  1. WL of 1.4 on a Sabre2 with 100 jumps seems a bit aggressive. - Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  2. Maybe that was just his exit and she was being paranoid.
  3. It was not an attack on you or your practices but rather a heads up call for others who read these forums who might be tempted to make alterations to their recommended emergency procedures. The person who got lucky in the OP and had a successful Cypress fire is a testament to what can happen when the adrenalin gets pumping. Just because we have AAD’s does not mean they will work in every situation when burning through 750 feet and even the coolest of individuals can easily loose track of altitude in a high speed situation irregardless of experience level. - Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

    How many people

    Just everything, ya know?
  6. With solo freefall students I teach to look for traffic out the windows and when spotting at the door while keeping in mind that jump run is carrying us farther away but it pretty much ends there - I havent really taught to scann in freefall, should I? 7. I can imagine that even when spotting and looking for traffic, making a 360 sweep of the entire sky can be less than perfect sometimes? For instance, when I am with a student I do my best to make a good scan for traffic but dont actually lay down and look beneath the AC toward the horizon opposite the door. I have made it a habbit to look out the windows on the way to the door but hard to see well through the glare of the ultra clean windows (maybe not so clean). Any pointers Tom? Edit to add: In freefall I scan a lot for traffic below and hortizontally... - Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

Watch out Walt, might offend some snake lovers!
  9. But it's guys like you that defend freedom of speech. If someone dont like what is on NBC they can always watch CBS... Thanks for defending freedom! Keep up the good work... Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  10. Yikes man.... What was your plan? 4 attempts? 2? Try until the AAD fires? Did you have a plan? I dont want to ride you too much about that, but its the same issue that caused the AAD fire the OP videoed. Before AADs, quite a few people went in because of this. Have a plan. And it should be 2 attempts, and then reserve. My plan was that I was going to have to go to silver soon..but I found it. I was just reaching very lazily. My subsequent pulls (jumps thereafter) I did practice touches and realized it was mostly not practicing reaching. It worked out though. Everybody's PLAN is to not die, as was the person that had the Cypress fire in the posted video. Perhaps what is trying to be brought to the surface of our collective understanding is to not make changes the trained response from 2 tries to additional attempts while descending at a high rate of speed. It worked for you this time, next time if you continue to make alterations to your EP’s during a high speed situation you may not be as fortunate. Of course, I could be wrong… - Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
  11. Well then, lets talk about it - In the first video I am wondering why deployment did not happen sooner. First thing that comes to mind is the jumper did not see the plane. I have been in a similar situation but dumped out of it with much more vertical seperation. As I tracked and scanned the airplane below me stuck out like a sore thumb. Wondering if I just got lucky or if scanning (for other jumpers as well as anything else that might be in the air) while tracking helped. - Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

  14. Observations of a self-proclaimed dog expert: I am a total animal lover, not any kind I don’t like, well except the ones I want to turn into fish food… When once you have tasted blood, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned meatward, for there you have been, and there you will always want to be. Leonardo DaMinci For something to be “uncalled for” there must be an established idea as to what right and wrong is, which is a capability dog’s do not seem to have been born with. Dog’s are not capable of malice, acts of vengeance or fraud against corporations. They are just dog’s… We talking about roasting dear Auntie or the Pot Bellied Pig? If someone out there knows how to construct in impenetrable fence, we need one along the Mexican border. There might be a sweet government contract in it for ya! As has already been established, dog’s will be dogs and Mike is spot on about the speculation concerning the untrained dog’s inability to differentiate the children from the pot bellied pig. Children get killed by domestic animals all the time and as with all accidents there are usually red flags the led up to the accident. Seems to me the red flag has been unfurled. 4-Dogs of this type, untrained, in a pack and around children? This is a potential disaster waiting to happen. As a preemptive course of action the dogs need to be separated into new homes away from children or put down. I hate to say that because I love dogs immensely, I just love humans more… Be careful… - Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

  16. You wouldn’t have done what you did only if at some point in the past you done what you did that what you could figure out not to do what you did? I know exactly how you are feeling right now and it’s really not a reason to be hard on yourself. The best skydiving close calls/learning incidents are the ones where there are no serious injuries to fret over. Believe it or not, sometimes when a situation takes place some of the individuals involved will not claim responsibility for their part of mistakes made and therefore do not learn from them. You have humbly recognized it, claimed it and apparently are learning from it which in turn makes you a better person/skydiver as a direct result. What a great attitude – I applaud you. And what others said about taking it easy on yourself? Take their advice and don’t loose any more sleep. - Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…

  19. But safety is sooooo yesterday...
  20. Then I'll say it. If the plane is going down and the pilot has commanded everyone to remain calm and stay still then by all means - sit back and enjoy the ride to whatever end awaits. Trying to get out of the door may make the pilot's task at making the save impossible. Stratostar is totally correct about the seemingly incomprehensible forces that some situations could create on an airplane ride gone wild. The forces involved could be ultra incredible as could the rate of descent. You must be 18 to ride “The Human Centrifuge”. - Mykel AFF-I10 Skydiving Priorities: 1) Open Canopy. 2) Land Safely. 3) Don’t hurt anyone. 4) Repeat…
