great point! again, teaching them how to do well in the face of difficulty is a "life" lesson. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

oh, it was take seriously. there was just no real way to "cheat." assignments were given at team assignements, and then test were given as test, in class. cheating on assignments was no help to your eventual failure of the class, and program. i agree with this structure becuase when you are managing a project, if you dont know some technical issue, you most likely sub it out, hire assistance, or some other "team" interaction. whens the last time your boss through done a "test" on your desk, turn off your phone, and told you you had 45 minutes? all i know is when i make a change to a structure, damn sure i get the ok and input from my engr. concrete sub, truss manufacture, plumber, electrician, HVAC sub, and any other trades involved. the sooner people learn about "how and where" to acquire vital data, the better. hell, the last "test" i took with no assistance was the general contractors test...and that was a joke. the real "test" is how to get things done, correctly and in a timely manner. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

hand it back to them and say "take this home again! in the working world you would be fired." i earned my degree in construction management, and if you even tried something like this...my instructors would just laugh, literally. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

Whats the difference between a golfer and a skydiver? A golfer goes "WACK!".. "Damm!" A skydiver goes "DAMM!" ...."wack!" ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

HELP! Speech class persuasive topic......?
squirrel replied to skyflyingbecca's topic in The Bonfire
well, you could open your speech about skydiving being safe by using this tidbit of info i used in a video opening..."Between 1983 and 1986, it is estimated that there were 75 deaths per year related to lawn tractors, riding lawn mowers, and garden equipment." this is according to the consumer product safety comission, found it using a google search. compare this to an average of 26 deaths per year related to skydiving. what would you rather do on a sunday afternoon? ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him? -
its called the "V-boost" at 6000 rpms it opens a second jet that splits between carbs. being a shaft drive bike, and being built on a frame from one of thier smaller bikes, hang on as it stands up and trys to go right. oh yeah, and dont even try to corner this bike. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

well, thats great. and by the way, i cruise my XT at 65. and, the fontana track has grudge night drags...never really see many HDs there. and yeah, i ride fast on the track. check out fasttrackriders.com look, all a HD rider has to do is ackowledge another rider. hell, it was pretty funny when i cruised through sturgis on my VMAX during the HD meet. you wanna talk about people throwing shit... i loved it though. gotta go to work, no vacation for the self employed. forgot to mention...my group...Honda Rc51, Yamaha Vmax, old Kawy, 2 XLs, and yes, a HD. sorry, i dont ride alone. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

like i said..pink slips? dont really care if you wave or not...just makes me feel better when i pass you on the side of the road. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

does the truth hurt? look there is a reason HD went bankrupt. they are better now...but not better than everyone else. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

well, continue to spread the word about waving then. the old fart yesterday must have been 50 or so, guess old habits die hard. but then again if i was riding something that might suddenly crap out, i would hold on with two hands too! i am with dave, being on two wheels is being on two wheels. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

100% agree! i hate the posers. i STILLL ride my 83 XT 550 just about every day. one big thumping piston, kick start, very throaty. yeah, i never get waves from the HD riders. thats why i love rolling up next to them at a light on my VMAX and asking them to drag for pink slips(owners documentaion)...like we used to in the old days. still remember my brothers Yamaha RD 400 Daytona blowing away all the HDs...coarse thats when they spent more time on the side of the road. hell i was riding behind a harley yesterday on a twisty road, getting waves from all the bikes...the HD rider...nver waved back...f-ing loser. so i smoked him on my beater dual sport XT. HD riders, go home a polish your chrome. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

the straps were open all the way, hanging very loose. the reason this struck me so strongly was the recent tandem accident, slipping out of the "hole." could he have left the plane like this? well, i would guess that under a "normal" deloyment he would have just gotten a bruise, but what about and emgengy bail out situation? anyway, why even settle for bruises? and yes, i was simply trying to say that setting a good example is part of being an instructor. for example, my instructor told me of her base jumping adventures only AFTER i was off student status, and had a significant number of jumps, as in, when i was a bit more educated in the sport. all in all, what my point is, to mathebatically decrease your odds of injury, by following proper safety procedure, and setting a good example as an instructor. if you are an instructor that does not follow the guidelines of the safety manual, then you have no business instructing under that guideline's authority, as in certification. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

i posted this in the morning and just got home to check the feedback. at least i didnt get totally flamed for being a safety oriented person. i just think as a leader, people should lead right. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

Jumping this weekend, I observed an instructor giving a student a level 4 on AFF. They boared the plane and buckle in. Then, at about 8 K, the instructor stands up, and tightens down his leg straps. Not an additional check adjustment, this was an INITIAL adjustment, as in, he got on the plane WITHOUT FIRST adjusting his rig. As a student, I observed and followed just about everything my instructor did, and this is a bad example to show to a student, in my opinion. I feel that an overkill of safety examples should be demonstrated during instruction, then the student will have an excellent base to start from. Be a good roll model. Just my 2 cents. ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

heehee. i feel your pain. but all those other things...are just things. i sold a 1967 shelby GT500, yes, it was real...# 0194. anyway, doesnt it give you certain pleasure to say and "oh 4 jumps with buddies, about 48,000 ft total" as an answer to "what did you do this weekend?" instead of..."well, like, uh, i went to the mall, and watch some stupid ball game on TV." ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

i really dont think its expensive at all. ok, lets just say you do 200 jumps a year...200 X 21 = $4200. (once you have your rig) go try an maintain a jetski that just cost you 7000, or a harley...gotta always have more chrome, or worst yet golf...some green fees are in the hundreds. to me, its not any more expesive than any other hobby you are into...just more fun. its all about choices...i mean yeah, like everyone else i should be driving a brand new leased car, requiring full coverage insurance, but i choose a beater that always starts, low insurance, and no stupid 5000 dollar rims...figure it saves me hundreds a month, just enough to blow at the DZ. now, wheres my jacket...the car heater is broken and i gotta go to work... ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?

this entire thread is why i dont watch any sports anymore. havent since football (US), baseball, hocky, NBA, all went on strike. i honestly dont even know what season it is, (except that it is skydiving season all the time) i mean, these people are getting paid to PLAY. hell if i a couple of cheers from mom and dad when i was playing soccer, i would was over joyed. ALL fans need to strike, put them out of business, and start over... ________________________________ Where is Darwin when you need him?
