaded over the countryside hoping it would be found by the citizens. The fear was that the occupiers would confiscate the food. The 3rd one was over liberated Amsterdam. They did some sightseeing over the city and surrounding area. I recently heard from a relative of the tailgunner who told him that it was quite a ride at the tailgunner's station, weaving in and out of the smokestacks and steeples during that flight. Dad also participated in this mission and witnessed two of the rammings. Their Group received the Distinguished Unit Citation for this.
  16. Night jumps are usually, but not necessarily, during the full moon (Dec 21 this year).
  17. The thing was moving really, really slowly. Just like you'd expect a sub sonic airplane at 35k to look like as it was still far away. The reflections from the sun mentioned earlier make perfect sense, can't understand why they make you laugh. Once again, then why has it not been discovered what aircraft? It already has been (an america west or UPS flight): http://www.foxnews.com/scitech/2010/11/10/blogger-solved-california-missile-mystery/ This story also shows another pic from a day after the non-incident, but with a less dramatic contrail. Contrails can sometimes persist for a long time, sometimes they dissipate rather quickly depending on the conditions at the time. The timing and flight path all make sense to match it up to the contrail observed. It also matches the fact that it was a contrail being made slowly, just like a normal airplane at high altitude. Hah! ...a likely story! So ...how do explain the trilithium resin scattered all over California?

The reflections from the sun mentioned earlier make perfect sense, can't understand why they make you laugh. ...Or it could be an even slower aircraft flying at a much lower altitude ....like maybe a Beech-18 approaching the DZ on jump run burning a little oil.
  19. Welcome! Try this one: "Parachuting, The Skydiver's Handbook" by Dan Poynter and Mike Turoff. Available through your local DZ or here.
  20. I think Sebastian has a younger crowd. There's not really a hidden message or agenda there. You don't need an agenda to have an opinion. But I do agree that there really are a bunch of old coots over at Zhills.... not everyone of course, but they know who they are.
  21. So....what are you sayin'? (I know we've never met but I know you do get over to Zhills occasionally and you must be basing that opinion on something.)
  22. I knew one relative, my grandmother's uncle, who served in WW1. He died a few years ago at 101 and is buried at Florida National Cemetary in Bushnell.
  23. Thanks Jerry, All just kids! They called the tailgunner on his crew the "old man" at 23 because he was married and had a child. Their togglier(bombardier) was only 17 and he had already served with a previous crew that had been shot down! Nothing but the deepest respect for all you guys and girls.
